Introduction:I have given students some credit when they created their own observations by citing it in the text. This is the section that is their depth of addressing a topic and how they do it. Also the analysis of the class serves as a reaction to the question of do students differ in the level or depth of addressing a topic? Explain how. For this section, I did a midsection report on it. I am going to do another midsection report comparing students, and then another one after that. Do they give a general observations or explanations. Do they give general observations or explanations? Do they make a conclusion? Do they merely rephrase someone else's topic or advance it? What is the role of personal experience in these e-mail messages? What are they affected by and respond to? Someone's declaration or opinion or action.


Glenn Acierto discusses some savy and sucky things to include on home pages. He does a good job in outlining his computer experiences. Glenn says meticulous planning must go into a home page. I was surprised when I saw some of the lists because I thought that frames were good things to make. I think Frames should be on the savvy list because people who make frames are adding extra depth to their design. Glenn is giving general ob servations and explanations in his report. He is advancing an explanation for web design. His report was fun to read and his conclusion is that back work must have an emphasis placed on it. Glenn is reacting to things on the home page such as the top 10 list for sucky to savvy. Glenn's has some personal experience using html.


Rose Anne Ancog Rose does not reach any specific conclucsion. She discusses what is on the list of sucky to savvy. She also describes her experience on lava net, she says it was fast and easy. There were no busy lines or a time limit. Rose gives general reactions and observations. Rose is advancing the topic of web design because she discusses her experiences on lava net. She does not have a conclusion. Rose has no experience as a web designer and she says that she has a lot to learn.


Scott ChangScott discusses some savvy things, as well as some sucky things. He says he disagrees with number three on sucky things. He says for people who want to put a desperate plea for a job, go for it. I agrere with him here. People can go for begging for a job if they have to on a web site because it is theirs. He is advancing the topic of web page design because he does different things. Such as he explains why you ought to be unique, or why you should have thumbnail graphics. There is no conclusion. Scott has taken ics 101 and says it takes hours and hours to practice html


Rudy Dolfo Rudy's report is full of reactions and observations. His report is different because he gives an observation for almost every item. Read Rudy's explanations and ideas, especially his reactions to the do's and don'ts. Rudy is advancing the topic. There is no real conclusion. Rudy's home page revolves around his love for horses.


Kristin EvertKristin's report had a distracting background which interfered with the text. Her observations and reactions were good, though, and it looked like she put a lot of effort into her home page. She seems to be advancing the topic when she talks about the top ten list. She does not make a conclusion. Krisin's personal experience has led her to consider icons for her home page.


Leslie Ann Francis Leslie makes general reactions and observations, such as she sometimes spent hours up till three in the morning making corrections on her codes and it would be a stupid mistake. Leslie also is strong on her conclusion. Leslie's background also is somewhat distracting from the text. She says she does not regret taking Psychology 409b. She is advancing a topic because she discusses each sucky/savvy category. She does not have a real conclusion. Her personal experience is that she spends hours looking at codes only to find out that there is one character missing. She says it takes a lot of patience and time.


George Higuchi George Higuchi gives general reactions and observations. Read his reactions to Dr. James's ideas of download time (not more than 10 seconds), organization (text first), and home page designing (unconfusing, informative, and creative and entertaining). George's conclusion is he went from being totally lost to proficient in creating a web page. George is advancing someone's topic because he specifically discusses in great detail some of the sucky/savvy list. He says his personal experience has been rewarding.


Middle report on students: Most of the students give their own reactions and add their own observations, like Rudy Dolfo. Others seem to be rehashing what another person says like on the sucky to savvy list. Some of these people also put in their own experiences of the internet. Most of these students reactions are based on a mixture of opinion and action when they respond to a question. Most of the students fail to make a conclusion. Most of the students differ in the depth that they give to a subject.Some of them discuss the entire sucky/savvy list, while others discuss differenet points.


May Rose Isnec May Rose Isnec's home page could use a little more explanations, such as the top 10 sucky list. But her observations are good. She makes general observations and reactions. Her conclusion is it took blood, sweat, and tears for her to learn things like search engines. Some of Mays text was also distracting from the message. May Rose's home page also rephrases what some people have said about the individual categories. She says that learning HTML is a big plus. She says it took blood, sweat, and tears to learn HTML.


David JacksonDavid Jackson's report was short and to the point. It was easy to read. He made general observations and explanations. He says that Glover and Dr. James are in agreement on certain aspects of web designing. He does not have a conclusion. He is rephrasing someone's topic. His personal experience is he started from scratch.


Kendra Morgan Kendra Morgan cites Dr. James and says that a home page must be clear (unconfus ing), informative, and useful. She makes general observations and explanations. She does not have a conclusion. Kendra is reacting to a site. Kendra started from scratch and knew some html from her job, but not a lot.


Skye NakayamaSkye's reactions are to the point. He is reacting to the web sites. He makes general observations. He seems to be rehashing what everyone has said about the sucky/savvy list. His personal experience come from ICS 101.


Kaihilei PimentalKaihilei seems to be saying what everyone else is saying about the web design. She is making general observations and explanations. Kaihilei is reacting to the Porteus hall lab monitors when he or she noticesthat the Porteus hall lab monitors were unfamiliar with web design or were unwilling to help with her questions. She does not make a conclusion. She is rephrasing what someone else has said. Kaihilei has had no previous experience with e-mail or the internet. She does not make a conclusion.


Jay Sakoda Jay seems to be making general observations. He seems to be reacting to web sites. He seems to be saying what everyone else has been saying especially when he talks about how Dr. James and Glover agree on they love their home pages. He seems to be advancing the topic of web design, especially when he makes comments on Glover's top ten list reminding him of David Letterman's top ten. Jay does not have a conclusion. He seems to be reacting to the web sites. Jay has minimal experience.


Ryan Shintani Ryan Shintani seems to be advancing the idea of web design when he mentions that he plans to purchase Front Page 98. He also seems to be furthering the idea of web design by including his opinions about web design when he says that web design is up to the designer. He does not have a conclusion. Ryan discusses web design when he first began to when he is going to get front page 98. He also talks about lava net.


Erin Tanaka Erin Tanaka seems to be rephrasing what people have said about the different texts. She says that Blinking texts are distracting for some people. She does not have a conclusion. She seems to lack personal experience except for designing a home page herself. Erin is making specific observations.


Daniel TaniokaDaniel seems to be rephrasing what people already have said about the sucky to savvy site. Daniel also does not have a conclusion. Daniel seems to be saying what everyone else is. Daniel has very little personal experience in web design. Daniel gives specific observations, particularly about the sucky/savvy list.


About everyone's paper: Everyone seems to differ about their length of the paper they write. They include their personal experiences or they talk about the glover.com site. Most people give general observations. Most people do not have a conclusion. I think it is split on people rephrasing someone's topic and advancing a topic. Most people include their personal experiences. Most people react to the web sites that they found on the subject of web design.


Introduction: The purpose of this site is to educate someone on how to make a good home page. Mr. Glover gives good tips on how what to use and what not to use. These tips are useful if you want a home page that is not sucky. See his suckometer.

I have to agree and disagree with Mr. Glover on some of his items. While frames can be somewhat irritating, it depends on how they are used. Frames to me show how much a person has developed using the web. I admit that frames can be irritating, for instance if you have to scroll a frame to look at something, then that can be irritating. I think background music ca n be a cool thing to add to a web site because not too many people know how to add background music or add it. Flexible widths are a good thing to have because people can adjust to see the whole picture. On the one hand, I found thumbnail pictures to be ir r itating because you have to click on it to see the whole picture. On the other hand, thumbnail pictures can be considered savvy because they save space from the actual picture. Height and width tags tell the browser how to load an image. This is my understanding of what height and width tags are. I guess these can be considered savvy because then the home page will load faster.


Scrolling Marquees can be irritating because they read at the same speed. I agree with Mr. Glover there. I do not see the p oint of having something there just so someone can read it at a slow speed. I agree that construction signs suck because it is obvious to someone that you are still working on your home page if something is not complete.. Cookie Crumbs are for information and it is a good thing that the majority of the web sites do not contain them. A cookie is a preference file for the Web. Cookies can also be added to the sucky list because they can be downright irritating. I agree that javascript alerts can be sucky bec ause if you are trying to look at a home page numerous times it can get irritating after awhile. It also takes a long time load from past experience. I was looking at a friend's home page and found the java alert irritating. I agree with Being Unique. Each home page is unique because someone different is creating them. Contact Info is also important because people need to know where to leave suggestions or if they want to e-mail you. Optional plugins can be irritating. I disagree that this is savvy. Not man y people want to download something just to get it for a few seconds.


In Dr. James article Psychological Aspects to Web Design states that building a home page is like having a second home. I agree with him here. You are building a second home if you are constructing a second home page. There are two views of home pages. The external, which consists of education and information, and an internal which includes home page construction. There are different types of links and home pages. The types of links there are: sequential (direct), reciprocal (mutual), circular (recursive), central (pivotal). The types of home pages that exist are artistic (expressive), indexical(topical), and standard (introductory).


A link is a communicative act by which a member of the community transmits new information or new meaning by connecting two independent ideas which have not been related before. Links in a virtual learning community are thus motivated actions or behaviors responding to a member's wishes to exchange and communicate their mental life to each other.


The affective feature of links refers to their motivation. It answers the question, Why the link was created, or, What was the person's purpose for putting a link there. The cognitive feature of links refers to their argument or implication. It answers the question, What new information or knowledge is being created through the link, or, What is the new idea that is communicated by the link. The sensorimotor feature of links refers to their location and appearance. It answers the question, How the link was created, or, What is its physical appearance.


Dr. James and Mr. Glover seem to be in agreement as to how to load up a home page, the shorter the better. Dr. James says not more than 10 seconds. I agree with Dr. James here because people are only human and can get irritated waiting for a home page to load up. Dr. James says that files should have a clear image of how they are interrelat ed. I also agree with Dr. James that the internet is one big file-sharing system. Cyberspace homes are always under construction for those who are doing a home page. Links are also important to hypertext technology.


What It is like to Become a Web Designer: A long time learning A)Where you started From: \par

A)I started in the spring of 1998. I had no knowledge of web design. I work in the college of social sciences computer center and wanted to learn how to make home pages so I signed up for Psychology 409b. I am also taking it again this semester and am learning new things such as netscape composer.


B)What you went through:

I helped myself and others by asking questions in the lab. I received help as well as gave help to others. People don\rquote t k now the difficulties in setting up a home page. You can be missing one string of characters and it will throw you off majorly. If you are missing or you will be spending a long time deleting foreign characters from your text.


C)Where you are now:

I am at the stage now where I can help people with their home pages. I am also starting to use the netscape composer.


D)What is ahead for you

I hope to finish up my reports with links to them. I also hope to be making a navigation table soon. I also hope to finish up report 3.


E)What advice do you have for future generations:

My advice is do not give up and start early on your assignments. You will notice the difference when you are not pressured to put out a good report.


F)What advice do you have for the instructor with regard to his attempt to build the online generational community classroom:

My advice to Dr. James is to keep teaching this course! It is an important course and relevant to modern day society. I would a lso like to encourage Dr. James to teach Html in class and the netscape composer, along with our discussions about the internet and driving. Index. This site contains articles on social psychology and is worth exploring. It goes into things like self and identity. I found it by using the excite search engine and by using the terms social psychology of web architecture. This site also has many specific items that deal with social psychology.
