Throughout these readings, I have come to endulge myself in the bear facts that internet literacy is an eccential part of everyday living. We communicate over the internet, we shop over the internet, we retrive information over the internet, and some live through the internet. It is nice to see that we are making an effort to spread the wealth to many different cultures. One in particular, Latinos. The overall skills and knowledge of the internet of the Latino culture, is very poor. Our efforts to try to improve their knowledge and skills of the internet, not only helps them, but it helps the society too.

It talks about the inequalities that the Latinos face with the access to technological advances. Such as computers. Also, the reading points out that the majority of the population that have access to a computer is the middle or high income people. Plus, add this ethnic background that are middle or high income people are usually white people. Though, it finally comes to past that Latinos and other cultures have the opportunity to learn the knowledge and skills of the internet. Via the public library.

The capabilities of the internet can be used as a great motivator. It depends on the person, and what are their wants and needs from the internet. The internet is a grand tool and resource that virtually anyone with a computer can access it. Having this great tool and resource that is enough to show why it is such a great tool.

Using the internet as another kind of tool, like linking other classrooms from another part of the continent. Also, being able to acquire information or books from another library across the Atlantic Ocean. Plus, being able to converse with another person of your own cultural decent. You could also, immerse yourself in a specific culture or language, to better yourself. Be able to visit another country, when your not financially able too.

Learning potential is the idea that a person has the ability and capacity to learn and understand concepts and methods. And learning styles are what makes everyone different from each other, by giving them the ability to learn with there own individual style.

Latinos like being in an environment where it is positive and motivational. Also, they like to incorperate their life style of the "familia" into their environment of study. It is shown, that eventhough Latinos get the task done slower, they are the ones that learn it the best, with the incorperation of the "familia." This is the best way to optimize any Latinos way of thinking, studying, learning, understanding, and doing.

Librarians will have to keep up with the technological advances and the way we do things, to be able to pass on that information. It is usually the librarians, who are spreading the information to other people. By keeping up with technology, librarians can be readily active to assist anyone that needs to be assisted.

Librarians are there to help people. They are getting paid to help serve people. By having more proactive people, it makes people want to learn and understand. Especially if someone is very willing and very able to assist them. Realistically, no one would turn down someone who would be able to help them. Plus, librarians that are proactive usually are the ones who are total people person.

Q: Describe some information literacy skills from this chapter that apply to you in this class.

A: Educating Latinos about the internet is very important and it does apply to me. For I am of Latino accent. It is great that Latinos have the opportunity to learn about the internet and become internet literate. The more we educate Latinos and other people, the better off the world would become.

A: Teaching Latinos about the internet can do many wonders. It can prepare them for better job placement and cut down on job training. Also, it creates better people for today's society.

Q: Why would the library be the best place to educate Latinos about the internet?

A: The library is a great place of resource, but mainly, it is a free service to the community. Also, if anyone wanted information about anything, the library is capable to hand it. Plus, there are not that many libraries around, so it wouldn't be as hard to fund a project such as this one.

As I read this article, I didn't realize how much the Latino community was in such a need for become internet literate. It is a travesty for such a increasing community to be deprived of this plethora of knowledge. Though it is great to see that there are changes being made to create an equal opportunity for all cultures. I just hope that someday all cultures, especially the Latino community becomes very internet literate that it will someday take over.

In conclusion, I've come to realize that not only is the Latino community in need of being educate, but other cultures as well. Though the first step to change is recognizing that there is a need to educate the minority groups. Still, it is a slow process. In time, all the culture will come to have an equal playing feel, in mind, body and soul.
