I. Truck drivers
1. Most injuries and illnesses
a. steady increase, especially for females
i. 17.6%
2. Stress factors for both genders
a. irregular hours
b. long hours
c. dangerous conditions
d. not enough exercise
i. 91 percentile based on Global Stress Index
3. Stress factors for women
a. discrimination
b. limited job opportunities
c. home and work demands

II. Female truck drivers
1. Typically work harder
a. compensate for discrimination
2. Typically miss home and feel lonely
a. away more than 15 days a month
b. 92% away more than 21 days a month!!
3. Have control over scheduling, no control over delivery
a. no real data about how women feel about job control

III. Female truckers and stress
1. No real “health” problems identified by questionnaire
2. Except: muscle strains, arms, back, stomach, bladder, hearing, digestion, menstruation, muscle spasms, kidney stones and vision issues, whew!!
a. possible related to stress???
3. Women do show improvement when paired with another driver or person
a. Especially family or other women
b. Shows trends for female personality??
