Section A
Introduction
Hello everybody. My name is Robert Lee and I’m in Dr. James’ class, Driving Psychology. I am honored to be apart of his 22nd generation class. I have to admit to everyone that this class is not easy. I came into this class thinking that it was going to be an “easy A” class, “BOY WAS I WRONG!” The first week of class Dr. James explained that all you had to do for the assignments was read the “simple but detailed” instructions. I agree that the instructions were detailed, but it surely was not simple. These instructions are so detailed that I had to read them over and over again, just to understand the first step. If you’re having a hard time with this class don’t be discouraged, because many generations had troubles that we are going through right now.
(i) Jacquelyn underestimated the class and she felt that this class was going to be easy. She was positive in the beginning and then concluded that
(ii) Jacquelyn thought that these assignments were tedious and dumb.
(iii) Jacquelyn talked about reading the directions, then re-reading them, something that I went through. She talked about slowing down and reading the instructions slowly.
(iv) Jacquelyn concluded that…
a.
Instructions are VERY
IMPORTANT...READ THEM ALL VERY CLOSELY
b. Being creative is a good thing, but don't clutter your page too much, it
takes away from the "main point" and can clutter navigation
c.
Don't be afraid to ask for
help! If you can not get any from your instructor, ask a classmate.
d.
Have fun with the class
assignments. Don't look at them like a chore...think of them as greater
learning experiences for life.
(v) Jacquelyn’s insights showed me that I need to read slower and comprehend what I’m reading. She also talks about asking for help, which I did.
(i) After reading the second sentence on her page it seemed to me that Hae Lin wasn’t very confident in her page. She wanted to excuse herself that she was a computer novice.
(ii) As you read on she talks about how pleased she is with herself that she accomplished making her own webpage.
(iii) On her first task she made a mistake and felt that Dr. James was a cold-hearted person, but later on understood that Dr. James was trying to teach her to recognize and analyze information behavior. She concluded that these tasks were worthwhile and she didn’t mind them at all. She was a little discouraged at first, but quickly got over it.
(iv) Hae Lin talks about how she was impatient, and I found that key to perform these tasks, you must be patient.
(v) Hae Lin taught me that with patience it will come.
(i) Shane felt very good about this class, because he felt that he had accomplished and learned so much in such little time.
(ii) Shane thought that time was an important issue on how to succeed in this class.
(iii) Shane put over a hundred hours into these projects making it sound discouraging for me.
(iv) Shane concluded that you have to open-minded and discard all resistance to learning to become aware of it. He also concluded that you need to make time to be successful.
(v) I learned from Shane that I should put time into doing the tasks. I also learned that I shouldn’t be discouraged, because he went from knowing practically nothing to becoming a pro.
(i) Carol seemed as though she was overwhelmed. She took a class with Dr. James before, but she still found difficulty with the class. Her biggest problem was that her CSS account wasn’t working.
(ii) Carol thought that the class would be less of a burden than the previous time she took it, but she was wrong. She found it to be just as difficult.
(iii) Carol ran into many problems and found that the best solution was to ask others for help (Shane Cobb-Adams).
(iv) Carol concluded that if it wasn’t for help from Shane she wouldn’t have done as well as she liked. She also talks about how not procrastinate just because the CSS account (technical problems) doesn’t work.
(v) I’ve learned from Carol that if you need help don’t be afraid and ask for it. I also learned that I shouldn’t procrastinate, even if it’s not your fault.

Abstract from: British
Journal of Social Psychology; March 2004, Vol.43 Issue 1, p99, 14p, 1
The research presented in this
paper uses memory work as a method to explore six women's collective
constructions of two embodied practices, sweating and pain. The paper
identifies limitations in the ways in which social constructionist research has
theorized the relationship between discourse and materiality, and it proposes
an approach to the study of embodiment which enjoins, rather than bridges, the
discursive and the non-discursive. The paper presents an analysis of 25
memories of sweating and pain which suggests that Cartesian dualism is central
to the women's accounts of their experiences. However, such dualism does not
operate as a stable organizing principle. Rather, it offers two strategies for
the performance of a split between mind and body. The paper traces the ways in
which dualism can be both functional and restrictive, and explores the tensions
between these two forms. The paper concludes by identifying opportunities and
limitations associated with memory work as a method for studying embodiment. [ABSTRACT
FROM AUTHOR]
My Summary: This article
“…uses memory work to explore six women’s collective constructions of two
embodied practices…” The article talks about propositions on an approach to the
study of embodiment. There are analysis of 25 memories of sweating and pain,
suggesting that Cartesian dualism is central to the women’s experiences. The
article talks about dualism being both functional and restrictive. In all
honesty… I’m not sure what to make of this article. It was very hard to follow
and understand. I got bits and pieces of information, but it doesn’t make very
much sense to me. Sorry.
The first paragraph from: Journal
for the Scientific Study of Religion, June 1990, Vol. 29 Issue 2, p277, 2p
The year 1988 marked the tercentennial of the birth of the Swedish
scientist, theologian, and revelator Emanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg and His
Influence consist of 25 papers originally presented at a symposium held by the
Academy of the
My Summary: This article is a review on a Swedish scientist, Emanuel Swedenborg. It talks about his influences and his work. The article talks about what important contributions he had in the metallurgical industry, navigation based on the position of the moon, and other interesting things. Emanuel Swedenborg seemed to be a very smart and resourceful scientist and inventor. After reading the fact about the moon navigation… I was wondering… Did he discover this before or after the Hawaiians?
Section C
(i) Janel felt stress about doing ALL the tasks and ALL the internet work. She found looking for things on the internet was challenging.
(ii) Janel thought that she should drop this class, because the class seemed too difficult for her.
(iii) Janel never gave up she did all her tasks and did her best.
(iv) Janel concluded that even with all the stress that she received from this class. She found this class interesting, worthwhile, and valuable.
(v) From Janel, I have learned that I should not give up and keep on trying. If I can’t find certain things that ask for help or step away and try to look at it from a different angle.
(i) Carol talks about being angry, irritated, frustrated, and tired. She was so angry that she wanted to throw her computer and she was yelling at her family and her dogs.
(ii) Carol thought that the finding the police liaison topic was a dead-end.
(iii) She calmed down and realized that it wasn’t her family’s or dogs fault that her assignment wasn’t going her way. She also found it helpful to play with her dogs.
(iv) Carol concluded that after all the work she found it much easier as she knew what to do. She also concluded that the computer world and the Internet isn’t as bad as she thought it was, she actually found it resourceful.
(v) Carol taught me to be patient and not to get angry at others especially when it’s not your fault. She also taught me to find a release. I don’t have dogs, but I could probably go outside and swim or something of that sort just to get the assignment off my mind.
(i) Braden felt that libraries and borrowing books were going to become obsolete.
(ii) Braden thought that in the future looking on the internet for information is much easier and less tedious than it is to go to the library and checking out books.
(iii) Braden went to library to use Netscape and found information for his topic with ease, because this was his second time around using Netscape.
(iv) Braden concluded that using the internet was much easier and less tedious than going to the library and checking out books.
(v) I found that this is true, because when I searched for the journals on Netscape I found it to be quicker and easier than looking for the journal itself. I didn’t know that the whole text was electronic. I was surprised and amazed.
(i) Lori felt that this was going to be a fun task.
(ii) Lori was very impressed at the fact that Infoseek gave her so much information. She was surprised that it gave her all the information that she needed. She also was surprised at the fact that the people at Infoseek helped answer her questions that she had within 15 minutes of sending them.
(iii) Lori searched for search engines, virtual libraries, and online libraries and found over 200 entries for each query.
(iv) Lori concluded that Infoseek was a great site and the people who works there are “pretty darn cool.”
(v) I have learned that Infoseek is a site where you can find online libraries and it doesn’t cost you a penny, which is always nice. I also found it amazing that people who work there are very accessible.

hand-hammered copper.
It is 21” in length, 8” wide, and 11” in height. You can personalize it to your liking. Each mailbox is $149.99 plus $12.00 shipping and handling.
Section E
(i) Ragna felt that Lycos and Infoseek were amazing tools on the internet. She found the assignment itself frustrating.
(ii) Ragna thought that the internet was a very useful tool, but she found that Netscape took to long and she found that she was very impatient with the internet and the computer. She also thought that Infoseek was more helpful than Lycos.
(iii) Ragna found her subject through Lycos, and she clicked on certain links, but she got impatient and started clicking other links causing the computer to freeze.
(iv) Ragna concluded that she needs to be more patient with the computer and “watch that display at the bottom of the page, and wait until the entire document requested has been send.”
(v) I learned from Ragna that I have to be patient and watch the display at the bottom to find that document I have opened has been sent. I have also learned about a new search engine, Lycos, I have never heard or used this search engine before.
(i) Unlike all the others that I have reported about, Ronel was very confident with this assignment he found that this assignment was very easy. He was very confident in doing this task, because he has used search engines before.
(ii) Ronel thought that this task was really simple.
(iii) Ronel typed in keywords that related to the topic in the search engine and then “POOF” it appeared.
(iv) Ronel concluded that you can’t panic and you have to approach the assignment with confidence.
(v) I have learned from Ronel that you have to relax and do these assignments, and if you don’t get the answers that you expect search for other keywords that may relate to your topic.
(i) Christine talks about when she first got the internet she was intimidated.
(ii) Later one Christine talks about how interesting and beneficial it was to find things on the internet. She also mentions how you can find anything and anyone.
(iii) Christine talked about she found an old-friend on the internet, and how she can compare notes and other things with other people all over the “net.”
(iv) Christine concluded that the internet is a very useful and powerful tool.
(v)
I applied this task by looking for information on the
internet, I found it amazing being able to find so many different mailboxes.

Section F
(i) Jill felt very intimidated, confused, and wasn’t sure if she was ready to be doing all these different tasks on the internet. She actually debated whether to drop this class or not.
(ii) Jill initially thought that the class was going to go slower for novices like her, but she was wrong and debated whether to drop the course or not.
(iii) Jill studied a HTML code book, but later on found that Dr. James’s directions were very easy to use.
(iv) Jill concluded that doing things on the Web was much easier than she thought. She found that following Dr. James’s instructions was all she needed.
(v) Jill showed me that even though I am not a novice with FTP software, I still needed Dr. James’s instructions, which I must admit it did help a lot.
(i) Ginger felt very frustrated doing these tasks.
(ii) Ginger thought that it was “do-able,” but she knew it was going to take some time. She talks about how you have to start from somewhere in order to become an expert on something.
(iii) Ginger talks about working collectively with others. She talked about sharing the work with one of her classmates.
(iv) Ginger concluded and promised that if you stick it out it’ll be a euphoric experience.
(v) Ginger has taught me to share the work with others in class. Not by cheating, but by helping one another. By sharing the work you cut the amount of time you spend on the tasks in half and you can help each other solve the problems that you can’t solve on your own.
(i) Heather talks about how she felt fear, frustration, motivated, and addicted.
(ii) Heather thought that everyone has addictions, and computers (the internet) are one that many can relate to.
(iii) Heather talks about getting so frustrated that she physically took it out on the computer. She found that taking an ICS class really helped her with all the problems she was having.
(iv) Heather concluded that there is a lot of information on the internet and she found that taking the ICS class helped her learn how to use the computer.
(v) Heather has taught me that I need to be patient and not bang my computer around, because it won’t get me anywhere. She also taught me to get help whether it’s professional or someone who has somewhat knowledge with computers and the internet.
(i) Christine talks about how she felt frustration, stress, anxiety, and even depression.
(ii) Christine thought that she could procrastinate and do the tasks later.
(iii) When Christine was ready to do the reports she found that it was harder than she expected, and she didn’t have as much time as she thought she did. She clicked on other students links and found that she should have looked at their reports earlier so that she wouldn’t have procrastinated.
(iv) Christine concluded that she was glad she took this class, but she wished she hadn’t procrastinated.
(v)
I have learned from Christine’s report that I shouldn’t
procrastinate doing these reports. They take much more time than you think they
do.
Section G
(i) Michelle felt that this class is interesting and exciting. She talks about being so excited being part of a cyber community.
(ii) Michelle thought about how everyone in the cyber community was like a family. You being the youngest generation are like the baby. You learn and find new things about the internet that the past generations (the parents) didn’t know or didn’t have access to.
(iii) Michelle looked back on all the previous generations and found that there were so many things to learn from.
(iv) Michelle concluded that because of all the new technology the human race is becoming lazy, but she also agrees that with all the new technology there are great things too.
(v) Michelle has taught me to go about doing these tasks and assignments with a positive attitude. She taught me to look at the big picture.
(i) Shawna felt that this have been many ups and downs, from making lots of mistakes to accomplishing goals that you can be proud of.
(ii) Shawna thought that she would “never make it through the system alive.”
(iii) Although there were discouraging points Shawna kept trying and trying till she completed all her tasks.
(iv) Shawna concluded that you need to keep trying and don’t give up, because the reward is huge.
(v) Shawna taught me to not give up, because in the end you get to sit back and look at the hard work you put into the tasks and project and be proud of it.
(i) Carol felt frustration and irritation when things didn’t work out.
(ii) Carol thought that her homepage looks horrible compared to others and she stood up for herself by explaining that this was her first one.
(iii) Carol calmed her frustrations and irritations and came to realize that she could only do so much.
(iv) Carol concluded that she tried her best, and she isn’t an expert. She also came to conclusion that, she’s not sure what she’s looking to learn and what she’s looking for in cyberspace.
(v) I have learned from Carol that you have to be patient and you can’t force your page to look awesome. She showed me that you should put all your effort into it, and that’s the best you can do.
(i) Jacquelyn talks about how she felt impatient and irritable.
(ii) Jacquelyn thought that this report was going to be a little easier, because she had already experienced the first report.
(iii) Jacquelyn took notes and followed Dr. James’s instructions step by step.
(iv) Jacquelyn concluded that although she had already done the first report you still need to read and fully comprehend the instructions.
(v)
Jacquelyn’s insights taught me that I shouldn’t over or
underestimate my knowledge with the internet or the reports.
Section H
This report was about learning what others have learned from previous generations. You learn from previous generations on…
(i) How they felt about the tasks.
(ii) What they thought about the tasks
(iii) What they did with the tasks
(iv) What they concluded from these tasks
(v) How their insights applied to me performing my tasks.
I have learned from Report 1…
I have learned that you need to be patient with your tasks
no matter how frustrated you get. I have also learned that procrastinating is a
BIG “NO-NO” if you read the other
generations ALL of them say the exact same thing. They say that it’s the
“stupidest” move you can make.
Section I
To future generations…
- DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will be left behind and it’ll take you a lot of effort to catch up.
- No matter how stressed out or difficult it may seem, there’s ALWAYS a way out. Ask for help from friends or classmates, you can even ask Dr. James.
- The instructions are very detailed and repetitive, but there’s a reason for that. READ VERY CAREFULLY.
- Last but not least the effort you put into this class is well worth it no matter how hard you work you’ll DEFINITELY get something out of this class. I learned how to do many different things, and this ONLY the first report.
DON’T
BE DISCOURAGED…. GOOD LUCK!!!!
