Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD)
This is a page against drunk driving. It is not only for mothers
like many people believe. It is for anyone who is against drunk driving.
This page gives you information on drunk driving from statistics to articles
of victims of drunk driving. It expains that the people who die in
the accidents are not the only ones who are victims of drunk driving.
It is also their families and friends. They show the effects that
drunk driving has on victims families. It also educats people how
not to drink and drive. Gives youngsters ways of saying no in a tight
situation. Also if you do drink, gives you ways to plan ahead so
that you do not drive. It's one thing to know not to drink and drive
but another to know how not to drink and drive.
Racers Against Drunk
Driving (RADD)
"Racer's Against Drunk Driving is a Not For Profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the dangers and consequences of drunk driving. Through positive example (our associate racing team), educational programs and public appearances, we seek to engage males who are 21-35 years old (the most resistant, and difficult to reach group) to broadcast the message that the risks and consequences of drunk driving are wholly preventable and the tools for prevention are readily available. Radd's mission is to heighten the awareness level of the 21-34 year-old age group regarding the hazzards, consequences and prevention of durnk driving, through education and racing."
This is a Canadian, non-profit, registered charity, founded in 1983. They are trying, "To Reduce Death and Injury Caused By Impaired Driving Through Educational Means. It is made up of victims and their families of impared driving. It is also comprised of volunteers and concerned citizens. It has many links on how to deal with drunk driving. How to prevent it and what people can do to educate others in their area.
I think that this is a good web site. Even if is is based in Canada, they have helpful tips for anyone living anywhere. The problem of drunk driving is not only in the U.S. Education may not be the answer to stop drunk driving but it is a step in preventing many of these incidents. I am convinced that education makes a difference.
This page talks about the BAC level. This is the level in which the law decides if you are intoxicated. It is giving argument on how lowering the BAC level does not lower the amount of drunk driving accidents. They are saying that their is a difference between drinking and driving and driving drunk. They are telling the public and police to get the real drunk drivers and let the rest of them alone. They feel that it is unfair to lower the BAC test level and bust those people who have had a little to drink but are not causing any drunk driving accidents. They have links to cases and reports on this subject. They are also a part of a bigger organization called Resonable Drivers Unanimous.
I think that these people to have a case. I think laws have
lowered the BAC level for intoxicated in order to scare people from drinking
and driving. However, those people who drive drunk probably will
drive drunk no matter what the laws are. These are the people who
get wasted. This law is hurting those drivers who are aware of the
law and try to stay below it. The law is stopping people who are
not drunk but who have been drinking. Take a look at some of these
articles and decide for yourself.
Highway Safety
Advocates for Highway
and Auto Safety
"Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety is an alliance of consumer,
health and safety groups and
insurance companies and agents working together to make America's
roads safer. Advocates
encourages the adoption of federal and state laws, policies and
programs that save lives and reduce
injuries. By joining its resources with others, Advocates helps
build coalitions to increase
participation of a wide array of groups in public policy initiatives
which advance highway and auto
safety."
This is a group of people trying to make the roads safer for everyone. They have some ideas that I think would work but due to popular public opinions they will not be able to achieve. They want the speed limit to be reduced to 55mph. I think that this is an idea that might work to reduce accidents but it is unreasonable. In some states the highways are open and it is unreasonable for them to make an assumption that 55 is a limit that should be held everywhere. Some places need higher speed limits and it is in reason to drive 65 to 70 mph. Their intentions are good but they are a little unreasonable.
California Office of Traffic Safety
"The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is charged with reducing
fatalities, injuries and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes
through the administration of the California Highway Safety Plan (HSP)."
This is a very interesting link. I feel that we every county should
have a program like this.
National Motorists Association
Home Page
This group of people are out to help the everyday type of person.
They are regular people who deal with everyday problems. They advocate,
represent, and protect the interest of North American Motorist from 1982.
These people want safer driving and more freedom on the road for motorists.
They helped lobby on raising the 55mph National Speedlimit. They
give all kinds of useful advice to motorists. If you have ever gotten
a speeding ticket this is a site for you because they give information
on how to beat and avoid speeding tickets.
American Driver and Traffic
Safety Education Association
The American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA)
is a professional
association which represents traffic safety educators throughout
the United States and abroad. As a
national advocate for quality traffic safety education, ADTSEA creates
and publishes policies and
guidelines for the discipline. ADTSEA conducts conferences, workshops
and seminars and provides
consultative services. The organization also develops educational
materials.
This type of education is very important. I didn't know that
we did have something like this. Everyone needs to be educated about
traffic safety. I think that many of us don't get that type of education
when we get our licences. I feel that a class like this should be
manditory when recieving a licence.
Child Car Safety
National
Safety Council Facts Child Car Safety Seats
This is a page you can go to find answers on commonly asked question on child car seats. They answer questions like, "Where should I put my baby's seat?". If you have a baby or even a toddler it would be very benificial to visit this page. Even if you may already know most of this information you may hit upon a quetstion that you have or have not even thought of. So many baby's die in car crashes every year and many of them could have been prevented if they had known some of these facts.
WRAL
Online-Child Car Seat Safety
This is a news channels page. It is focused on a report they did on Child Car Seat Safety. They have results and statistics on how many children were killed in the last year. They also have information on how a child's safety seat should be placed in the car and also how to choose a good child car seat. They give information on where you can go to get your seat checked out. They also have links to other sites where you can ask question and get answers.
This web site is focused on child safety in cars. As many as half of the child car seats in use today are not used properlly. This is manily due to not knowing how to use them properly. No one is given a class on how to use a child car seat. Many people just go out there and use it.
This is the best web site I have come across on child seat safety.
They go into good detail on how to use a child safety seat. They
have a section on car manufacturers and rate the safety of their cars for
children. They also tell you what you might need to buy for a certain
type of car. They give you information on how, what type, and where
you can get a restraint system kits. This is the page that has it
all. Anything you need and want to know about child passenger safety
is here!
Air Bag Safety
Air bags are proven, effective safety devices. From their introduction in the last 1980's through November 1, 1997, air bags saved about 2,620 people. The number of people saved increases each year as air bags become more common on America's roads.
This is a very informative page on Air Bags and how they work. It tells you how it has developed and how effective it is. This page also has a FAQ's link. It also tells you the weaknesses to the air bag. Overall the air bag has much more pluses then minuses.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 1600 accident victims are alive today because of an air bag. However, air bags can also kill. This article in "Woman Motorist" tells that children should stay in the back seat. Air bags save lives but it is a killer when children are in the front seat. It gives warning and information on the dangers of Air Bags.
This is a good site for those who have any questions about air bags.
Air Bag Safety
Best Maintained Through Cutoff Switches
To ensure the greatest degree of safety for the greatest number of vehicle occupants, the National Automobile Dealers Association today filed comments with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommending that vehicle manufacturers be allowed to install cutoff switches for any new-vehicle air bag and provide retrofit cutoff switch kits for vehicles now on the road.
This is helpful information for those of you who are buying a new car. People should read the facts about Air Bags and decide if you want an air bag. If not, it is good to know if the car you buy has a cutoff switch installed. This is a useful device if you are going to have a child seated in the front.
Air-bag
safety baffles parents
Most adults don't know how to protect children from the potentially lethal threat of air bags - even though most know air bags can be dangerous, according to an insurance industry study out Friday. The Insurance Research Council found that 51% of the 1,991 adults it surveyed were aware of the potential dangers of air bags. That number jumps to 56% among parents with children younger than age 13.
This is very important information for parents. So many children
are killed because of lack of education and knowledge about air bags and
child car safety. More sites like this are needed. Hopfully
one day we will be able to prevent child fatalitites all together.
Even though it may seem unrealistic, it should be our goal.
