5. Choosing Between Heaven and Hell

4 Types of traits

1)      Love of self for the sake of self alone

2)      Love of the world for the sake of self alone

3)      Love of self for the sake of others

4)      Love of world for the sake of others

Human behaviors fall into one of these categories and we practice the mixture of all these traits while we are in the physical world connected to the physical body (Layer 12). One of the most adapted traits tends to become one's personality habit and the base for his or her natural mind (Layer 9, 8, 7). We love either self or the world. Love of the world is about everything except the love of self; the things which the world can give you. Love of the self is about how something you feel. Category 1 and 2 are hellish traits while 3 and 4 are heavenly traits.

After resuscitation, we leave any cultural and personal traits, and only keep one of those 4 traits, which love of self, love of the world for the sake of self, or love of others, heaven, and God. If the person chooses to remain the hellish traits, they will live in various hellish societies. They may enjoy themselves first but later they find they are in the societies where people are cruel and hate each other. This is the life of hell in eternity. Swedenborg found that people in the hell are irrational, lacking human feelings, egotistical, and selfish. They are not interested in learning about heavenly truths and realities.

Hellish traits

These are hellish traits because the self is depraved when it becomes the center of an individual's love and hell is the result of oneÕs deprived self. What we do "for the sake of self alone" is destructive, victimizing, unjust, and irrational. We naturally know the certain selfish traits, such as murder, assault, and theft, are bad since they causes the break up of relationships and of community life. We can find numerous thoughts and behaviors, which we do for the sake of self alone in our daily life even though we do not realize them.

As our love of self or the world for the sake of self only is deeply attached to us from the time when we were born in the physical world, no one can stop loving their inherited evils and acting selfishly. Only the Divine Psychologist and the individual who is motivated to face spiritual combat with spiritual truths, which are acquired from Sacred Scripture (7C), can stop these hellish behaviors.

Heavenly Traits

People who choose heavenly traits, which are love of self for the sake of others and the love of the world for the sake of others, will live in beautiful heavenly surroundings and societies in the life of eternity after their resuscitation. They live together and enjoy all their heavenly wish and also they are free from all the former troubles in physical world since they have discarded these when resuscitation.

Normal Morality: Is it really "true" and "absolute" rules of conduct?

We develop the normal morality through socialization with layer 8 thinking (8C). We learn what behaviors are socially acceptable or recognized as responsible citizens or parents. The knowledge has acquired from authoritative or persuasive approach by such as parents, peers, teachers, and so on. However, because of the different cultural backgrounds and personal value, people have different opinions. Therefore, normal morality is neither universal nor scientific due to each individualÕs subjective values.

Theistic psychology is the next step to the normal morality. It gives us the strictly scientific and rational answers to what is morally right and good. Moralities, heaven, hell, right, wrong, good, and evil are all concepts, which can be rationally defined by their spiritual consequences for the individuals. Contract to the normal morality, this principal is really a scientific since it is objective and rational.

One can acquire a rational understanding of the process of the growth and development of our mental organs with our life, experience, and immortality. As they grow up, many young adults start to question and feel uncomfortable with many rules and regulations around them, which they have taken for granted as truths. They start to examine their socialized philosophies, approaches to morality, and their lifestyles. Sooner or later, they realize (1) the existence of God and (2) their own conscience and Sacred Scripture are good guides to understand what is good or evil. This rational approach is layer 7 thinking because they think about the spirituality and the Divine Psychologist becomes a source of further understanding. This approach is beneficial since it includes happiness, love, and wisdom in this life and more in eternity.

Natural Truth vs. Spiritual Truth

If you evaluate yourself in your daily setting with natural truth, your evaluation might be different from others because of its relativity and disagreements about what is good or evil due to subjective perspective. On the contrary, the spiritual truth from Sacred Scripture (7C) states a clear and specific definition of good and evil. Good traits allow you to live in the heaven of your eternity while evil traits require you to live in hell of your eternity. One can acquire the spiritual truth from Sacred Scripture. Spiritual truth is very important in the mental world of eternity just like natural truth is important in the physical world. If one is unwilling to learn spiritual truth after resuscitation and love oneself alone, they will hang to false truths and they will lead the one to the hell in the eternity, which is dedicated exclusively to hellish enjoyments.

It is very important for adults to acquire spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture with layer 7 thinking. It will be criteria to evaluate our spirituality traits in our daily life (Layer 9 and 8). This task cannot be accomplished by anyone else except oneself because we love our hellish traits and we even hide most of them from others. It needs oneÕs self-monitoring and conscious evaluation (7C). Acquiring the spiritual truth will be possible if one is willing to corporate with God and to face spiritual combat by using spiritual truths in our thinking (7C) to evaluate our intentions and motivations (8A), our thoughts and reasoning (8C), and our overt behavior (8S & 9).

It is important to remember that you are responsible for making decisions to do something for hellish or heavenly motives. You need to make careful decisions by reflecting your conscience and values, and have to stop thinking and acting when you find them as hellish because it contradicts to God and your heavenly eternal life. If you behave by opposing your conscience, you will injure your spiritual mind rather than fostering its growth and development. You need to protect your spiritual mind for the heavenly life in eternity. To refuse hellish motive is very difficult, especially in the beginning but if one can keep working hard, talking to God to receive more courage and power, the difficulties will decreases. Eventually, one will find new loves, new desires, new motives, and goals, which make one happy and peaceful.

Motive is more important than action itself

Whether your action is hellish or heavenly depends on your motive in doing the act but not the act itself. If your motive for the action is for the sake of self only, it will be hellish while if it is for the sake of self and other, it will be heavenly.

Whenever you act, there are motives. In mental anatomy, motive is the operation in your affective organ, your intentions and feelings. The affective organ dominates the cognitive organ, such as thinking and reasoning. Your intention comes from the motivation, and the motivation is the outcome of your love. You do it because you love it and the love motivates your intention. Others cannot tell oneÕs motives only from his or her overt action. The same action can be either good or bad depend on oneÕs motives. The person might not even realize if it is hellish or heavenly without practicing self-witnessing or self-monitoring. Self-monitoring is also important issue for non-theistic psychology. However, non-theistic psychology values self-monitoring for the sake of knowledge but not for the regeneration as theistic psychology does. Regeneration is the central and principal issue for theistic psychology.

It was very interesting when I realize that all our behavior come either from love of self or others and for the sake of self alone or self and others. I liked the example that I will still respect the person even though they do not favor you if I am nice to the person for the sake for others and self. It is a good example. If somebody treats me bad and I stop being nice to him or her, I am protecting my feeling, love of self, it means doing it for the sake of self alone. Also, this section reminded me the importance of self-monitoring to realize how much I love my hellish traits. I love my hellish traits and sometimes I even lie to myself to cover it and make excuse for my behaviors. It makes sense that nobody except me can achieve spiritual truth for me. As the lecture note says, it is not easy, actually very difficult to face spiritual temptation in my daily life and refuse my inherited hellish love. However I will work for it because it is the only way that I can achieve my happiness in the mental world of eternity.

6. The Psychological Process of Regeneration

What is the regeneration?

For the study of the human mind from the positive bias in science, regeneration is one of the most important issues.

Human beings exist in mental world of eternity since the spiritual body was born, which is within the physical body. As you see in the chart of 12 layers, the layers are in a successive order from the top, spiritual sun to the lower, physical body and world. Each layer is more exterior degree than the prior layer and also more interior degree than the subsequent one. For example, layer 7 is the most interior degree for the natural mind and layer 9 is the most exterior degree. We start our conscious life from layer 9 and move to layer 8 or 7, and after resuscitation, continue at layers 6, 5, or 4. However, the life after resuscitation depends on the degree of our regeneration, which one has developed in the physical world with physical body (layer 12). If one has not regenerated to develop the layers 6, 5, and 4, he or she has to stay in either layer 7 or 8 in the mental world of eternity. One will act and think same as one used to do in the physical world which will be delusional and mad in mental world of eternity.

What are the roles of the Divine Psychologist for our regeneration and where is He in our mind?

If we are willing to rationally understand the spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, Divine Psychologist can bring them into our conscious mind (7C, 8C, 9C). Further, if we are willing to apply these truths to ourselves in daily life, then Divine Psychologist can bring us the temptations to face. When we use the truths and refuse the hellish traits from the temptation, then Divine Psychologist removes the evil from us forever. He can affect our regeneration by putting us into temptations and force us by fear to resist, but the fear can just suppresses the evil loves and hellish enjoyments. When we no longer feel fears, hellish love comes back and occupies our minds in the mental world, since there is no suppression and we have total freedom to express our love. There, love rules everything. God cannot force us to regenerate; it will not be completed without self.

Divine Psychologist is the God who is present in every individualÕs mind and working for them for their eternal happiness. He is invisible because He is in the mental world but not in physical world. We are creating the intersubjective zone between the Divine Psychologist and our mind when we rationally understand Sacred Scripture. We perceive the interior meaning of it with rational understanding and it allows us to prove GodÕs existence in our mind. God is present in our mental organs, because spiritual heat and spiritual light form our mental organs, which means they are part of our mental organs.

Natural Idealism

It is important to know that natural idealism is different from the spiritual. Natural idealism focuses on equity and justice with 8C thinking in order to be more idealistic in consciousness. However, it concerns peopleÕs natural rights but not their spiritual futures in eternity.

Adults have more freedom to think deeper with different perspectives. It means we have more chance to raise our consciousness level to the interior-natural layer (layer 7). Through reformation with conscience or the spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, we start to realize the favoritism, discrimination, materialism, which are all selfish attitudes and we can reject these ideas. Layer 7 thinking allows one to find the idea of eternity in our philosophy and justifications. Rational mind (layer 7) plays the critical role in regeneration because it locates between heaven (layer 6) and hell (layer 8). It means that rational mind can be either n the order of heaven, if looks upward to the Spiritual Sun, or in the order of hell, looks downward to the physical world. In order to acquire spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, one needs to look upward in our consciousness in layer 7.

Naturally Sane but Spiritually Insane

It is called being Òspiritually insaneÓ to look downward for facts and data on our spiritual mind.

Layers 6, 5, 4 are the spiritual mind and these mental organs let our consciousness access to our conjugial heaven. For the regeneration, we have to make our spiritual principles based on spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture. On the other hand, natural principles have to do with our civic and moral life on the physical world. They are cognitive operation in 8C, and let our consciousness access to our daily life. The consciousness is given from layer 9 (corporeal mind), which connects to the physical body and inherited hellish tendencies. The regeneration of character in this life is necessary in order to have the mental habits, which can keep us sane in the rational and spiritual of the world of eternity. The thoughts we have in the time-space physical world do not allow us to adapt effectively to the afterlife, just like the thought and acts in our dreams do not adapt to the physical world, and it will make us insane and have a hellish life in eternity.

Before the regeneration in layer 7 and 8, we are in the order of hell and being spiritually insane. We acquire natural truth, which are also called civic and moral truth in physical world in physical world and we may be intelligent or scientific in the community. However, they are not spiritual and nothing to do with the world of eternity. In this case, we are naturally sane but spiritually insane. We are spiritually insane and denying the presence of the mental world of eternity prior to regeneration. We can be spiritually sane by acquiring the spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, which gives us the definition of what is rational.

After Regeneration

After regeneration, we can see the significance or meaning of an event happens in layer 8 differently from before the regeneration. Layer 8 is no longer materialistic in mentality and thinking. We can now relate our thoughts, motivation, and action to something in our mental world of eternity in everyday life.

I think most of us are naturally sane and at the same time, spiritually insane. In order to be sane after resuscitation and in the life in eternity, we need to acquire spiritual truth from Sacred Scripture. I did not know anything about the process of regeneration and the distinct degree of mental layers, but I have believed that this physical world is the place where the human need to develop our spirit to be a better person by experiencing difficulties and there will be a world after we die, the place is less suffering and peaceful. I am not sure but I think I have learned from my religious teachings. I often see the similarities in the teachings and philosophies between theistic psychology and Buddhism, but now I understand that theistic psychology is scientific and rational with evidence. It might be natural I can see the similar ideas from my religious beliefs if these ideas came from the Sacred Scriptures and they are corresponding each other.

Section 2. Team Presentation on Readings - Sections 5 and 6  by: Charyse Iseri

The two presenters for readings were Yuko Ono and Noah Purington. Yuko gave an explanation of the distinction between heaven and hell in terms of our mental traits; whether or not there is a clear distinction between good and evil, where does this distinction come from, and various illustrations from everyday life of this distinction; what is the role of love or motive and why is it all so important; and what is the meaning of Òfor the sake of.Ó  She described the four different categories of mental traits that will determine either the heaven or hell that we will create for ourselves after resuscitation.

There are two hellish categories and two heavenly categories. The first category is the love of self for the sake of self alone (hellish); and the traits that define this category are: being selfish, egotistical, self-centered, disloyal, cruel, lacking compassion, domineering, hateful of God, marriage, children, and heaven, etc. The example Yuko gave for this category was, not speaking loud enough so that the whole class could hear because she is embarrassed and insecure about her ability to speak good English. The second category is the love of the world (others) for the sake of self alone (hellish); and the traits that define this category are: being cynical, pessimistic, avaricious, envious, deceitful, wanting to posses what belongs to others, etc. The example given for this category with was, wanting money only for herself and her benefit.

The third category is the love of self for the sake of the world (others) (heavenly); and the traits that define this category are: wanting to be effective, successful, useful, helpful, positive, popular, knowledgeable, happy, liked, etc. The example given was (in connection with the example from the first category), speaking loud enough so that she can overcome her insecurity (get a good grade) and so that the whole class can hear her. And the fourth category is the love of the world for the sake of the world (others) for the sake of the world (others) (heavenly); and the traits that define this category are: wanting power to be in service to others and country, being frugal, powerful, rich, compassionate, generous, loyal, respectful of human rights, sincere, avoiding deception, protecting marriage and children, considerate towards strangers, supportive of a just and fair law or order, etc. The example given was (in connection with the example from the third category), wanting money to feel good about helping and caring for others.

While we are all still connected to our physical bodies, we are practicing a mixture of all four of these categories in our daily lives. People will specialize in one of these categories; and therefore, adopt its related traits as a daily personal habit. For those who have their spiritual layers (6, 5, and 4) ÒopenedÓ or operationalized through regeneration, they will be able to exist in consciousness at one of those levels after they are resuscitated. But for those who do not, they will have to spend their eternity in layers 8 or 7, which is Òhell;Ó spending eternity in/at layers 6, 5, 4 is Òheaven.Ó  These four categories help me to better understand why people have the particular motives that they do. Their love of self for the sake of self, love of the world for the sake of self, or love of others, heaven and God is the underlying support for their motive, which in turn affects their action(s).  It is easier to accept why people do and say the things that they do because I am aware that they have adopted the traits of one of the categories—heavenly or hellish.

In regards to whether or not there is a clear distinction between good and evil, the answer is no. However, with the help of the schema which breaks down all human behavior and the motives of all human behavior (love of self or the world (others)), we can have an easier time figuring out what is right from wrong that we are thinking and what is good from bad that we are intending or enjoying. From the perspective of spiritual truths that can be acquired from Sacred Scripture though, there is a clear cut and specific definition of good versus evil. If you possess and live according to good traits you will be able to live in the heaven of your eternity; however, if you possess and live according to evil traits you will have to live in the hell of your eternity.

After resuscitation, we do not take anything (physically or mentally) with us except for the traits that agree with our ruling love, either the love of self, the love of the world (others) for the sake of self, or the love of others, heaven and God. Therefore, our ruling love and motives are very important because they will determine what kind of eternity we will create for ourselves in the afterlife. If the motive of our actions is for the sake of self alone, the actual act in which we commit is evil.  But if the motive of our actions are for the sake of self and others, then the actual act in which we commit is good. It is always our motive that determines whether an act we perform is evil or good. I kind of straddle the fence on the whole idea of there being a clear distinction between good and evil. It is a very subjective concept. I personally believe that everything in accordance with God and His will is good, but someone may not. Perceiving something as either good or evil depends on the person, their upbringing, etc.

Noah gave an explanation on how we can be naturally sane, but spiritually insane; an explanation of the process of regeneration; the sense in which the process of regeneration is a psychological process; who the Divine Psychologists is; where God is present in our mind; and what the role of Sacred Scripture in regeneration is.  The process of regeneration is the chief thing we must be concerned with in the study of Theistic Psychology; it is a psychological process in the sense that it requires self-monitoring and self-witnessing in daily life.

Before we can begin this process we must acquire spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, and we must reflect on them and understand them rationally. Our spiritual layers of our spiritual body in eternity are opened in this process, and the mental layers in which we can exist in a heavenly world forever (layer 6, 5, 4) are prepared. The Divine Psychologist plays a crucial role in this process because it is He first who brings truth into the mind and then brings temptations that are to be resisted and opposed by means of reasoning with those truths. Depending on how willing a person is to fight in spiritual combat (provided by the Divine Psychologist), resist temptations from freedom, from a decision to get rid of evil loves, motivated by the desire to prepare for their heavenly eternity will determine whether or not they will be truly regenerated (by the Divine Psychologist).

So, the Divine Psychologist is God and is the one who provides us with the substances and opportunities necessary to possess and understand heavenly traits, all of which are essential to spending the rest of eternity in a heavenly state. We cannot see the Divine Psychologist with our physical eyes because He is not present in the physical world; He resides spiritually in the mental world. He is in all layers of spiritual body and present in the mind through the substances of good and truth from the Spiritual Sun.

In regards to natural and/or spiritual sanity, we are spiritually insane when we insist on remaining in the natural layers (9, 8, and 7) and refuse to have our spiritual layers (6, 5, and 4) opened or operationalized. As individuals prior to regeneration, we are spiritually insane, denying the reality of our birth and presence in the mental world of eternity, and identifying our mind with the physical things of the body and the natural world. If we use and understand spiritual truths from Sacred Scripture, we can regenerate our character from spiritually insane (hellish) to spiritually sane (heavenly). The example Noah gave of being naturally sane is dwelling in layer 8—these people have a scientific perspective and materialistic loves. The example of being spiritually insane is a person who has negative motives and does not care to do anything about bettering their motives; they have no concept of the spiritual world. This idea of natural and/or spiritual sanity is easy to understand; basically, if we do not accept the spiritual truths offered to us by God through Sacred Scripture we will be spiritually insane here on earth and in eternity. And if we do accept them, then we will be spiritually sane.

Section 3: Presentation on Exercises - Sections 5 and 6 by Angela Washington

a.)    Summarize the main ideas presented by the team

The team consisted of two young ladies, OÕConnell and Watanabe. They presented the contrast mode of thinking between the psychologist with the negative bias in science and a psychologist with the positive bias in science. The instructions called for them to present in the form of an on air radio personality, answering questions from callers with the negative and positive views. All questions within the presentation were from the lecture content 5 and 6. The essence of  those sections, were to provide students with an adequate explanation of what it is to regenerate, and how regeneration enables us to ascend into the interior layers of the mental world. The team also included the four categories of determining whether a behavior is ÒheavenlyÓ or Òhellish.Ó This includes:

Love of self, for the sake of self- alone

Love of the world, for the sake of self- alone

Love of self, for the sake of others

Love of the world, for the sake of others

From the negative bias view point, the above heavenly/hellish traits have no significance because those who hold the negative bias view, does not believe that there is an afterlife, and in fact can not conceive of the notion of there being a heaven or a hell.

b.)    Describe what they did and how they interpreted it.

As I mentioned above, the team performed in the position of radio host, with guest Psychologist from both the negative bias in science and the positive. These Psychologists, both answered questions from callers to the radio program seeking information. For example, one of the questions asked to the positive bias Psychologist was ÒWhere in our mind is the Divine Psychologist?Ó and another question asked was from the negative perspective ÒDo you believe in GodÕs existence?Ó The presenters basically gave definitions of the concepts of Hell and Heaven and how we regenerate, using the content for Dr. James lectures notes.

The two presenters interpreted each question as having an answer within theistic psychology. By taking this approach, they were able to pull facts from such scientifical evidence, such as the Swendenborg reports to confirm their individual ideas. Judging by the way they presented the material, it was clear that they had a clear interpretation of the idea of regeneration, the positive/negative bias in science, and heaven and hell.

c.)    Describe some of the ideas that needed a better justification or greater amplification

Well, not to be too critical of the group but I feel as though they could have memorized the key points to each argument and went with it from there. The dialogue could have consisted of more personal examples from their perspective lives. It would have also added greater impact if the presenters could have went into more detail about why a persons with the negative bias in science, can except theories in science as being true even without proof that the Swendenborg reports offer with experience. Also, a deeper clarification of how exactly we can move up in the layers if we hold the negative bias.

d.)    What was the success of the approach they used?

The group did an excellent job defining the difference between the negative and positive bias as well as incorporating those concepts into a question and answer form like a radio show. By allowing each other adequate time to speak, and not talking over each other, like most radio host and guest tend to do, they maintain a positive atmosphere for the other to feel comfortable.

e.)    What improvements are needed in the procedures or in the instructions?

For this particular exercise, I believe more debate should have been allowed verses reading from the script. It would have been clearer to the presenters if the instructions suggested that the presenters listen to a real life radio show, maybe on You Tube, so that they would have made the presentation come alive.

f.)     What are the limitations to these types of exercises?

The fact that we have not yet fully mastered all perspectives of theistic psychology, we are left to kind of regurgitate the material form the lecture content without encompassing our own opinions as it applies to the content. For example, a lot of us are still trying to figure out exactly what level we are at on a daily bases, which cant be permanent because we are constantly doing things which bring us down into previous layers. This happens simply because we are still learning which behaviors are hellish and which are heavenly. However, these exercises do allow for further contemplating on the lecture readings by us performing with teams to present to the rest of the class.

g.)    Describe what append when you did some of the steps of the exercises.

My main audience at home is my boyfriend. He is already used to my ÒpresentationsÓ of the positive bias in science, because I also preach to him about the unity model of marriage. As a huge fan of the T.V sitcom ÒFrasierÓ I already have a niche for radio show psychology. My boyfriend was the caller with both perspectives and I was the Psychologist. I allowed him to ask me random questions that a person from the positive bias would ask, and he got a little stuck. You see, when he was asking questions from the negative standpoint, he wouldnÕt shut up! He had seemingly endless ÒquestionsÓ about how anyone could ever know whether or not heaven or hell exists. However, he couldnÕt put himself in the position, just for the sake of the exercises, to accept the positive bias. Although he can be a bit ÒdominantÓ in his opinions, he did agree that the four ways to determine if our behaviors are heavenly or what my boyfriend calls ÒgoodÓ or hellish- ÒbadÓ, can allow us to check our behaviors on a daily bases and carefully evaluate how we treat each other.

Section 4. Weblinks

Good vs Evil

http://www.allaboutworldview.org/good-vs-evil.htm

This site is interesting because it discusses whether or not atheists and Christians are good or evil.  Just the fact that atheist and Christians are associated with the notions of good and evil is interesting.  The author of the article says he believes that no one is free from evil; therefore implying that both atheists and Christians can be evil or have evil tendencies.  However, he concludes that since Christians believe in the existence of God and good things are often associated with God, Christians have a better grounding for morality and therefore are more Ògood.Ó

Good vs Evil

http://www.twopaths.com/goodevil.htm

This site just gives a Bible based explanation for what is considered to be good.  It is interesting because it quotes scriptures from the Bible and is the Christian perspective on what is good.  It does not directly say what is evil; however, indirectly does by using scriptures that claim believing in God and Jesus is good.

Masculinity And Femininity – Uncovering The Difference

http://www.swedenborgdigitallibrary.org/prepare/prep9.htm

This site has the writings and interpretations of Swedenborg made by Stephen R. Simons.  He generally discusses marriage; but in greater detail, he addresses the beauty of women and lists warnings for women who are married (to be seen through the Swedenborgian perspective).  He makes mention of spiritual insanity in referring to a married man who takes on a mistress and therefore becomes spiritually insane—in this situation, the woman must trust herself and choose not to become physically united with him.  This is interesting because it addresses the connection between marriage and spiritual insanity, and what a woman should do in certain situations.

Proof for Absolute Truth
http://www.absolutetruth.net/truth/

This site takes the opinion that absolute truth exists in this universe with several proofs. It also introduces two diametrically-opposed beliefs about the absolute truth: One states that there are no absolutes that define reality, everything is relative, and therefore, there is no actual reality. The other one states that there are absolute realities and standards which define what is real and what is not. Any action can be defined as right or wrong based on the absolute standards.

Self-Monitoring Behavior
http://changingminds.org/explanations/theories/self-monitoring.htm
It introduces what is the self-monitoring behavior from psychological view with negative biase. People who are high self-monitor are very self-conscious and have desire to 'look good.' On the other hand, low self-monitors are often oblivious to how other see them and therefore, go their own way.

The Definition of Morality
http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/morality-definition/
This site by Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP), introduces the definitions of "morality." It explains that the term of morality can be used either descriptively to refer to a code of conduct put forward by a society, or normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons.

What about Heaven and Hell?
http://geneva.rutgers.edu/src/christianity/heavenhell.html
This site explains what is the heaven and hell from Christian view. Everyone will be judged and their life will be evaluated. Those who depend upon Christ for salvation can be assured that they will pass this judgment. Bible describes the heaven as city of gold and the hell as lake of fire.

What comes first, action or motivation?

http://www.alduncan.net/action-or-motivation.html

This site takes different view from Theistic psychology. It states that action comes first before the motivation; Òno matter how you look at it the answer is action.Ó However, it also explains the importance of motivation for actions, saying that we canÕt have action for very long without motivation.

What does your soul look like?

http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message170763/pg1

This site poses the question, ÒIs being human a state of spiritual insanity?Ó It makes no reference to Swedenborg; however, its gives peopleÕs opinions on what spiritual insanity are. The person who posed the question believes we (human beings) are spiritually insane because we are motivated and driven to do things out of fear, versus more noble motives.  Another person responded by saying that insanity manifests from the division of the conscious mind. This is very interesting because one person obviously represents the negative bias, while the other represents the positive bias.

Who Goes To Heaven And Who Goes To Hell?
http://www.catholicplanet.com/RCC/who-goes-to-heaven.htm
This site suggests us some key behaviors which will take us to heaven, based on Roman Catholic theological explanation. It says, we (1) have to avoid evil, (2) if you have done evil, then repent, and (3) do good. It also describes the heaven as the place where you will be very happy forever and ever.
