Concept One:  The Gender Effect

a.        Studies show that men are more aggressive drivers than women and experience more road rage.  However, more women are engaging in aggressive driving behavior.

b.       My OpinionÉ

á          I chose this topic because it seemed interesting to me how men and women in the past have been more distinctively different but are growing closer to being more similar.

á          What was most interesting to me was that road rage in women was linked to a high level of responsibility as well as a low level of emotional support for their hard work.

á          My initial reaction was that this is probably true for a lot of things besides road rage.  Women do a lot of work and in some cases, are very underappreciated as well as having little support.

á          I agree that the reason for women becoming more aggressive is because of higher stress and less support.

c.        Example

á          More women are working outside of the home and now hove to deal with the traffic that men have always had to deal with.  They also have to do more driving if they have a family and kids that have to many different activities that they have to be at certain times.

Concept Two:  Driving Impaired

a.        People can be impaired in their driving from physical or emotional factors. Such as: drugs, alcohol, extreme fatigue, illness, anger, depression, disrespect, negativity and denial.

b.       My OpinionÉ

á          I chose this concept because it is something that everyone has to deal with.

á          I think it is most important that people understand that these things can impair driving judgment and people should know when they should and should not drive.

á          My initial reaction was that if people are driving under these impaired conditions, IÕm scared to be on the road at the same time as them.

á          I agree that these things can be very dangerous and people should not drive while having these impairments.

c.        Example

á          Personal experience: I have been really tired going home from my friends house late one night and just being tired can be extremely dangerous.  My blinking would be longer than they should be.  IÕve been on the road and seen drunk drivers, and that is very scary.

Concept Three:  Emotional Self Control Behind the Wheel

                  a.  The most important thing for a driver is to be able to maintain control over the vehicle as well as a situation, so people need to train themselves to be able to control their emotions behind the wheel because emotions that are out of control can impact a situation.

b.       My OpinionÉ

á          I chose this concept because everyone needs to learn how to control their emotions while driving.

á          What was most interesting to me was that some people are able to raise their level of emotional intelligence as a driver and become more aware while behind the wheel.  They can then recognize rage when it is coming and then they are able to manage it effectively.

á          My initial reaction to this was that it should be a simple task.

á          I agree that people need to be in control of their emotions while driving or else they can be a hazardous driver.

c.        Example

á          I have seen the effects that emotions can have on a person first hand.  A friend of mine likes to drive around while we are just talking to each other.  One time her boyfriend called while we were on a drive and they had an argument.  By the time she got off the phone with him, she was very upset and her driving style had changed.  People need to be able to control their emotions while driving or it can be very dangerous.  She had almost run a red light because she had gotten so emotional and distracted.
