How Driver's Communicate:
From the Infamous "Bird" to the "Courteous Smile" by Michael Silva
Conclusion
Introduction
This
page is about the past generations' reports. I have picked a few of past
generations reports that have caught my attention. I have commented on
what I thought about it and my views on whether or not I agree or disagree
with the opinions of the past generations. It was an interesting experience
going through the viewpoints of traffic and cyber psychology survivors/fatalities.
There's definitely a difference between the first generation and the last,
not only in the technicalities of the web designs but in the students'
personalities as well.

Initial
Self Assessment as a Driver by Bryan M. Yucoco
Why I Chose This Report
I chose Bryan's
report because I wanted to see what the earlier
generations has wrote about. I was curious to see if there was
difference, if any, between the earlier generation and now. I was
also interested in his topic about self assessing while driving.
I wanted to see if I was a good or bad as a driver I thought.
What Lead Me To This Report
It was by chance that I clicked on
Bryan's name. However, his introduction really got my attention because
he was having the same difficulties using a computer as I was.
I also found it very hard and frustrating to get into the computer labs
and having to wait or using my connections to get access to a computer.
I even had a computer blew up on me. :Þ
The Topic of This Report
The topic of Bryan's report
is self assessment as a driver. He talked about various
changes a person goes through when they get behind the wheel.
Some of the things he discussed in his report includes swearing, speeding,
rushing, tailgating, and mood swings. According to Bryan, he
turns in to a Mr. Hyde as soon as he gets into a car to drive.
He rationalizes he actions by saying that he feels pressured somehow, whenever
he gets behind the wheel, to go fast. He finds himself a victim of
his "driving personality". According Bryan, he gets a
rush whenever he gets into his car. The feeling of anticipation for
speed gives him that rush and the more time he gets into his car to drive,
the faster he has to drive in order to reach that same rush he got last
time. Therefore fore he is driving faster and faster every time he
gets into a car. By observing himself, Bryan found a lot of fault
with his attitude while driving. However, he was not surprised to
find it so.
My Reaction
The impression I got from
reading Bryan's report was that it was very well thought out. He
took his time to observe his own behavior while he was driving and commented
on it. It didn't seem like he just rushed through his report just
to get it over it. I
liked the fact that just because it was himself he was observing, he didn't
try to make himself look good by saying things like he rarely engaged in
those kinds of activities.
Comparison to Other Reports
Compared to other reports I liked Bryan's
report very much. I thought it was very good. His report was
a very interesting read. He didn't just list his findings and
observations. He integrated it into his story so that it actually
made sense and I knew what he was talking about.

Portrayals
of Driving Behavior on TV: Are These Images
Promoting Bad Driving on Our Roads? by Brandi Ashby
Why I chose this report
I chose Brandi's
report because of her title. It sounded interesting. I
know that watching violence on TV promotes violence in people and wanted
to find out if it's true for driving as well.
What lead me to this report
It was mostly random choice that lead
me to her report. I wanted to see some of the reports written by
the middle generations and clicked through their reports until I found
a report that sounded interesting. Also her web page was nice.
Not too many fancy stuffs. It was easy to read and navigate through.
The topic of this report
Brandi's topic was on bad driving shown
on TV. Do people who watch bad driving on TV really mimic it?
According to Brandi's report, yes. People really do mimic what they
see on TV. She observed ten different examples of bad driving
and broke them down separately. She also gave a rating system and
evaluated the driver as well as the actual driving. She looked
at movies, commercials and music videos. She give good detailed descriptions
of the driving behaviors shown on the TV. It seems that seeing
bad or reckless driving on TV does play a role in how you yourself drives.
Brandi points out that when people sees an actor weaving in and out of
traffic coming dangerously close to an accident, yet still manages to not
get a single scratch on a car, they start to think that "Hey I could do
that". They begin to have this mind set of "If they can do it, so
can I". This kind of mind set makes people makes the road a dangerous
and sometimes a deadly place for drivers as well as passengers and bystanders.
My Reaction
I really liked Brandi's report.
It was very interesting to read . Her report was very informative
and easy to understand. I had never really thought about people mimicking
bad driving they see on TV. However, I guess it was only logical
that they do that since too much exposure to violence from TV does promote
violence in real life.
Comparison to Other Reports
I thought her report was very good
compare to some of the reports I've seen. Some of the reports were
pretty long that they scared me off even before I had a chance to read
it. However, her report wasn't long or short. I think the points
she wanted to cover went well. She didn't keep droning on and
on.

Web Designer
Principle As I See It by Rudy Dolfo
Why I chose this report
The reason I chose Rudy's
report was because his report was on a similar topic as my oral presentation.
I wanted to what other people thought about Glover's
advices on how to make you web page better.
What lead me to this report
I just chose this report at random.
I didn't know that Rudy's report was similar to my oral presentation topic
until I clicked on his name and looked through his report. I don't
really look at how the web is design, unless it's something really unusual.
I mostly look at their reports and titles to see if anything catches my
attention.
The topic of this report
The report starts off with how
helpful Glover's site on web designing. He also listed a couple of
the dos and don'ts according to Glover, when you're designing your web
page. He also give some helpful hints himself. The most important
thing in web designing in which Rudy and Glover, as well as myself, agree
on is to be unique. They suggest in designing your web site to match
your personality. Rudy points out the fact that Glover is only an
individual. Thus gives the advice of doing whatever you want with
your page, but refrain from going fanatic. He also talks about improving
netscape browsing experience and the only thing he got out of that was
to be patient. I guess that advice could apply to all the aspect
of internet surfing.
My Reaction
I liked Rudy's report. It was
short but informative. He didn't go into details so much that it
would be exhusting to read it, but gave a compact report with all the important
points pointed out. He gave his own view points as well as what Glover
said and also gave his own advices on how to improve your web page design.
I like the fact that he didn't just gave a report on Glover's thoughts
only. Rudy put his own two cents in there.
Comparison to Other Reports
Like many other reports I've seen,
Rudy's report was good. It was easy to read and understand the report.
He didn't go into too much details, I guess because of the topic of his
report was subjective. Who's to say that one person's web page is
better than the other?

How Driver's Communicate: From the Infamous "Bird"
to the
"Courteous
Smile" by Michael Silva
Why I chose this report
I chose Michael's
report beceause I wanted to know about other ways drivers communicate
on the road. And the title made me laugh. Because I've been
given the "bird" a couple of time in my life time while driving, not that
it was my fault or anything. :Þ
What lead me to this report
His web page design was quite nice.
However, as I said before it was really a random choice that I clicked
on Michael's name. I just click through the list of the people's
name until I see a report that looks interesting.
The Topic of This Report
This report was about how
drivers communicate while on the road. He also gave summearies on
previous generational reports regarding how drivers communicate on the
road. Some of the information included in those reports were on the
way people signal or communicate with each other while makeing turns, changing
lanes, yielding, overtaking, etc. It also talks about the ways of
communications. For example there are many ways a driver signals
each other. They can communicate through their vehicles by way of
intimidation. Other ways includes verbal, gestures and facial expressions.
He also talks about the communication depending on people's moods.
For example, if you're feeling angry about something and someone just cut
you off, you're more likely to give the person the "bird" rather than a
wave.
My Reaction
I liked Michael's report because of
his variations. His report started off with a review of past generations
reports that were related with his topic. It was easy to read and
his page was orderly and very nice. There were some parts that I
would have liked to read more upon and hear more of his views on the subject
not just his reaction towards what other people wrote.
Comparison to Other Reports
Compared with other reports I thought
his was good. Sometimes I wanted to know more about his views on
certain subjects, but overall I thought it was an okay report. It
was well written and not as long as some of the reports I have seen.
Table
of Contents
Conclusion
Most of the reports I reviewed was
good. It looked like everyone had put a lot of time and effort into
making it. My advice for future generations is to not to get too
overwhelm by the task. It's not as difficult as it looks. Also the
most important thing is Don't Procrastinate!
I know that by now Dr.James has told you this a couple of times.
Listen to him. I'm telling you from experience. :)
