I. Passenger Terrorism
A. Human Rights Violation
- Accepted Norm that Passengers
are not to make comments or complaints, about how driving bothers, upsets, or
scares them.
B. The car is a convenient Prison
- Drivers control what passengers
can do (Eat, drink, bathroom breaks, etc)
- Why do they do it? Driving economy to make a few miles.
C. My Opinion
II. Driving Miss Daisy
A. Passengers
also have a reputation of bothering drivers.
Ex: Backseat Drivers (They feel
they need to be in control of the vehicle so they control the driver) Complain
when to switch lanes, when to speed up, when to slow down, etc.
B. Passengers are out of line when they interfere
with the operation of the vehicle, the driver has to be in charge.
Ex. “I can’t believe your driving
the speed limit! Everyone’s going faster 65! You’re the only one going 55! Geez hurry up! Drive faster!”
C. Instead
of arguing, help them focus their attention on a different topic activity.
Ex: Saying “I will not drive fast
with other people in the car. I’m committed to obeying traffic laws even though
it means getting grief from my friends.” “ If I’m
driving so slow then why is everyone behind me”
D. My
Opinion
III. Partnership
Driving Exercise
A.
Purpose is to Develop an Objective view of yourself as a driver.
B.
2 Roles Driver and the
Driving partner (passenger), Driving partner functions as a human mirror
reflecting what your driving looks like to others. 2 day exercise.
C.
Avoid criticizing, be
objective start with yourself in each comment.
Ex: “I
feel anxious about how fast we’re going”
D. My Opinion
