My Selection Number 1
Kendra Morgans report on Usenet  Newsgroups from generation #5, 409b.

What I liked About Kendra Morgan's Report
I chose Kendra Morgan's report because of the topic she covered, which was on newsgroups, a topic I am interested in since I know very little about them.  Her homepage design was also very appealing to me since she used a blue backdrop which I thought was an eye catcher.  She also used cute images that moved, which I found amusing as well.

The Steps That Led Me To This Report
I first clicked on the homepage of our instructor, Dr. Leon James, and went into the index of all reports from the newsgroups for all generations reports.  I skimmed over several reports from different generations and spent about 5 minutes on each one.  I looked over about four reports before I came to Kendra Morgan's report in generation 5. I read her report for about 10 minutes and decided to use her report for review.

Summary Of Report
Kendra Morgan's report was on the topic of newsgroups, something I have heard mentioned in class and was instantly curious as to what she had to say about them.  She started her report on defining what a newsgroup was, an area where people take part in discussing topics of interest.  These people post questions as well as answer them.  She also went on to discuss how to access them which was through the PINE system as well as the Netscape program. I found this useful information since I have very little experience with the internet in its entirety.  Kendra also mentioned some key terms one should know if they were to participate in newsgroup discussions.  Kendra seemed to be writing the report for people who had little or no experience with newsgroups since her paper walked the reader through the system step by step.  I found her writing style very appealing since her report was written in a very simple, educational,  manner.

Critique Of Report
Kendra's report was very easy to read, and to the point.  She wrote the report so that beginners could easily understand how to access newsgroup discussions on the internet.  It was easy  to understand because she organized her report in a very precise an orderly manner, starting with the definition of what a newsgroup actually is, to defining key terms in utilizing the program in a efficient manner, to different aspects of newsgroups as a whole. Her  report's overall appearance was  neat, well designed, and interesting.

Comparison to Other Reports
Kendra's report seemed to interest me the most out of her fellow classmate's reports simply because of the content in which she wrote about.  Being the beginner that I am, her report seemed most understandable compared to others in her same generation.  I also liked her images she placed on her homepage.  The pictures were very cute and friendly which made it more welcoming to a new reader like myself.  I also liked the blue color she chose to brighten her homepage.  All of these aspects made Kendra's report much more appealing than the other reports in her same generation group. Her use of cute images also lured me as a reader.

My Selection Number 2
Quincy tan on  Following Newsgroups from generation 7, 409b.

What I Liked About Quincy Tan's Report
Looking through Generation 7 reports I came across Quincy Tan's homepage and it instantly caught my eye.  His use of color and design seemed very unique to me.  He seemed to have put a lot of effort in to designing his homepage, and it sparked my interest as to what he had to say in his report on following newsgroups, especially since the topic is of some interest to me.

The Steps That Led Me To This Report
I went into the instructor's homepage and clicked on all generational reports, this led me to the index of all generational reports and decided on generation 7 ,409b, so I clicked on it.  Quincy Tan's report was one of the last links and so I skimmed through some other reports before coming to Quincy's link.  I looked over a couple of reports, spending about 5 minutes looking over each of them until I came to Quincy's homepage and that was it, I had found my report.

Summary Of Report
Quincy's report was very short and to the point, he listed several topics regarding newsgroup discussions and  used several individuals comments to base his personal reactions on.  His first topic was on road manners where he had several individuals comment about driving manners,  needless to say, all of them were negative.  It was very interesting to read about other people's opinion regarding drivers today since I spend so much time on the road due to my long commute to school.  It is also comforting to know that I am not the only one frustrated with today's drivers.   His next topic was on using bookmarks on the Nestcape program and someone in a newsgroup discussion commented on how easy bookmarks make it on the internet user.  Quincy commented that he agreed with the individuals comments.  His last topic involved how people participate in newsgroup discussions and how it is such a waste of time when individual includes what was originally posted with the person's answer.  Some comments said that is was very annoying and irritating to have someone do that during newsgroup discussions and Quincy agreed with those comments.

Critique Of Report
I thought Quincy did a great job in designing his homepage, first of all.  His use of color in his backdrop, his heading and his lettering was what drew me to his report in the first place.  Secondly, he simplified his report by using other people's comments then simply responding to them.  I thought that it was clever in the way he structured his report, sort of a quick and easy way to relay information to the viewer.  I definitely would not have been able to design my homepage like he did simply for the fact that I do not have the experience.   Overall, Quincy did a great job on the design, structure and content of his report.  I enjoyed reading it!

  Comparison to Other Reports
In comparison to other reports I felt Quincy's report was original in the way he structured his report, and also the way he designed his homepage.  After all, the homepage is the first to make an impression on the viewer.  If the homepage is not appealing or interesting, it does not spark an interest for the reader to look further into the topic being reported, at least that is what I found from my own personal experience skimming through several reports.

My Selection Number 3
Heather Roylo's report on "My involvement on the internet"  from Generation 3, 409.

What I Liked About Heather Roylo's Report
What first led me to her report was the color of her homepage, it was a great dark blue with black wavy lines going through it, definitely eye-catching!  I was also attracted to her topic since it involved her own personal experience on the internet.  Being that it was a generation 3 report and her experience with the internet could not have been that extensive, I was really impressed with the way she laid out her report.  Her graphics were very beautiful and elegant.  The graphics made it all the more pleasant to read.

The Steps That Led Me To This Report
I first went to the instructor's homepage and clicked on the All Generational Reports button which led me to the index of all reports page.  I then clicked on the the generation 3 link and proceeded to skim through several of the reports, spending about 5 minutes on each report.  All together I must have spent about 20 minutes of skimming until I found Heather's homepage.

Summary Of Report
I felt Heather's report was very appealing and easy to read.  The design of her report definitely caught my attention. The images of butterflies at each sub-title made it not only attractive but well organized as well.  At each butterfly the reader would know that there was going to be a new sub topic that she would be discussing.  Her first topic was about her motivation for the class.  She talked about getting a good grade was important, but mastering the internet was also a second most important motivational force.  She then talked about conflicts she encountered on the internet.  She explained that she did not encounter as much problems as her classmates since she had a faster. and easier way of accessing the information that she needed. Heather also talked about how challenging this psychology class was to her and she found it to be the most challenging class she has ever experienced.  She also talked about how worthwhile and valuable this class was to her and she found it very useful to incorporate the internet into her daily life such as using accessing daily news instead of reading the newspaper, or watching it on TV.  She also found the e-mail system much more efficient than slow mail system through the post office.  Heather also talked about how involved  with the on line experience she was and how it affected her life.  She mentioned that it made her life a lot easier once she became familiar with the system and that experiencing the internet system proved to be rewarding since everything involves the computer today, such as banking , shopping, researching, the workplace, and education.

Critique Of Report
What impressed me about Heather's report was that she really went in depth about her own personal experience learning the internet system.  Her topic was of great interest to me because I could really relate to some of her experiences, although she did not seem to suffer as much as I have, I still enjoyed reading about her experience. When she talked about this Psychology class being the most challenging class in her life, I could not have said it better.  It is nice to know that others may have suffered like I have.  Heather's design of her report was also very impressive.  Her report was one of the most elegant work I have seen so far.

Comparison to Other Reports
In comparison with the other reports in her generation, Heather's report seem to be ahead of her  time.  Her artistic workmanship surpassed all others in her group.  Her content in the report was also very interesting since it involved her own personal experience with the internet, something everyone that uses the internet can relate to on some level.  Her in- depth account of her experience made it all the more appealing to read.  Her overall work was impressive and an inspiration to others.

My Selection Number 4
Shane Cobb-Adam's report on Developmental Patterns for Learning the Internet,409a,Gen.2

What I Liked About Shane Cobb-Adam's Report
What I liked about Shane's report was that it was organized in a simple manner, dividing each section of the report by red bars.  I was also attracted to the topic, which was about the psychology aspect of using the Internet, since I am a psychology major myself.   The style of his report was simple and to the point, using quotes from individuals at the beginning of each section of his report to set examples for what he was going to write about pertaining to that section.

The Steps That Led Me To This Report
I clicked on to the instructor's homepage and clicked on the icon for "all student generational reports" which led me to the index of all student reports. I skimmed through a couple of reports from the same generation, and spent about 5 minutes on each of them until I came across Shane's report.
The topic of learning about the internet caught my attention, since I am a beginner myself.  As I read further into his report I knew that his report was the one I wanted to review.

Summary Of Report
Shane's report  covered the 3 different domains in learning about the internet system.  The first domain was on the affective, or feeling aspect of experiencing the internet. In this section he used a lot of people's  personal reactions, in quotes, to give examples of feelings one may experience using the internet for the first time.  Interestingly enough, many of the feelings were of frustration.    The second domain was the cognitive, or thinking aspect of experiencing the internet. This section covered what the person's attitude may be of using the internet concerning their own capabilities.  The third was on the sensory-motor aspect, or  actually doing things on the internet and the experience it brought.  He later discussed the process one may experience while learning about the internet. He concluded that section with his own personal experiences, and how he benefited from learning about other's experiences through the internet.  Shane finishes his report by giving advice to new internet users and stresses how one should keep positive when learning something as challenging as the internet system.

Critique Of Report
I thought the content of his report was very interesting and enjoyed reading about other's opinions concerning their frustrations in learning about the internet.  It was comforting to know that I was not the only one to have feelings of frustration and helplessness when first encountering this maze of never-ending domains.  His style of using quotes first to make a point and then expanding on that idea was a clever way of getting useful information across to the reader.  I certainly breaks up the monotony of reading masses of words that do seem not come to an end.

Comparison to Other Reports
In comparison with other reports in the same generation, Shane's design of his home page and report may have not been the most appealing, but the topic of his paper, and what was covered made it interesting enough to say that his report was one of the better ones in his generation.  The attractiveness of a paper grabs the attention of a reader initially, but it is the content of the paper and how it is written that will keep the reader's interest, at least that is how it works for me.  I did not find  many interesting topics to review from Shane's generational group, probably due to my lack of knowledge about computers in general, therefore, my choice may have been biased from the start.  Topics which seemed familiar to me, topics which I could relate to were the reports I chose to review, and Shane's report fit perfectly into my prerequisite.

How Does My Report Fair with Others in My Generation
I feel I did a decent job of reviewing other student reports, but I certainly could have done a better job if I had had more experience using the internet.  I feel the content of  my report is good in the sense that it gives a lot of detailed information concerning what the other student wrote about in their reports, but as far as the artistic side to my report, there is a definite lacking!  If I could draw in my designs, well then it would be something to look at! Oh well, so much for dreaming.

Suggestions to Future Generations
My suggestions for future generations would be to allow yourself a lot of time to finish this report, especially if you have little or no experience. This project is time consuming, that involves a lot of technical maneuvering.  Be patient with yourself, and do not give up, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel!
