Churning and the New Dread p.10

Main Points:

1. No one is guaranteed a job anywhere anymore.

2. There is an increase of employees feeling job insecurity!

3.Success requires more than intellectual excellence or technical prowness.

4. Internal qualities such as resilience, initiative, optimisim, and adaptability are taking on a new valueation.

My Reaction:

  1. It is scary that a company’s economic prosperity does not increase job security!: Example AT&T: 4.7BILLION =40,000 LAYOFFS!
  2. There is no loyalty!
  3. My friend is a headhunter in Colorado aand even he is looking for other jobs!

  4. These choldren are entering the workplace

My reaction:

1.This study was done on my generation!!!

2.if there are fewer children per family= higher IQ, does the lack of sibilings have something to do w/ lower emotional intelligence?

3.I agree that this generation is more lonely, depressed, and aggressive!

  2. Combination of thought and feeling: emotional competencies
  3. emotional competencies separate us from computers!
  4. thought and feeling combo made possible in the prefrontal lobes behind the forehead, in the brain

My reaction:

1.I did not like the female flight attendant acting like a child to get her way, but it did work.

2.The stress on the communication skills involving feeling are impt. A computer does not understand that.

Relate to course:

IN THE WORKPLACE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IS ESSENTIAL BETWEEN CO-WORKERS AND CUSTOMERS!
