I. RoadRageous Video Course
A. Definition- A video driver education course created by Dr. James Leon, Dr. Diane Nahl, and Dr. Arnold Nerenberg, a well-known road rage therapist.
B. Explanation- The first known Òdriver education designed to teach drivers the behavioral modification techniques they need to implement a lifelong driver self-improvement program.Ó
C. Example- An example of what you can learn in the RoadRageous video course is how use the three-step program for Òlearning to learnÓ new driving skills.
D. Cultural and Psychological Aspects- This course is beneficial because most people are unconscious of much of their driving behavior including moods and bad techniques.
E. Education- You could show the video during the course of the mandatory driver education courses or in a driving psychology course like this one.
II. Scenario Analysis
A. Definition- Examining an event like a road rage incident and looking at the sequence of events and decisions that lead to the event in question
B. Explanation- Scenario analysis can help you develop your emotional intelligence by making you more aware of how your behavior can affect other motoristsÕ behavior.
C. Example-You may do a scenario analysis of news articles of road rage incidents that provide you with enough information to reconstruct what happened.
D. Cultural and Psychological Aspects- This can teach us biased cognitions and the loss of affective control can cause actions that can lead to disastrous or even deadly results.
Education- Scenario analysis and discussions could be done driving psychology or education classes.
III. Older Drivers at Risk
A. Definition- Drivers older than sixty-five are at risk because they have to acquire additional skills to compensate for the decreased physical and mental disabilities.
B. Explanation- The number of older drivers will increase significantly in the next two decades, so young and old need understand each other and we need more programs to help keep the older drivers safe.
C. Example- A common complaint about older drivers is that they react slower in emergency situations and they drive too slowly.
D. Cultural and Psychological Aspects- It is a cultural norm to be discriminatory of older drivers. We need to adopt an understanding of the diversity of drivers
E. Education- Refresher courses may be provided for older drivers to train them to cope with changing abilities.
