Foundation for Traffic Safety
The AAA Foundation, has created their
own safety homepage to give viewers a better understanding of safety conditions.
They give an educational background, with educational materials that
are available, they include research material for viewers to read,
which include reasearch articles, and they also give other links
to more helpful safety pages.
I think that any foundation that is willing to help improve our safety situation, is commendable. I think the only way that people are going to learn about safety, is if someone is providing the information. And that is what AAA is doing.
Hopefully, people are going to read this informative page and learn about different programs that are out there to benefit their own saftey.
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety brings together people who are interested in making our roadways a safer place. The methods and approach include a yearly report that is compiled by the advocates that emphasizes the different problems that need to be addressed. The different advocates, help research these needs and how to fix them in the most effective manner.
I think that this method can be very effective
if the advocates do a thorough job in their research and ideas. I
think that any organization that is interested in changing and improving
our traffic safety is worth the time and effort.
North Carolina's Depatment of Transportaton Traffic Safety Systems Management Unit
This page focuses on the safety mainly on highways. North Carolina created this page and their mission is "Dedicated to reducing the number and severity of traffic crashes and crash potential in North Carolina". I thought that this page was very commendable because there are people out there who are trying to make our roads a safer place.
The Traffic Safety Systems Management Unit was implemented to observe and research the highway systems in North Carolina. Their approach includes researching, and improving texhnology on the roadways to help expand safety measures.
I think that through the many programs implemented by The Traffic Safety Systems Management Unit, there may be a way to better our highways. This research process may take a long time, however, it is a worth while to save lives.
If this project is successful in North Carolina, hopefully other states will implement these programs to better all highways.
American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association
ADTSEA (American Driver and Traffic Safety Eduaction Association) promotes the safety educators such as teachers, professors, specialists, police and other advocators. They promote the education and information of traffic safety. This page provides information on how to become a member of this association, research and statistics, and conferences that are being help nationwide.
The key method to this association is by educating people on better traffic safety mainly through conferences. I think that conferences can be a good idea however, not everyone is interested in traffic safety. It would be difficult to attract an audience.
I think that the educators of traffic safety should be influenced to educate high school students since they are the upcoming drivers in America. I think that this association has many positive aspects as well as negative. Anything to improve traffic safety is important.
National Motorists Association
The National Motorists Association (NMA) advocates safety for all North American drivers. This association suuports the elimination of the national 55 mph on highways. Their main goal is to protect all motorists and their rights. They also support better safety laws, reasonable speed limits, better driving training and oppose speed traps for law enforcement. This association is funded by members of the association and by small businesses who support the NMA.
I think that this association has a lot of promise in improving our road ways and our safety as motorists. It is important that these associations have the proper support and funding to appropriately use these programs. I think that this association has made a big impact in the traffic safety world.
The NMA has used many forms of media (television,
raido talk shows, magazines, newspapers and also infront of governmental
representatives) to educate the motorists of their rights and ways in which
to improve driving.
NHTSA - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
NHTSA activates different safety issues which affect each driver in America. They cover a very wide range of topics and safety issues when it comes to motorists. They conduct many different research studies on driving behaviors and on our traffic safety. They also investigate automobile defects and they take action if they find a problem. NHTSA also promotes other safety features such as air bags and how to improve them. To top it off, they also have a toll-free hotline to answer any questions that one might have. I thought that was a good idea. The NHTSA is under the Department of Transportation and receives governmental funding.
I think that the NHTSA has many good features that benefit motorists. They seem to be very devoted and persistent with their intent of improving safety on the highways. I think that with the information available, the motorists have an opportunity to explore their rights and who support them. It's good to know that there are organizations that support safety activism on the roadways.
U.S. Department of Transportation
This page advocates safety on all types of transportation such as bicycles, buses, automobiles, motorcycles, trains & airplanes. This page was produced by the United States Department of Transportation. Under each category of transportation, are links to other pages which explain different safety standards. I found that these pages are very helpful because it gives detailed information to the average person.
For example, the bicycle page gives information on how to keep yourself safer and how to best utilize the safety equipment that are readily available. Also, the aviation page, gives information on new laws that are being passed to keep each passenger safer.
The approach to this page is to give the reader a better understanding of the safety programs available. I found that this page gives an extensive background to the safety information. I think that through this page, many Americans can learn so much information on how to keep our transportation world a safer place.
I thought that this page was really good because it not only focused on the average automobile driver, but also to the other forms of transportation. I think that this is very important because there are risks everywhere.
Research on Drinking and Driving--MADD - Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Research done for Mothers Against Drunk Driving advocates the reduction of drunk drivers. It is important to learn how to prevent drunk driving even though you know not to drink and drive. It's one thing to know not to drink and drive but there are people out there that do it anyway. It is important to educate all motorists of their actions and how it can affect others.
This article was established by a University professor of health and human development. She explained that even though you are not over .10 limit and you feel drowsy or intoxicated, do not drive. Even though your limit may be below .10 everyone reacts differently depending on their tolerance.
I think that by publishing these types of articles, hopefully motorists will read them and educate themselves. I think that drunk driving is a big issue that has been killing many motorists and pedestrians for years and it needs to be reduced. I think that it is good that these organizations take a stand and help to reduce these fatalities that could hve been prevented.
Trucker's perspective is a very informative article which is written to educate the drivers of automobiles about the risks and dangers of driving alongside a truck. I think that this is a very convincing page because it gives a regular autmobile driver information on saftey issues.
The author gives guidelines to follow to ensure safety. These issues include: being patient with truck drivers, give the truck space, be cautious while driving infront or behind a truck. These rules may seem to be common sense, but I guess there are some idiots out there that don't follow these simple rules and that's how people get into accidents.
I think that this page is very informative and I learned a lot from it. I think that this page is very effective in relaying safety information.
The Truck Safety Page was generated by the Technical Services which is a forensics engineering firm that specializes in mechanical systems. This page, is especially generated for big rig drivers and how to improve on their safety skills while driving.
OHIO Partnership for Traffic Safety
This page, incorporates success stories of companies who are taking the iniciative to better educate their employee drivers. I think that through these success stories, it gives the average person a positive outlook that these safety programs really do work and they are not a waste of time. The supporters of this page are dozens of organizations in Ohio whom implement these specialized programs as a part of training for their employees.
I think that this is important because
the company should take responsibility for their employees because they
are an important comodity to the organization's success. This program
was a good idea and I think that it is proving to be a good success.
Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS)
NETS is an avide supporter for the safety of employees. This program advocates the safety activism of employees. This program also supports other safety issues such as the airbag on and off switch and The National Drive Safety at Work Week in the month of April. Many, but not all states offer programs from NETS which proves that this is a nationally growing organization that will keep on growing.
I think that programs that help safety on roadways are very useful. I think that this organization is very informative and very effective. It is important for these organizations be available to all employers.
This page is based in Arizona and includes all sorts of important safety issues within Arizona Department of Transportation. Don't worry, Stuf is not a misspelled word. It's like that on the page. This page includes all kinds of neat handy information that all drivers should know. they have a section that includes a manual of all the common traffic signs that are used in the United States. I think that this is helpful because sometimes, when I am driving, I don't notice all of the signs. It's really interesting to read about. They also included a short paragraph on why we have traffic signs in the first place.
They also include information on different safety precautions that they are taking. They have a section called, "Do flashing lights really slow traffic?". I think that this type of research is important because it gives the government an idea of what is working and what isn't. I think that this type of assessment is really important. They also included a list that tells the motorists the different projects that are going to be worked on in the future. I think that the list is very helpful becuase the motorist can plan their routes ahead of time.
I think that this page
is very informative and it gives the people in the community to have feedback
on things that are happening in their state. I think that every Department
of Transportation should implement this type of education.
Teenvue:
A Teenage Driver Safety Program
This program provides
information and help to parents of teenage drivers. It focuses on
the safety issues that teenages should become accustomed to. This
is a nationwide organization that stems from the east coast all the way
to the west coast. Parents are able to register their cars and teenagers
and are provided with a bumper sticker to announce that they are apart
of Teenvue. This website also provides links to the various police
departments state-wide and numerous used bookstores around the country.
I think that it is
important for Teenvue to better explain their perspectives and goals of
their program. I did not feel that they explained their purpose of
Teenvue. Hopefully, if they improve their page, then more people
will hear about this organization and want to learn more about it.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is interested in reducing automobile fatalities, injuries and property damage. They are a non-profit, independent, and research organization. They offer information and reserach results to better educate the daily driver about airbags, fatality facts and state law facts.
I think that this Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a great way to educate and help drivers out on the road. It is always good to know that there are organizations and programs out there to hlep every one of us.
I found that one of the features of this page called "Questions and Answers" gives the viewer a chance to ask questions and get responses. This section talks about alcohol, anti lock brakes etc. There are many other topics that they talk about. I think that this type of interaction is very important to the driver.
I think that just by having different forms of information out there makes a great difference in our safety.
SAPIENT is a Situational Awareness Planner Implementing Effective Navigation in Traffic
In this page, Rahul Sukthankar talks about the competence of robots as navigators in our automobiles and how efeective they can be. He also talks about SAPIENT which is a program that he has established that deals with the tasks of driving.
This whole concept to me seems a little much. I don't think that robots should be implemented as a form of driving tasks. For now, I think that technology is getting a little too advanced. If technology increases, we humans may lose touch of our own capabilities.
However, I do think that by implementing such programs, will make our lives much easier. There are pros and cons to this type of module.
Rahul Suktahnkar also includes some of his proposals to create such a program. I think that this will really alter our driving.
The Traffic Institute was founded many years ago at Northwestern University. this is a national non profit organization that deals with agencies that help promote local law enforcement, public safety, and traffic management. They provide research, information, specialized training and continued education. They have implemented many programs and classes throughout the year and has been proven to be very successful.
They have many programs and classes which are available to the public. They offer a class called the defensive driving class which I think every should take. I think that we need to take our own initiative to make ourselves better drivers.
I think that this Institute can be very helpful in providing information and classes. They also conduct various research through the institute. Many of these programs have been proved to be bery effective.
Ask Mr. Traffic offeres many insightful topics that are related to driving and safety. He not only talks about the different issues of safety but he gives tells you which car is the best to buys, crash wise. He also included a section that tells the viewers which car is the most prone to be being stolen and what year. He also included a list of the top ten places in America where cars are stolen from. Mr. Traffic is rather intellectual when it comes to cars and driving. He makes automobile safety fun to learn about. Mr. Traffic is a radio talk show host with the Traffic Guy called the "Traffic Jam" and they are a big hit on the mainland.
He's not an organzation; he's a traffic safety teacher in Los Angeles and Hollywood. He tells different outrageous stories about a judge whom drinks with the jury during a D.U.I. case and has reportedly gone out drinking with them and then get into his own car. It's shocking to hear these kinds of news.
Ask Mr. Traffic also includes a section that show statistics of fatal accidents within recent years in America. It wasn't too shocking that teenagers and the elderly are the leading cause of traffic fatalities. He also includes some outrageous topics. For example, Roadkill, now legal for dinner in West Virginia.
I think that Mr. Traffic's
page provides many insightly thoughts and information that will benefit
the driver. He includes some fun information as well as information
to be taken seriously. I also think that Mr. Traffic is a great way
to learn about safety activism.

This page was created by none other than Hawaii's very own Dr. Driving. Dr. Driving provides heplful tips in how to improve our safety skills on the road. He gives good insight in our everyday driving and he gives suggestions on how we can better implement our common sense in driving.
I think that this page helps us analyze our driving styles and how to recognize them. I think that most of the time, people do not realize their driving styles. I think that by reading this Handout, it helps us to realize our wrong-doing snad to prevent them.
The best way to recognize our habits is by going through this handout. I think that this handout will have significant results in distinguishing out habits of driving.
In my opinion, Deborah Welicky did an excellent job on her creation of her page on Safety Activism. The reason why I liked her page was because of the different icons and relevent material that she incorported in her page. I thought that her page was very impressive and you can tell that she put in a lot of time into her page. I compared my page to hers and my page seems boring and lame in presentation.
Robert Nakagawa also did an excellent job on his safety activism page. I thought that he had a good variety of pages that he incorporated into his informational page. The reason why I selected his page was because I know that he put in a lot of time and effort into his page and heās taking all 3 of Dr. Jamesā classes. His appearance of his page is straight forward and easy to follow. I think that Rob and I are similar in our presentation and content of this page.
My last selection was Terrence Nakamatsuās page. I selected his page because we were the only oneās that decided to do this page first. I thought that he also did a good job in his selections and presentation. Terrence did a good job in organization and it is an easy page to follow. Content and presentation wise we both put in a lot of time and effort into our pages and therefore have similar outputs.
