I'm sure people have felt desk rage all along but not they have a name for it. Desk rage is felt by people around the world, which isn't surprising because people spend half of their life at work and I'm sure when it gives them problems it affects them. For most people, work is their livelihood so of course they will experience some rage if it is threatened. This is a very good web site to learn more about desk rage.
For more information on desk rage see http://www.crimedoctor.com/workplace1.htm.
This web page is by Chris E. McGoey, CPP, CSP, CAM the Crime Doctor. It presents a lot of interesting information about workplace violence. It talks about the problems of office violence, it describes the typical “Killer Profile” in the workplace, and some possible triggers of violence. It also talks about how office violence can be prevented. This web page has links to view their other web pages discussing these issues and it also has a link where you can leave comments.
Here is some information from the text that I found to be extremely interesting:
Workplace homicide is the leading cause of death among female workers in the US and is the second leading cause of death for men. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 856 employees that were murdered on the job in 1997 and of those, 731 (85%) died during robberies. Among those killed during robberies, 46 percent worked in the retail trade such as convenience stores, gas stations, and fast-food restaurants. Another 17 percent worked in the service industry which includes taxi service, hotels, auto repair, and guard services. Of the remaining 15% of workplace homicides, 10% involved vindictive customers and co-workers, and 5% involved angry relatives and acquaintances.
There are a lot of factors that contribute to desk rage. It's not shocking that this problem is growing because our work is our livelihood, the issues we encounter there will probably spread to other aspects of our lives. Some of the rage that is brought into the work place is brought by others but hopefully people can reduce the rage that exists within the workplace.
