Four Reports From The
Online Curriculum:My Fantastic Voyage
My Selection Number 1
What I liked About Quincy Tan's Report
What impressed me most about this page was his layout. I liked his web design a lot. I think that his use of background and text was great. I really liked the font and color of everything on the page. His page was not all looks either, I also liked the way that he made his comments with another color and labeled it.
The Steps That Led Me To This Report
The steps that got me here were simple. I first referred to the
Index of all Reports where I selected the Generation 7b link. This took me to the homepage of all the students enrolled in PSY409b generation 7. I then searched their pages to see what kind of topics that they had. I decided that I liked the newsgroups topic the best. I then went ahead and bookmarked all the students newsgroups reports. After bookmarking I slowly eliminated the the bookmarks to the pages that I did not like because of their difficulty in reading due to their background choices, color choices and or font selections. After the first elimination I found some pages with the same content meaning that they had the same newsgroups that they were reporting on. So I eliminated the one that was not as appealing and came down to a smaller list of three to decide from they were: Marshall's Newsgroups by Marshall Miyoshi, Identifying Attitudes Through Newsgroup by Ayada Azeez, and the one that I selected Quincy Tan Following Newsgroups by Quincy Tan.There seem to be four parts to Mr. Tan's report. The first part includes a dialogue of two people talking in a newsgroup on agression. He adds in his comments at the end of the dialogue agreeing with the rise in aggression. I believe that his second part is from a paragraph excerpt form
Glen P. Acierto's Psychology 409b Report 1. He agrees with Glen's comments on how the newsgroups are better in netscape than in pine because of the larger audience and the graphical interface. His part three would be a paragraph from Skye's, Report #1- Social Psychology of USENET Newsgroups. In this part they stress the importance and convenience of having bookmarks. In the last section Mr. Tan uses a paragraph from Kristin Evert,G5, Hawaii,Report 1: Social Psychology of USENET Newsgroups: alt.disney.secrets, alt.music.billy-joel, and me. In this section they rebuddle over people who repost messages. They feel that it would be better to use another color or to just include the comment that you are addressing.Critique Of Report
I really enjoyed the report done by Mr. Tan. I would like to believe that I could do better than him being that I am of a later generation and can add to any faults that I may think I could improve on. I must say that it would be hard to beat his design without copying some aspect of it. I really liked his background. I liked how he presented the referenced material with his own comments. Adding another color was a nice touch for the reader because you knew exactly who was talking. The color changes were not to abrupt where it was distracting. I definately think the web design was good. I think it could have been improved with a table of contents and a little more volume.
Comparison to Other Reports
In generation 7 there were a lot of neat pages, web design played a greater role than in the prior generations. I found two papers to have the same layout with the way that they presented the material with a designated my comments area. It was these two pages that I liked most in this generation. however I selected Mr. Tan's report because I felt that he had a better page layout. I liked the background and font combination than all the others in his generation. I especially appreciated the effortless reading. In other word his paper was very easy to follow and I could tell exactly when he was statig his idea or comments compared with other people that he was citing. There were some similarities in the selection on the reports and the general layout of commenting on prior generations and using newsgroups and opinions as references.
My Selection Number 2
What I Liked About Mary Aldana's Report
I chose Mary's report because I liked a number of things about it. The first thing that got me was the title that she used. I am taking three of Professor Leon's courses and hoped that Mary could give me a better idea of what it was about. The report is easy to read because the background color is not too loud, nor does it clash with the font or color of text. She uses little icons that are not too distracting that relate to the topic. Other pages that I viewed were distracting and could be gaudy. Other pages had fonts that I did not like reading on their chosen backgrounds. Some colors were too loud and distracting to me.
The Steps That Led Me To This Report
Summary Of Report
I think that I could have done a paper similar to hers. I liked the way that she incorporated the links into her pages and sumarized her topics. Her choice of fonts, color and background was not harsh on the eyes, it was fairly easy to read.
Comparison to Other Reports
I enjoyed May Aldana's report over others in her class and generation because I liked the format that she presented her material. her choice of fonts and color made it easy for the reader. She did not have any gaudy or unrelated icons on her paper, rather she had some very good small icons that related to her topic. her page did not take too long to load in fact it was pretty fast.
My Selection Number 3
My third selection came from generation 4 Traffic Psychology 459. The report was done by a
Shely Secretar on tailgating. What I Liked About Shely Secretar's Report
I got to this report very systematically. I first referred to the
index of all reports and clicked on to the generation 4 for PSY459. After getting to the homepage I was able to go to each students page and realized that they had the same report topics. I then selected the one that interested me the most which was on Tailgating (Report 2). I proceeded to view each persons report and chose Shely's because of her format. There were no fancy pages in this generation unlike in generations 5 and on. This made things a little more difficult because I had to actually read the content before selecting what page to report on.Summary Of Report
Shely's report was on Tailgating. She was able to quote and use other generations ideas and continue on the where they left off. Her paper consisted of three other people who she got her information from. They were: Sharla Supnet, AaronReisner, and Terri Slaughter. Shely's report was about the reactions and feelings that people have when being tailgated, tailgating, and why they do it along with their feelings on the topic.
I have already mentioned why I liked the report but I think that it could also use a little improvement. It is a bit outdated and the links do not work to her references. Hopefully it will be remedied soon. There was no Table of Contents in this generations work and it makes a difference if you have one or not. I think that it really helps and adds to the reports easy access.
Comparison to Other Reports
I think that most if not all of the reports done by this genereation were done in the same general way. They had all referred to prior generations and summarized their work and added their personal comments to it. All of the reports remained fairly simple and easy to read. I did not care for some of the other pages due to the background color selections or the way that they wrote. Shely's page was not the only page with broken links. Other students in the class that used the same references as Shely had the same link problems.
My Selection Number 4
I selected "
Report 1 Tailgating Behavior Fair or Unfair by: Kathy Teruya G6" as my fourth selection. What I Liked About Kathy Teruya's Report
I chose this report after a lot of time spent looking at other reports. I liked this report because the colors were not too loud and it had an interesting topic. If I find a page or report that is to harsh on my eyes or makes me feel uncomfortable then I simply look at another page. I also think that the topic has a great deal to do with my selection. Why should I chhose a pretty web page that says absolutely nothing I am interested in. The reading in this paper is easy to follow and it has a smooth rythymn to it. The reading is fun and it keeps the reader interested. Her way of writing is amusing yet serious. She adds a little humor and sarcasm which makes it better reding.
The Steps That Led Me To This Report
Summary Of Report
There are ten sections in her table of contents. Her first one being the link to the
instructions for report. Her second section would include her introduction. In the introduction she catches our attention with a play on words then she goes right into telling us what she intends to do. She also describes for us a definition of tailgating. I liked the intoduction that she supplied because it both sparked a little interest and gave me idea of what was to come.Critique Of Report
I enjoyed reading Kathy's report on tailgating and feel that I learned a bit more. I think that if you read this report with an open mind you can get a lot out of it, and maybe control or curb your desire to tailgate. There were a few spelling errors but other than that I really enjoyed the report.
Comparison to Other Reports
Kathy's report was good because it did not take long to load. The color scheme was not my favorite but it did work and was better than others in her class. I also enjoyed being able to to see her thought process and follow along what she did. She was not very decorative. her selection of Fonts was ok but it could have easily been imprved if it were more unique.
How Does My Report Fair with Others in My Generation
Suggestions to Future Generations
I think that this is one way in which the generational curriculum be best served. To allow it to become a large and ever growing database of self witnessing reports on how each person drives so that someone can come along and use all of this valuable information to solve something of importance. The database could give clues to inhibit or remove the road rage from drivers.
