I.                    Road Rage: Truth or False?

a.       Definition: Felonious or criminal acts of violence by one driver against the other.

                                                               i.      Vs. aggressive driving

                                                             ii.      Media labeling

b.      Opinion: I believe that although the media will make up word and coin certain phrases to improve their story, this is a case where I think they choose a good term. It sounds more violent and stronger than aggressive driving. This helps increase audience reaction.

c.       Example: Story of killing woman’s dog for cutting him off on the freeway.

II.                 Rage World Wide

a.       Road Rage doesn’t just lie in American and Westernized countries

b.      Opinion: I got the opportunity to tour twelve different countries last semester and I felt that road rage was very apparent. It’s possible, maybe even more prevalent when traffic laws are not strongly enforced.

c.       Example: Riding in a tuk tuk in Vietnam vs. feeling very safe riding on the Minneapolis freeway in a blizzard.

III.               Why so much rage?

a.       Rage has been steadily increasing, why?

                                                               i.      Amount of traffic

1.      Population

2.      People in the work force

ii.      “Ritual opposition in their struggle for status”

b.      Opinion: Rage is not declining and until other faster modes of transportation re invented I do not think it will.

                                                               i.      Individualist society

ii.      Constant rush + busy streets = busy minds

c.       Example: If running late to work/school everyone seems else seems to be on time or early. The rage that this causes increases yet the speed you will arrive still remains the same.
