5.1.1 The mind’s three discrete Degrees
1. Diagram 111 - The major components of the
human mind (in successive order).
a. Inmost or Soul Proper-The Soul proper is the inmost
because it is closest to the Divine Order and the most celestial or most
heavenly.
b. Mind – The mind is also known as the spirit which is
our immortality and our life beyond the natural world.
c. Spiritual Body – This is what encases our mind, it is
similar to armor because it is a shield around us.
d. Natural Body – The natural body is simply the
physical body and the sensations that we experience in the natural world.
2. Understanding the order and degrees of layers in our
universe.
a. Successive Order and Simultaneous order.
i.
Successive
Order is the developmental view of the order in which the components of the human
mind work. It begins with the most
internal at the top and works its way down to the external (as seen above).
ii.
Simultaneous
Order is similar; however, rather than a column it is instead a layered circle
from innermost to the outermost. In comparison
to the Successive Order, the innermost is of course the internal and the
outermost is the external.
b. Continuous degrees.
i.
A
continuous degree means exactly what it implies. Each layer is continuous onto the next, the
layers touch each other physically from one to another.
ii.
For
instance, a cake has many layers of frosting, custard, and cake which all touch
physically between the layers.
c. Discrete layers.
i.
There
are three discrete layers in our universe.
1. Celestial – The heavenly divine order of God.
2. Spiritual – The mind outside of our physical body,
also known as our spirit.
3. Natural – The physical and superficial world.
ii.
These
layers are named discrete layers because they are individually distinct,
meaning they do not physically touch.
They are all separate entities that cannot enter into one another. Although they continuously exist at the same
time, they never overlap each other or intertwine.
3. The laws of correspondences.
a. The degrees do not intertwine; however, they do
simultaneously exist. Without one
another cannot subsist.
b. An event is made of up three events: source, cause,
and effect. Each aspect of an event is
needed for another to occur.
i.
Source
– A Celestial degree (where it all begins).
ii.
Cause
– Spiritual degree, which is the mind’s inner thoughts and understanding that
bring about the effect.
iii.
Effect
– This is where the event is accomplished through the physical world.

Discrete Degrees In Successive and
Simultaneous Order - I chose this site because it has the same diagrams from
Dr. James Leon’s lecture notes with a different outlook of the diagram. The explanation of the different
degrees are more detailed and easy to understand. With my understanding of the information, the
site seems to be credible.

Theistic Science – This website has
many links to help one understand more about Theistic Science. There is a search engine within the science
that can be useful also.

Spiritual Psychology – This website
explains the external and internal degrees from another viewpoint. The anatomy of the mind is dissected for
better understanding of its readers. Another
important reason why I chose this website is because of the diagrams that are
not shown in our lecture notes, which may be of interest to other students.
