Summary
The topic of my
first oral presentation was on a web site called "From Sucky to Savvy".
It was a list of things that you can do to make your web site sucky or
savvy by Jeffrey Glover. This page is the result of over 2 years
of research and experience in creating web sites. However, Glover
does emphasize that you should create your web sites as how you wanted
to look, to suit your personal taste and style. Glover gave a list
of the things that are sucky and savvy based on the feedbacks he got from
internet surfers.

1.
If you had to choose 1 item to be on your sucky list and 1 item to go on
your Savvy list,
what would they be and why? (Sheri
Lieberman)
I choose the ticker-tape status
as my sucky list because I like to see the location of the site I'm
heading to as well as how long I have to wait for that site and if my status
bar is covered up, I can't see that. As for my savvy list I'd choose
flexible width because I hate scrolling to the sides to see the whole page...
2.
What does Jeffrey Glover do? (Carolyn
Agmata)
I'm not sure what exactly Jeffrey
Glover do. I think he's a entrepreneur of some sort. He has
a kit that helps you set up your own web site and is selling it on his
site.
3.
Do you agree with what the author stated about the sucky list? (Jocelyn
Manibusan)
Yes. I think the author
pointed out some of the good ones that makes a web site sucky.
4.
After presenting this report to the class what will you incorporate into
your own
homepage? (Wilfred
Lee)
I'll
try to use as much as I can from the lists he suggested to make my site
better, but I don't know if I'll do a good job of it.
5.
Would too much pictures on a page distract from the main points being made?
(Kyle
Michibata)
I think the amount of pictures
would depend on the audience. Some people like looking at a lot of
pictures and others don't. Also I think you should think about the
downloading time. You don't want you audience to get impatient waiting
for your graphics to load or else they might just go to another site.
6.
Do you enjoy the power of HTML?
Will you get good at it?
Is it worth to learn it? (Dr.
James)
I do enjoy using HTML when
I know what I'm doing and it's doing what I want it to do. But most
of the time it gets pretty frustrating, especially if you don't know what
you're doing. I don't think I'll ever be good at it, probably just
adequate enough to get by. I think it is worth while to learn HTML.
Now a days you don't need to know HTML to make a web page, but I think
if you did know something about HTML, you'll understand how to make your
page better.
7.
In your opinion, what are the essentials for a functional and savvy page?
(Leon
Mosher)
The itmes on Glover's savvy
list are good things to incorporate into your web page as well as being
simple and easy to navigate through.
8. What
are the main reasons why a person may choose some of these suggestions?
(Craig
Kawamura)
People having trouble how to
make their web page or having problems are probably the main reasons why
someone would choose Glover's suggestion.
9. Would
you rather the web page that you're looking at to be more or less sophisticated?
Why? (Albert
Ne III)
I think it would depend on
the content of the web page. If it was a personal web page I would
like to see more persoanl touches to bring out the author's personality.
However, if it was a business or a government's page, then I would like
a little sophistication.
10. What makes Jeffrey
Glover an expert in this area? (Corey
Egami)
Jeffrey Glover doesn't claim
to be an expert. He just did research on what internet surfers though
was sucky and savvy about a web page.
11. Do you think
he represents the average internet surfer? (Valerie
Iinuma)
Could be that he does represesnt
the average internet surfer. I don't really know since I don't
know how many peopel he has survery or how many people responded to his
survery.
12. Who is Jeffrey
Glover and why should he be listened to? (Sean
Marrs)
I'm not sure who exactly is Jeffrey
Glover is. As I said before I think his is an entrepreneur who is
using the internet to sell his stuff. His stuff being a kit on how
to make your web page. It comes with graphics, text styles, etc.
You don't have to listen to his suggestions on the sucky and savvy list.
He does emphasize that you should create you page how you like it.
The list is just some tips for people who wants the help.
13. What do
you think of the java scripts? (Evelyn
Moss)
I don't particularly like them.
At first I thought they were cool, but then it got old pretty soon.
I got tired of keep typing in all these irrelevent stuffs.

Reactions
For my first presentation, it
was pretty good. I felt I knew the site materials well enough to
present it to the class adequately. The questions asked in class
mostly had to do with the list and the author. This presentation
easier than I expected because of the material. It was straight foward.
Overall I thought it was pretty good for first presentation.

Comparison
The oral presentation page are
pretty much similar for all the classmates. They all followed
the instructions given by Dr.James on what to put on the page. They
were easy to read and navigate through.

Suggestions
My suggestion for the future generation
is to prepare. Prepare for your presentation so you won't get flustered
if someone ask you a question. Also think up some provacative
questions to ask your audience after your presentation, like what they
think about your topic or whether or not they agree, etc. It can
gets a bit quiet after the presentation. Remember, Practice
makes it Perfect :)
