Speeding Issues & My Stand on the issue: |
Sandra Scarbrough Report: Speeding
Ms.Sandra
Scarbrough's report deals some of the aspects of why peoplespeed and
the consequences of the speed limit. In Ms. Scarbrough's reportshe mentions
both sides of the issue. Such as the side of people who speed, with this
side of the issue the data collected shows to some degree thatthere is
no definite correlation between speeding and accidents. That whenin some
areas the speed limit was increased there were no increases ofaccidents.
On the other side of the issue there are people who believethat speed does
cause accidents. This is shown when the driver has littleexperience such
as a teenage driver. Ms. Scarbrough's main point is thatno matter the restrictions
people will always speed.
My Stand on the issue:
I think that it is true that people will always speedunless
there are other ways of catching these people. Many people alsospeed because
they are following the flow of traffic. This may be one ofthe reasons why
there is no increase in the amount of accidents even thoughthey raised
the speed limit. I also do think that there should be moreconcern about
how much over the speed limit is really too much. Such asthe teenager just
learning to drive, would it be wise for the parent toallows these teenagers
to drive on the freeway when they are inexperienced?I think that the parents
should be responsible for these teenagers as wellas the education of these
teens to not overestimate their skills as a driver.
Shane cobb-adam'sreport:
Speeding
Mr.Shanecobb-adam's
report gave a lisitng of the people for and peolple againstspeeding
or raising the speed limit. His report gives both sides but questionsthe
information given by each party. Mr. cobb-adam's aslo notes that theremaybe
future advantages for traffic psychology to step in and help sortthrought
the information. From how the driver is feeling to the legislativelaws
which are passed.
My Stand on the issue:
I think that Mr. cobb-adam's view that traffic psychologywill
play an important role in the future of speed and the speed limit.I think
that by using a scientific approach which can test for many differentaspect
will allow for more trustworthy information. Also by studying thethoughts,
actions, and feelings of a speeder laws may be put into actionto curtail
the amount of speeding there is.
Jacy Taylor's Report: Does Speed Kill
Mr. Jacy Taylor's report on speeding has an interestingpersonal
stand point, one in which speed acts make the person feel a particularway.
Mr. Taylor's view is "I love to speed. Speed
is the best rush I have ever experienced. Fast is my favoriteway
to drive and I have driven over the speed limit more times thenI
could ever count. Ever time I get into a car and press the gas I canfeel
my adrenaline rushing and my need for speed starts to kick in."He
also comments about speeding and the law in which he states "1.Speeding
laws that the majority of citizens do not follow only makes morepeople
criminals. 2. Tickets for those caught speeding is only anotherway for
the government to get money out of us."
My Stand on the Issue
I think that speeding should be curtailed to the pointthat
majority of the people are following the speed regulations. I saythis because
if there were no regulations I think there would be alot moreaccidents.
There is a argument against this which is that by putting regulationspeople
will try to break the rules. This may be true to a certain extent, what
the regulations will do, it will be to give the people who try tobe "good
citizens" a guide line into what is acceptable by society.

My attitude as a driver is consitent with the way I drive.I try to drive with the least amount of resistence to traffic. This meansthat I follow the flow of traffic. On a normal drive with no rush my attitudeand the way i drive reflects this feeling, where I drive in a relaxed fashion.Though there are days when everyone seems to be driving extremely slowin front of me, on these days I feel a little frustration and try to speedup to get around. This frustration may lead to keep this accelerated state.Until I cool down where I am relaxed again.

Speeding Topic#1
Speedingtickets.com
On this web page the authors present much information about speeding tickets. This
sites allows one to download a report in which statistics are puttogether
for people. This site caught my attention by the fact that theyare willing
to give information about speeding tickets.

Ticket
Law Center
This site is produced by Albert M. Quirantes, Esq. Founder who practiceslaw
with a particular interest in automobile tickets. As a defense attorneythey
will help a person navigate the legal system to protect the personfrom
getting a permanant mark on their record.
It is most interesting that more and more people are creating web pagesfor
person and public use. Pages such as this gives a person informationwhich
normally they would not know about.

If you rent from the same rentalcompany
it wil show up in their records
and they may not rent until youpay
the fine(s). Lately I have been
seeing notices on rental car contractssaying
this. (Think of what
happens if everyone with a rentalcar
gets a parking ticket and doesn't
pay it!!)
As stated by others earlier in thisthread,
Send a check for your fine
when you get home and you willnot
have any problems in the future.

My reaction
I think that this should happenthat
people who rent recieve the fine since they were the one who weredriving
the car. I think also that the rental companies are moving in theright
direction for their own protection and also the protection of otherdrivers
since many people who rent do not know the area they are drivingin.

On friday coming home from collegefor
the weekend I was given a ticket on 285,
for 91 in a 55. The speed was clockedby
laser. I did the whole give him my
license and insurance thing andwent
on. I'm 19 and was told my license would
be suspended for 6 months. I havea
few questions. I heard that just a little
while ago there was some big thingabout
laser detection in Atlanta, can anyone
fill me in on this? Secondly, howcan
I get around having my license suspended?
Community service? anything? Ifany

My Reaction
There are many questions about this topic which peoplepose
to others, and others try to help them out. I think that this is importantinto
the understanding of why people speed. This understanding of speedingbecause
they can. By people helping others figure out what to look forinorder to
avoid tickets, one can speed without the worry. To some extentthe law makers
should look at what these people are saying to each otherin how to avoid
tickets, if they wanted safer street.

This activity should be continuedby future generations because it is an interesing and controversial topicin driving. Searching the web by using the search engines are very usefultools in finding information. Dejanews search engine was very insightfulin the speeding issue. Using different types of search engines wouldhelp a lot when learning more about this issue on speeding. Althoughmuch information which relates to the topic comes up try to limit the searchto one that really interest you. Thus one can give better details intothe issue and help to increase our knowledge. Also one should start earlierand participate in newsgroup discussions to familiarize themselves withthe topic.
Ms. Cherisse Eguchi's speeding issue:
CherisseEguchi's
qoute on the speed limit issue represents driving situationsunder which
a person may go through in daily life. This representationgives an insight
into how a person percieves things while driving. A quotefrom her report
gives such an insight "If I don't have to be any whereat a certain time,
I usually am more lax and more aware of what's goingon around me as I drive
(my mind is free and open). If I am going out withmy friends somewhere
to enjoy myself, music is usually playing, we aretalking and usually laughing
in the car. If I have my son with me and havean appointment to go to versus
just going shopping, I tend to be much moreannoyed at my son's loud voice."
Through this perception a person's moodchanges, from a relaxed mood to
a mood of tension and a feeling of rush.Ms. Cherrise Eguchi also points
out that there is not one thing that canaffect driving. There are many
things that can affect driving such as drugs, alcohol, other drivers, and
also the fact that a driver can get away withit.
My Stand on the issue:
Ms.Cherisse Eguchi's view of how mood can affect how a person drives isvery important to understand and keep in mind when looking at the issueof speeding. A person that is in a rush will look at everything in a negativelight. I say this through situations which I have been in, where I needto get some where and it seems as though all the lights turn red rightbefore I get there so I try to speed up to make the light. Also duringthis time of rush I see all the negative actions of other drivers. On theother side though when I am relaxed and with no where in particular togo I drive with patience and see all drivers in a positive light. Relatingto what Ms. Cherrise Eguchi stated about mood affecting driving I thinkthat it does affect a person in how they drive if they know it or not.Mood I think is the driving force behind many peoples actions and can bepositive or negative depending on the person's mood.
In conclusion,the
issue of speeding is a controversial topic. There are many factorsinvolved
in the issue of speeding. Some of these are factors which I havementioned
about speeding. Such as, the conditions in which speeding occurs, and traffic
safety are just a few that I have chosen to cover within thisreport.
Within these issues speeding is shown in two opposite standpoints. One
of a pro speeder or a speeder that see nothing wrong, and secondlypeople
who are opposed to the issue of speeding. My affective domain, whenI did
this report was alot of hard work and perserverance. At first,I felt
as if I wasn't going to finish it felt like alot of work to do butI actually
did finish. My cognitive domain when I did this reportwas not just
doing the work, but I learned a lot about the issue and thethoughts people
had about the issue. The more I researched the issue,I saw many interesting
ideas and information that caught my attention aboutdriving. My sensorimotor
domain when I did this report was satisfying. Through what I have learned
I will try to apply them to my daily routinein driving to improve.
