From Psy 459, G5:  Anthony Chung's report on G5 Looks at Traffic Psychology Resources on the Internet:
General Principles and Explanations

Why I chose this report

I chose this report because it gave a good overview of the Dr. Driving homepage.  Anthony's report gave some of the problems and solutions of dangerous driving.  I learned a little about traffic psychology and the traffic psychology course, psy 459.  I used the information in this report to give me an idea what psy 459 is like.  This made me consider taking the course next semester.

Steps that lead me to the report

As I went through the reports done by psychology 459 students, I was looking for a report that would give me a good overview of traffic psychology and what the course is like.  I started at the later generations because I figured the pages would be nicer and the reports more thorough.  When I searched through the reports, I just clicked names at random and briefly read the table of contents.  This step only took a few minutes.  When I found something appealing, I read through the entire document which took a little longer.  I only looked through about 8 reports before I decided to stick to this one.  This report had all the information I was looking for and was organized in a way that was easy to refer to.

Contents of the report

Anthony Chung's report is basically a review of some of the material he found on the Dr. Driving homepage.  He first gives a brief summary of the contents of the page.  He says there are 13 menu items to choose from dealing with the topic of being a better driver.  The purpose of the page is to help others assess what kind of driver they are, discuss road rage, and offer possible solutions to the problem.
Anthony's report talks about the three step program he found on the Dr. Driving site.  This program has you 1) Acknowledge, 2) Witness, and 3) Modify.  People have used this program to overcome negative feelings while driving and be more pleasant on the road.  Anthony also discusses a question and answer section that Dr. Driving set up for problems common to many people.  He also talks about a driving personality chart that people can use to find the areas they are weak in and need improvement.

Reaction

Anthony did a good job of describing what could be found on the Dr. Driving site.  After reading through his report, I followed his link to the Dr. Driving page and found his report to be a fairly accurate description.  His report on driving made me ponder what kind of driver I am and if I need to make any drastic changes to my driving personality.  I do frequently get upset while driving so the advice might help me.  Although I did not have a chance to make a personal assessment of my driving personality yet, I do intend to go back to the Dr. Driving homepage and follow some of the advice given.
The format of his report was rather plain.  He had a basic white background and black letters.  This made his report easy to read.  His report was not cluttered with pictures of fancy icons.  It loaded onto the screen very fast and I liked that a lot.  I did find one thing annoying though.  It seemed he had a link to the top of the page after every single paragraph.  That link would often appear twice on the same page and I felt he put too many in.

From Psy 459, G2:  Curtis Nakao's report  Initial Self assessment as a Driver

Why I chose this report

I chose Curtis's report because it gave a brief but descriptive report on five potentially dangerous driving behaviors.  The behaviors were tailgating, speeding, aggressive driving, the accordion effect, and cellular phones.  I ride with people that engage in a few of these behaviors so I was able to understand his information because of experiences of riding with hazardous people.

Steps that lead me to the report

I first searched through the later generations because I thought the work of the early generations would be rough and uninteresting.  However, I decided I might as well look there to see what the homepages and reports looked like.  For the most part I was correct.  The homepages and reports were not as nice or well done as the later generations.  But as I read through some of the reports, I found some that were interesting and that I might consider reporting on.  I looked at about 9 people's reports for a few minutes each before I decided on this one.

Contents of the report

The first topic Curtis wrote about was tailgating.  He states that it is done in various situations.  A reason he gave was some people are in a rush and wish to make the person in front of them speed up by driving very close behind them.  Also people do it as revenge after someone has just cut them off or offended them some other way while driving.
Next he talks about speeding.  He considers speeding to be driving more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit.  He says that some people speed because they are late to their destination and others simply because they always feel the need to go fast while in a car.  In his report, Curtis had comments from other people.  One person felt that it was ok to speed as long as you're not endangering the lives of others.  Another person admitted to speeding all the time whether in a hurry or not.  This person recognized his speeding problem and was taking steps to correct it.

Reaction

The report that Curtis gave was pretty good.  It gave his personal definition of different driving behaviors and his opinions on the topic.  Also, he went to a previous generation and wrote the comments of some of those students.  That section was done pretty well.  One part of his report could have been done better though.  He had five main topics that he discussed.  It was hard to find where each topic was on his page.  When he changed to another topic he used a different color for the title, but the font was still the same size.  An increase in font size would have made finding a particular topic easier.
His report has also had an effect on my driving.  After reading his reports and some of his links, I have been more aware of what kind of driver I am.  I really did not think that talking on my cellular phone while driving was such a big potential danger.  I have reduced the amount I use my phone now and have also reduced the amount I speed.

From Psy 409a, G7: Ayada Azeez's report on Acquiring Cyberspace Citizenship.

Why I chose this report

Ayada's report first caught my attention because the appearance was very appealing.  The text was easy to read and the graphics were neatly displayed.  It looked very clean compared to some of the other reports.  The actual content of the report was also appealing because the topic dealt with becoming an online citizen and Ayada's feelings throughout the process were similar to mine.  In the beginning, Ayada had some difficulties, but it all ended up to be well worth it.  I am hoping that my journey through the class will be as rewarding.

Steps that lead me to the report

In selecting this report, I chose to look at the generation right before mine, which is G7.  I was curious to see what kind of assignments the generation immediately before me was doing.  I looked at the pages of almost the entire class.  They all did a report on acquiring cyberspace citizenship and that seemed interesting because that is what I am in the process of doing.  I spent only a few minutes going through each report, mainly looking at the introductions and conclusions.  I stuck with Ayada's report because it was very well organized and that made it easy to read.  All the students in the class showed their ratings chart along with an evaluation.  Ayada's charts were the easiest to read and the evaluation explained why each rating was picked.

Contents of the report

Ayada's report on acquiring cyberspace citizenship was basically highlighting the progress she made throughout the semester.  It showed charts on how she rated herself and her assignments after completing each exercise.  Below each chart she explained the thoughts she had for that assignment and why she gave the rating she did.  After that, she summarized the work of three other students then compared their work to hers.  She then concluded with some final thoughts and also suggesstions for future generations.

Reaction
In her report, Ayada stated that learning html was a struggle in the beginning.  After she learned the basics it was still a struggle because she was always trying to find new ways of improving her reports.  I find that to be the case for me too.  Now that I know some of the basics, I am also looking for better ways to make my reports more presentable.  Whether it be with changing fonts, colors, or how I space different sections, I want my report to be as readable as it can.
Ayada's report was very clean and well organized.  She did a good job of using horizontal lines and bold print to show that a new topic was being discussed.  Other reports in her class looked like one long paragraph which made it hard to follow.  Her weak point was definately her table of contents.  It was not very descriptive of what to expect in her report.  The link titles did not tell me what the section was going to be about.  Also, she just listed the sections.  It might have looked nicer if it was put into a table.

From Psy 409b, G4:  Conrad Moreno's report on What's On The Web.

Why I chose this report

I chose Conrad's report because it gave a good review on what to expect while browsing the web.  It has been over a year since I actively surfed the web, so I thought Conrad's report filled me in on what I have missed.  Although I already knew that virtually any topic can be found on the internet, his report gave me links to some interesting places I never considered going to.

Steps that lead me to the report
I looked at the pages of early generation students, then the pages of late generations.  This time I went to the middle and found this report in G4.  I looked at about 5 or 6 others in the class for about 5 minutes each.  I decided to stick to this one because it gave a more complete report on what he found on the web.  Some other students simply had the links with a sentence explaining the site.  Conrad's report had a better description of the pages and better suggestions.
