Pedestrian Rage

What is Pedestrian Rage?

Pedestrian Rage is aggression of frustration that an individual may experience either as a pedestrian to a driver, driver to a pedestrian, or possibly a pedestrian to a pedestrian. The following two articles, Teen admits 'pedestrian rage' killing and Already convicted of 'pedestrian rage,' lawyer is arrested again , deal with pedestrians' taking out rage on a driver.

Teen admits 'pedestrian rage' killing

In the 1998 article, Teen admits 'pedestrian rage' killing, Boston.com reported on a Lakewood teen who shot fifty-five year old Eun Jun Shin. The dispute began when Shin drove pass, eighteen-year-old, Jose Figueroa and his friends. Figueroa got angry and a verbal dispute broke out between Shin and Figueroa. Figueroa told the court that he intended to use the gun only to scare the driver and that shooting him in the head was an accident. Figueroa did plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter, which was reduced from murder, to and received twelve year for his actions with no parole till eighty-five percent of time is served.

The core of this Pedestrian Rage incident was that the pedestrian did not like the drivers' driving. In response the pedestrian used his weapon as a means to seek revenge against the driver and instill fear in him. Like so many 'rage' cases both parties are so caught up in their own emotions they are unable to clearly see the consequences of their actions.

Already convicted of 'pedestrian rage,' lawyer is arrested again

The article by 'staugustine.com', Already convicted of 'pedestrian rage,' lawyer is arrested again , reported that, forty-eight-old, Jeffery T. Spangler, was once again for Pedestrian Rage. Spangler's first Pedestrian Rage incident occurred when Spangler pointed a loading .357 magnum on a fellow driver who cut him off. He was charged with reckless endangerment and simple assault. Five days after being convicted, Spangler pounded a care in a parking lot and called the woman driver obscene names. Spangler himself identifies himself as being ''an aggressive pedestrian'' who does not tolerate drivers who do not yield to pedestrians. In addition the article also stated that Spangler also takes medication for anxiety and angry management and that lawyers are attempting to get Spangler's gun license revoked.

In the case of Spangler I feel this a case that has gone out of hand. As a pedestrian I feel that this individual is walking through the streets with frustration building within him. As he is walking he is waiting for an unsuspecting driver to be target of all the aggression that he has collected within. In addition I feel that this case is a good example of what happens when rage the perpetrator does not recognize that his action are not accepted by society. Therefore the perpetrator actions continue.
