Route to Soliman Valdez's Week 13 Report
During this week's search I decided to try the homepage of Kevina in hopes that I would find something that would leave me with a lasting impression (being that this is our last week report, FINALLY!). Under the heading "Real World Driving Tips" I found just that at the very beginning under the sub-heading "speed." "Do not drive the speed limit if the rest of the traffic is not moving at that speed." In my opinion this is not a very wise thing to preach. I can understand that one does not wish to obstruct the flow of the others around them, however, one also has the right to travel at the posted speed limit if he/she wishes to do so. Is that against the law? Ha! I don't think so.
Another interesting thing to note is the recent repeal of the National Speed limit which has held at 55mph for the past 14 years. I cannot believe that some states would allow for an unlimited speed in certain rural areas. One example of this is in Montana where there are places that you can drive where there are no longer any posted speed limits. I wonder what the Montana Highway Patrol does now a days that they don't have to radar any potential speeders.
In terms of traffic psychology, I don't think that encouraging one to go as fast as one feels is "safe" to drive is a smart thing to do. True that these rural areas are clear of real dangers, however, a person can become well over-confident in their own abilities when driving at such high speeds and may act "stupid" when not in these designated areas.
