Tailgating Behavior

Why I chose this Report

Since our class is discussing issues dealing with road rage and emotional intelligence, I thought this report would be excellent because it deals with the issues of tailgating.  We just recently discussed this issue in class and I wanted read other peoples reactions to this issue.

How I found this report

I wanted to have a driving theme in my report, so I paid special attention to those reports dealing with driving.  I went on the Generations Index and found Ishikawas report in generation 8.  Since her report was very well written, I found the information interesting and easy to read.

Summary of Report

In Ishikawas report, she discusses whether tailgating is a moral issue.  Ishikawa feels tailgating is a moral issue because you the driver are intent to punish another driver.  Because of this, you are not only endangering the safety other drivers but for your safety as well.  Ishikawa also believes people use their vehicles as a shield, protecting themselves from the responsibility that comes with driving.  She states that people act differently when they are in their cars than if they were walking down the street.  Cars makes drivers feel less self conscious of their actions because they are physically shielded from others.

My Reaction

I agree with the statement that tailgating is a moral issue.  When you infringe on other peoples rights, like safety, your intentions are to cause harm to others.  This is the case with tailgating.  You are consciously aware of your actions and put yourself and the other driver in harms way.  Tailgating is a act of punishment that is a retaliation out of anger.  We as drivers have to be more consciously aware of are actions and become more responsible to allow safe passage for others.

A Comparison

Ishikawa's report really stood out to me because of her creative home page.  It looks like she spent a lot to time working on her reports and it shows by her layout and presentation.  Her information was unique because she added a personal experiment that she did that portrayed her driving behavior.

Portrayal of Driving on TV

Why I chose this Report

This report caught my attention because it dealt with issues regarding reckless driving as fun and safe.  TV shows that depict crazy driving is giving younger drivers the wrong impression about driving.  Younger drivers are becoming more and more  desensitized from the violence they see on TV and more tolerant of aggressive driving.  Since our class is dealing with driving and emotional intelligence, I thought this report might shed some light on why we are not more rational drivers.

How I found this Report

By looking through the generational index I came across Brian Carey's report in generation 10.  His report stood out because it dealt with how TV shows could give false depictions about driving.

Summary of Report

This report tells us about the distortions we get, as viewers, from TV show that depict driving as fast, reckless and safe.  We as viewers are given a false sense of security because most of the drivers that perform stunts on TV come out without a scratch.  Because of this, younger drivers have become thrill seekers and have put aside the important issue of responsibility.  Younger drivers have to be taught the dangers of driving and the consequences of irrational driving in order for them to understand that driving is real, and real people can get killed.

My Reaction

I really enjoyed this paper because it deals with  the issue that TV could have a influence on our driving behavior.  Even though we may view the action presented on TV as fake, we may have enough exposure to get a distorted image about driving.  This is especially important to younger drivers who may feel immortal and do not think rationally about their actions.  We need to enforce the idea that responsible driving is most important and that serious consequences await those who break the law.

A Comparison

This report stood out, not only because of the interesting material but also because of its creative layouts.  This report had a lot of interesting pictures that got my attention and interest.  The information was presented in a clear, concise manner which made the paper enjoyable to read compared to some other reports I read.

Definitions of Traffic Psychology

Why I chose this Report

I chose this report because it deals with the behavior while driving.  I found this report to be relevant to the class because we are dealing with the issues of emotional intelligence while driving.

How I found this Report

I found this report by first looking in the generational index and looking in the 409a generation  class.  Angelica Gilmer's report stood out because of her creative home page and her insightful view on traffic psychology.

Summary of Report

Angelica Gilmer addresses the issue that we have to look at driving in a different way.  We have to be able to look at our mistakes and correct them instead of making them bad habits.  We also have to become more responsible for our actions and understand that we are not the only ones driving on the road.  We have to accommodate for others and be responsible not only for our safety but theirs safety as well.  Angelica also states that in order for us to change our driving behavior, we have to really want to change.  It cannot be a decision made by someone else.  The decision has to made yourself.  This in turn will create a safer driving experience.

My Reaction

I really liked this report because it got me thinking about my driving behaviors.  It made me more conscious and aware that my actions have a direct effect on other drivers.  I know I have to be more responsible and patient with other drivers and be able to release my emotions in a rational manner.  By doing this I know I can create a more pleasant driving experience.

A Comparison

Compared to other reports I came across with, I found this report insightful and very interesting to read.  Her explanations were clear and her ideas were creative.  Her report was nicely presented and her layout was easy to follow.
