Generational Report
of Craig Kawamura's
Gender Differences In Driving, Is There a Difference?

Why I Chose This Report

I chose Craig's report because I have always wondered if there really is a difference in driving behavior between men and women.  I know what the stereotypes are, that men are more aggressive drivers and women don't know how to drive.  I personally do not believe these myths or stereotypes.  I do believe that there are a few rotten apples in the barrel, which spoil it for the rest of us, am I generalizing when I say this?  Or is there truth to these "gender" differences?

How I Found This Report

I actually found this report by accident, I was cruising through all of the past generation home pages to get an idea of what was expected in the past, and low and behold I found this report.  I saw the title, and it immediately caught my eye.  Being a woman myself, and an aggressive driver at times, I've always wondered if there's a real difference between men and women drivers.  I have seen some very aggressive women drivers and some very passive men drivers on the road lately and I was beginning to think that perhaps women are becoming more aggressive as drivers because of the stereotypes.  I was wondering if there might be some truth to that.

Report Summary

Craig first summarizes a report given in a previous generation, which explains and gives an over on norms, stereotypes and expectations of drivers.  He then goes into email postings.  Craig shows us what the individual had written in his/her posting, then gives us his interpretation and a brief summary of that particular posting.  He then summarizes all of the email discussions, which he felt was very interesting because there are so many views concerning gender and driving.  Craig takes on "these people could be right depending on the situation" attitude.  He feels that there are some gender differences, but these differences should be looked at in greater detail.  The next section dealt with newsgroups postings.  There were some very interesting postings, all relating to aggressive women drivers.  I would recommend anyone interested in this subject matter to at least read the newsgroups postings about aggressive women drivers, I think you will find if very interesting.

Reaction

This report was an interesting report, I especially liked the newsgroups postings.  One reason why I found it interesting was because there doesn't seem to be those stereotypes about women and men drivers amongst the people whose postings were in this report.  There were maybe only one or two who generalized and stereotyped divers, which I felt was just plain ignorance on their behalf.  And there were a few who generalized because of there past experiences, but for the most part, they felt there really was no difference between gender and driving.  It was interesting to see that there are so many different views on gender and driving.

Comparison

I noticed that this report was formatted almost the same as other reports relating to different topics.  They would present a topic, in this case a posting, then comment on it.  His report was very easy to read, and not to mention very interesting, especially the information in the newsgroups section of his report.  He had a lot of links to different portions of his page, which made it easier to scroll through and read.
