Desk Rage

What is Desk Rage?

    Desk rage is a product-overworked employee, smaller workspace, unrealistic goals, rude clients and pressure while at work.   In some cases desk rage can lead to violence in the work place, verbal abuse, attacks on equipment, sickness and other health conditions.  In the most extreme of cases co-worker have murdered their co-workers due to unhealthy relations within the office.  For example in the case of the seven Xerox murders done by Byron Uyesugi. 

 Overworked, overwrought:'Desk rage' at work

Desk rage is a form a rage that has erupted in recent times.  Some have suggested that there is a link between road rage and desk rage.  It is believed that road rage is frustration that has been carried from the work place into the parking lot then onto the roads.  Therefore, desk rage is not a minor problem and must be dealt with.  Employees and employers should work together to help identify when Desk Rage begins to erupt with in their place of work.  The cause of work rage seems to fall on the employer who creates a work setting that places their employees in a setting where unrealistic goals are put upon them.  Therefore employers should take into consideration of the ramification of overworking their employees.  In addition employees should be aware of their moral within their place of work and have prevention education information at their disposal.

Desk Rage Spurs Stressed-Out Workers to Violence in Office

      How does Desk Rage lead to violence in the work place?  Surveys have found that employees do feel that they are overstressed.  It has been reported that 34% of Americans lose sleep, 16% smoke excessively, and 11% drink excessively due to stress present where people are working.  In addition to this employees have said that will sacrifice their lunch break to finish their work.  Sean Hutchinson from the Integra Realty Resources stated that the overworked employee is due to the fact that "productivity in America is soaring, but at a price of a growing ‘desk rage''".  In result as America strives to become more and more productive they are sacrificing the well-being and safety of their workers.
