Report #1: Collecting Data on How Drivers Communicate

Why I chose this report

I chose this report because the topic on driver communication seemed very interesting. I have never done any research on this particular subject so I found it to be all new information.

How I found this report

I found this report by searching through the previous Generational Index.

Summary of this report

The author of this report is Nouthaya Saopeng from G10. This report is on how drivers communicate with each other while driving on the road. Three communication situations are presented which include: Changing Lanes, Merging Lanes at Entrances, and Racing. Each situation is presented with great examples so I suggest anybody who is intereseted in this topic to check out Nouthaya's webpage. Nouthaya says that as drivers, good and clear communication is the key to preventing accidents. The main thing the author wants to say is to drive safely in order to avoid getting injured on the road. This can be accomplished by using the correct communication measures wisely and effectively.

My reaction to this report

I really enjoyed reading this report on driver communication. It's a subject that I had no interest in but as I driver, I am now more aware of the messages I send out while driving. Nouthaya's examples on each situations are presented very clearly and easy to understand. In pursuit to make the road a safer place we should all practice effective driving communications.

Report #2: Tailgating Behavior: Fair or Unfair?

Why I chose this report

The reason I chose this report is because my first oral presentation was on this same topic of tailgating. I wanted to see how other students felt about this certain issue of tailgating.

How I found this report

I found this report by searching the previous Generation Index.

Summary of this report

This report is on tailgating behaviors. The author searches previous generations on this same topic and gives a brief description of their reports. Kathy Teruya from G6 believes that tailgating is neither fair nor ethical. This behavior is definitely not justifiable in her opinion. In her report Kathy says that there is a theory in psychology that tailgating is the attempt to force your will over another driver. She writes about her own experience about being tailgated and how that led to an accident. This experience led her to always look in the rear view mirror whenever she has to come to a sudden stop.

My Reaction to this report
By reading all the previous generations reports, I find that mostly everyone has the same opinion on tailgating behavior. We all hate it but we are all guilty of once being a tailgater. Taking control of our own emotions while driving is an important thing we all need remember. Being emotionally intelligent is not a very difficult thing to do. As long as we have the will to change our behavior while driving, I really feel that we can all effectively better our driving skills. Our safety is the number one issue here. By avoiding situations which put us in danger such as road rage, is a very smart thing to do! I really feel that this is an important problem that needs to be addressed more seriously. Tailgating is one of the main reasons why major accidents occur.

Report #3: Music and Driving: What Rocks Your World

Why I chose this report

I chose this report because the title seemed like a very interesting topic. While I was reading this report, I found myself really getting into this topic of music and driving.

How I found this report

I found this report by searching the previous Generation Index.

Summary of this Report

Music and Driving: What Rocks Your World is about how and what types of music affects your driving. The author looks back at previous generations and gives a brief summary about how they feel about driving. Jason Nakasone of G11 goes into four basic topics of music which are: volume of music, tempo of music, slower music, and turning it off. Everyone seems to agree that rock music makes them drive aggressively comapared to classical music which is more soothing and calming for their souls.

My reaction to this report

I really enjoyed reading Jason Nakasone's report. I recently had my radio stolen out of my car. I have been driving without any sort of music for about an year now. I notice myself being more attentive to the road and other drivers. Maybe it is a good idea to turn off the radio once in awhile and concentrate on the road like Jason said. However, I don't agree with the idea of rock music and aggressive driving. My preference in music is rock and I think I am a nonaggressive driver. I really feel once again that if you have control over your emotions, nothing will affect your driving skills. Music is a good thing. Don't let the music control your behavior. Just enjoy the music whether in the car while driving or at home.

Conclusion

It is very interesting to see how other students in the past did there reports and webpages. I noticed that the more recent generations did a lot more with their web design than the early generations. Also reading the reports of other students gave me an idea on how to do my reports and webpage. However, the most important thing I learned from this report is that we all think differently about certain issues and that we should all respect how other people feel. Just because we don't like how one person drives, that does not mean we should react against their driving. Let's all try to be a safe driver! Reading through the generations reports will help us better understand our driving habits.
