According to Jae Isa,
Traffic psychology is the study of behavioral patterns and psychological theories regarding various issues of traffic in any shape or form. Its two main purposes are to decrease auto accidents and fatalities. The goal of our course is to modify our behavior in traffic.Presented beautifully and concisely, Thank you Jae. Traffic psychology as you can see from Jae's definition is extremely important to the driving community as a whole but understanding and utilizing traffic psychology on a daily basis should be the responsibility of every driver.
Taking responsibility for anything is probably one of the hardest things young people have to deal with as they grow up and remains a problem for most adults especially drivers. In order to become a good driver you must first take responsibility of your actions and emotions on the road. Most people are quick to blame their aggression on the road on the faults of other drivers, however when was the last time you thought of how other drivers you share the road with are feeling and thinking? As Sheldon Tawata says,
(traffic psychology allows me) to place my feet into the shoes of the other drivers and react accordingly. Just having respect to those around no matter how they act or react, leads me to a better driver and hopefully a better surrounding.Sheldon is saying that being able to observe the respective acts that occur on the road and trying to understand what other drivers are thinking, helps him to become a more "forgiving driver," leading to a more positive driving experience. Imagine if you could magically turn every driver in the world into a respecting, thoughtful, generous and loving person, freed from hateful thoughts and actions. If this was possible think of the dramatic change our highways would undergo, no more evil tailgaters, and other aggressive drivers...the roads would be safe to drive on without cares or worries. Impossible you might say, but this picture could quite possibly become a reality if every one could be like Jae and simply learn to respect other drivers around them.
As you know the path to peace, harmony and salvation is not an easy road but traffic psychology can lead one to this kind of nirvana on the highway. Listen to Letitia Luan for as she says...
traffic psychology helps us to realize our actions and in essence, our driving personalities. After we are able to realize them, we can start work on trying to understand them.Realizing and understanding are two very different things. Only after understanding takes place, we can work on change and our reasons for it. Why not make a change and help to change our highways for the better? If you drive let traffic psychology be your guide you will be well on your way to driving nirvana reaching perfection and oneness with the road and those you share it with, and that is my definition of traffic psychology.
