The pre-ratings is a good way for the professor to get an idea of how confident I feel about this assignment as well as my drive to do well in this particular assignment. Also, the pre-ratings showed my feelings toward the internet and computers in general.
The post-ratings had the exact same questions as the pre-ratings, however my answers changed a little bit. I thought this would take an hour and a half, but it actually took less than an hour. It took about 30 minutes to do the pre-ratings and about 15 minutes to do the post-ratings, so in all about 45-50 minutes. My answers for the rating of my will and success stayed the same, but my feelings toward the computer became more positive.
My interpretation of the Pre-ratings for task 2 is that it will be a little stressful because I have to locate two journal articles. If I have a hard time finding them, I probably will get very stressed out. Other than that I feel pretty confident about completing this task.

Abstract: |
The research presented in this paper uses memory work as a method to explore six women's collective constructions of two embodied practices, sweating and pain. The paper identifies limitations in the ways in which social constructionist research has theorized the relationship between discourse and materiality, and it proposes an approach to the study of embodiment which enjoins, rather than bridges, the discursive and the non-discursive. The paper presents an analysis of 25 memories of sweating and pain which suggests that Cartesian dualism is central to the women's accounts of their experiences. However, such dualism does not operate as a stable organizing principle. Rather, it offers two strategies for the performance of a split between mind and body. The paper traces the ways in which dualism can be both functional and restrictive, and explores the tensions between these two forms. The paper concludes by identifiying opportunities and limitations associated with memory work as a method for studying embodiment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

Summary of the Article
This article is about the study of six women and their memories of sweat and pain. In all there is an analysis of twenty-five memories of sweating and pain, which is then linked to Cartesian dualism. This dualism encompasses both the mind and body in which they can both be functional and restrictive, plus the stress between these two forms.
Reaction
I am not quite sure about the understanding of this research. I have an idea, however this abstract was not well written, in the fact that it was quite vague. The picture that I get is that this research is just about women’s memories to sweat and pain and the understanding of them.

SWEDENBORG AND HIS INFLUENCE. Edited by Erland J. Brock et al. Bryn Athyn, PA: The Academy of the New Church, 1988. 492 pp. $24.95 cloth.
The year 1988 marked the tricentennial of the birth of the Swedish scientist, theologian, and revelator Emanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg and His Influence consists of 25 papers originally presented at a symposium held by the Academy of the New Church which is founded on Swedenborg's teachings. The subject matter of these papers is as varied in content as were Swedenborg's activities in life. He had a long career as a scientist and inventor who made important contributions m the mining and metallurgical industries, devised a method for navigation based on the position of the moon, made contributions to the theory that ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny in biology, founded and edited the first scientific journal in Sweden, and was undoubtedly among leading scientists in eighteenth century Europe.

Summary of the Article
Emanuel Swedenborg was a Swedish scientist and inventor. He contributed in finding a method for navigation with the positioning of the moon, the theory of ontogeny in phylogenic biology, and he was the first person to start and edit the scientific journal in Sweden.
Reaction
I never knew about Swedenborg who was great scientist in the eighteenth century, so this one paragraph told me a lot about him. Also, I am quite interested with how the Hawaiians navigated the sea with only the moon and stars and how Swedenborg also developed this same method.
The post-ratings for task 2 showed that I took longer to do this assignment then I had previously thought and written in my pre-ratings. I thought it would take me an hour, but it actually took me an hour and twenty minutes. I also found that this task did not cause me a lot of stress and I had thought that it might be hard to find the journal articles, but it turned out that it was quite accessible.
The pre-ratings for task 3 are somewhat similar to task 2. My feelings are that it will take about the same amount of time, an hour and a half. Also, I feel that it won’t be that stressful and that I will successfully complete this task because I have been doing tasks such as these every week. Therefore, I feel I am getting comfortable with doing such tasks.

Task 3 took me an hour and ten minutes. Before doing this task I thought it would take an hour and a half. I overestimated how long this task would take me because it only took me an hour and ten minutes. I also thought that this task would be a little frustrating and irritating, but in my post-rating I found that it was not at all frustrating or irritating. Also, I know that I would do a task such as this for my own personal needs if I needed to look for something in particular such as a copper mailbox.
My interpretation for the pre-ratings for task 4 is that it will be more difficult than any of the other tasks because I have never made a home page before. I anticipate that I will get irritated because I am in unfamiliar territory. Also that this task will take longer than the other tasks due to the fact that this will be my first time doing such a task.
My interpretation for the post-ratings for task 4 was that this task took me a lot longer than any of the other tasks. I had a hard time trying to figure out how everything worked and I am still not sure about everything. I was very motivated to succeed in this task and I felt a lot of irritation and frustration because this task was rather stressful for me. I also noticed that my answers were more negative towards computers when I was rating them.
My interpretation for task 5 in my pre-ratings is that it will take me about an hour to complete this task. I also wrote that since this will be my first time doing such a task, that I will get stressed if it does not go smoothly. Also, I anticipate that I will get frustrated and irritated since this will be my first time.
Report 1 consisted of pre-ratings and post-ratings for each of the five tasks. This was done to show what my feelings were before I actually completed the task and then what were the actual outcomes after completing the task. Report 1 also had to do with searching for specific items on the internet, which I feel was to get comfortable with using computers and the internet. What I hope to learn from doing Report 1 is how to publish my writings on the web so that if I ever wanted to publish something on the web, I would know how to.
My interpretation for my post-ratings for task 5 is that I overestimated the time it would take to complete this task. I thought it would take an hour, but it only took about fifty minutes. I predicted that I would get stressed out and that I would also get frustrated and irritated. That prediction came true. At first I did not know what I was doing so I went to my sister for help. After she explained what I needed to do I calmed down and was able to complete this task.
