I. The Gender Effect
A. Men report more in experiencing rage, impatience, danger, violence, and competition than women.
B. Women engage in more non-fatal accidents than men.
C. Men may be just reporting their feelings more than women
D. expressions of anger are a direct reflection of the cultures boundaries
II. Driving Impaired
A. Physical impairing factors
-Alcohol
-Illegal drugs
-Over-the-Counter drugs
-Prescription Medication
-fatigue (driving while drowsy
-Incapacity due to disability, pain, aging, or illness
B. Emotional impairment factors
-anger or rage
-anxiety, fear, or panic
-depressions
-speed addictions
-habitual disrespect for law
C. Driving impaired is not limited to only driving under outside chemical influences. Responsibility needs to be taken in all aspects
III. Emotional self-control behind the wheel
A. Self-appraisal
-how one monitors and expresses emotion (verbally, silence, gestures, and tone)
B. Self Regulation
-being able to regulate the intensity and expression of ones emotions
C. mental control techniques
1. Postponing the immediate satisfaction you intensely desire
2. Avoiding savoring the victory and the pleasurable anticipation of punishing and taking revenge
3. Redirecting negative scenarios of justifications that give you permission to engage in hostile acts
