 What is Web Rage?

Web Rage is defined as frustrations that occur while surfing the Web.  This form of rage can come in the form of physical and verbal violence directed toward computer equipment.

Do You Have Web Rage?

If you have ever felt the uncontrollable urge to release your frustrations due to searching or surfing on the web, they you have experienced Web Rage.  This form of rage tends to release energy at the inanimate object, the computer.  Through this form of rage an individual remain frustrated long after the incident because the information that they wish to find in not currently accessible to them.

With Web Rage on the rise the question of who is at fault regarding Web Rage is being investigated.  The first source where Web Rage could be rooted is at the people who run and create search engines and if they are creating a system that meets the needs of their users.  With as estimated seven million new WebPages added per day search their duty is to keep themselves updated with the growing amount of web pages.  A second source of Web Rage is the users and their expectation of searching on the Web.  Through surfing on the Web users carry the idea that their information should be brought up instantly and with little trouble.  Their misinterpretation may cause the individuals to led into frustration due to their high expectation of how fast and easy searching on the Internet should be.

Roper Starch Survey Highlights New “Web Rage” Phenomenon

As more and more people become reliant of the Internet and the information that can be obtained through the Web Rage has been on the rise.  The Roper Starch Survey identifies Web Rage as contributing and reducing stress at the same time.  The basis for this reasoning is that through the Web individuals are able to gain large forms of information at a more rapid pace.  On the other hand the information is so large that the finding the information specific to the individuals needs is smaller. 

Roper Starch Survey reported the following results:

*Over one-third (36% of Internet users report that they spend more than two hours per week searching the Web for accurate information

*A majority (71%) of Internet users get frustrated when searching the Internet for accurate information.  On average, it takes about 12 minutes before a user gets frustrated when searching on the internet.

*46% of users said uncovering the wrong information during an online search is frustrating.

*86% of users feel that Web searching could be more efficient

With these high numbers of people are experiencing frustration while on the web it is clear that something should be done to alleviate the levels of frustration from those individuals.  At the same time the frustration will be removed from society and lessen the result of those frustrations being released else where in society. 

The source of Web Rage is mainly due to the fact that search engines now contain so much information that finding the information best suited for you needs cannot be found.  Information that may block an individual from finding their information is advertisements, banners, or other forms of promotion.  In addition search engines are not being.

”Web Rage” Surfaces In America

            With the present of Web rage with in the internet using community individuals have found ways of going around the this frustration.  In the past people used card catalogs to find information in the only place possible to find information, the library.  As technology evolved the telephone and the Internet now are one of the main sources that individuals use gained information.   As information web users find that they are boggled down by advertising companies wanted them they are now resorted to a more traditional and personal means of gaining information, the telephone.
