Self-witnessing Report on the Age of RageIntroductionby Gerald L. Lacambra |

This website is about rage. Today's society has new arenas to express its rage. Places and events that we never before imagined can be associated with rage, can indeed be conducive for rage. This website contains an annotated bibliography with following: boating rage, surfing rage, desk rage, sports rage, shopping cart rage, stock rage, golf rage, neighbor rage, email rage, pavement rage.
This growing trend does not bode well for today's society. The presence of rage may become so prevalent that society will soon be desensitized to aggression, violence, and plain lack of control.
Desensitization has already begun in today's society. With the advent of satellite television and the Internet, people need not to make a concerted effort to stay abreast with the news. Furthermore, today's news have given way to sensationalism, charisma, and the desire to be more than successful. The growing prevalence of rage is merely a manifestation of these factors.
With the increase of mental pollution in today's society, we can only expect to see even more rage. Legislation would soon follow with an increase in stricter laws, which probably will just augment frustration and add to the rage. A vicious cycle of rage is what this society may be forced to expect.
Our education system needs to incorporate more character education. There should be a requirement for participation in co-curricular activities and a class devoted entirely to emotional wellness, targeting children as early as the first grade when most begin to read and learn about things beyond their immediate environment. Peer groups designed to facilitate interaction and support, built on the principle of intersubjectivity between persons should be implemented in schools and neighborhoods. In addition, there should be a higher degree of participation between the children's parents and the programs implemented. |
