I.Power and Solidarity
A. very fundamental in socio linguistic theory
1. In everyday encounters people in America use first and last name pronouns to show rank
2. Tannen believes one necessarily entails the other.
3. Man at her lecture wore a three-piece suit and carried a backpack. Backpack creates solidarity with the students. Three-piece suit represents his power and differentiation from the students
B. Power represents the dominance model; Solidarity represents the equity model.

II. Dominance and solidarity
