A brief introduction about myself and how I surfed through the reports

My name is Brandon Suetsugu and I am a senior. I am majoring in Political Science but I am in this course to learn more about the internet. This course involves a lot of work and I am finding that out ever so quickly. I plan to graduate this semester. Right now, I have no life because I am busy with school. I make some time to hang out with friends, but then it is back to work. I also am lucky to be working at the college of social sciences computer center, in Porteus 635; therefore, I can work on my report while watching the computer lab. I did this report a week before it was due and I spent at least two hours a day surfing through reports, different generations, and selecting reports that I liked over others. I did not pick people from generations one and two because none of their reports were too eye catching or full of content. They were just a bunch of reaction papers. Therefore, the newer generations won out on that area. Some reports I picked were out of pure amusement, and others were for the content.

Junko Hashizumetakes a look at the Psychology of doing a home page. She is a member of generation four. I picked Junko Hashizume's Report because I thought it was rather amusing because the content that she wrote about indicated that she learned a lot throughout the semester. I decided to pick these reports at random, and I spent at least one to two hours a day reading different reports for about three to four days. Junko went from being a beginning internet user to an advanced learner of the internet. She was able to feel involved in the internet by the time the course was done and she had completed learning HTML codes for the internet.

The things I felt involved with were her thoughts and advice on the internet. I expected a lot of work in this course, but not to the extent that it is taking me. Junko's reaction to a problem was "@!**% that" (fill in your favorite swear word). I remember having the same reaction to some of my problems. Junko also did say to avoid doing this if you can. I would also like to add that you need to spend at least five hours a day for this course. This is part of the indirect course requirement. And I am not joking here either. As I find out more about the internet and keep asking questions, particularly about how to link my home pages to the internet, I will hopefully learn. A lot of the course work involves asking Dr. James and your classmates questions. I would also advise students to do a lot of self-discovery work and try to resolve the problem yourself.

While she was doing her research, Junko learned a lot using the search engine Yahoo. She was able to find a lot of information concerning Spiritual Psychology. Her exploration through the search engine Lycos limited the results to what was relevant to what you entered using the search terms. A lot of my reactions are also based in the content of the report. I found the report refreshing because I could relate to what was going on in Junko's mind. I found her words of encouragement, and advice to be helpful.

My reaction to this is maybe I will re-evaluate the use of these search engines later on. In the past I decided not to use these search engines because I could not find the information that I wanted. I used infoseek or hot bot.

I also was with Junko when she agreed with Dr. James that clicking is an art. I believe that you have to check on the site to make sure that it is functional. Then you have to click on your favorite site so many times to access the information that you want. She also said that if you are a member of a cyber community then there is no competition in making a home page. You are making a home page and no one page is better than another and I felt this was very inviting to make a home page. Individuals are putting up a home page for the betterment of the community. That is very inviting to make a home page.

The reasons I was involved with Junko's report was that I felt that I could belong to a cyber community because if you are not looking at a home page project as a competitive project, but rather to benefit the community, then it becomes a lot easier to focus and improve upon what you have. I also felt that I could have done the same things that she did because I agreed with most of her theories and what she found in regards to the cyber community and the art of clicking.

Michelle Alonahome page was dull at first. But then I looked further and she had improved as she went along in the course. Her content was average. I learned however, because she had descriptions on what went on in her mind as she explored people's web sites. She picked Ross Takara and Ronel Agarpo's home pages because they had links to her traffic psychology home page.

Ginger Andrews had excellent graphics and her content was average. However, I had a hard time reading some of the text in her report. I also liked the frames she had in her report, but I did find them distracting.

Jill Umetsu's report is very easy to understand. She describes how and where she got to a particular step. In her report one, she uses Dr. James as an example and describes the cognitive aspect of learning on the internet. She also has organized her table of contents in a way that is easy to read and understand.

Carol Ohta'shome page had very good content. She says that says why she liked certain home pages and she also goes into search engines. She says that search engines are an easier and faster way to retrieve information and it beats going to a library. I agree with Carol's assessment of search engines because I find that the internet is becoming more reliable now. The internet is ever so rapidly developing, and as soon as there is a reliable way to verify everything on the internet, then we can put everything up on the internet. The internet will become a reliable library.

Other home pages in the generation were creative and had charts to navigate through. The content was also well developed and they seemed to overlap

The second report I chose was Christopher Sumiye's, Chris's report who is a member of psychology 409a, fall of 1997. I chose his site over Leslie Ann Francis. Leslie Ann Francis's report a member of generation five, because even though Leslie presented a good theory on the internet. The theory was that cyberspace is a counter culture and is an alternate form of therapy. I felt that her other research for her links could have been better. Also, I happened to come across Chris's report and thought it was better. Leslie's theories (as I later discovered she was taking 409a and 409b) are well developed, so I encourage the rest of you to check them out.

The reason why I picked Chris's report was that I enjoyed his explanations of why he chose the links for his generations.html file. I could see why he picked them, and how this section would be useful to me. For instance, he said he enjoyed exploring the student generation reports because he was able to discover the thoughts of others and learn from them. He also hopes that someone would read his reports and be entertained. I was entertained when I read his reports and reactions because they were honest, and I learned from them as well. I also found that in section seven, he discovered that making a home page was like making a home on earth. I thought that this was an unique theory because I never thought of designing a home page in that way.

I also learned a lot about Christopher's experiences through newsgroups. He said that there are many important points such as newsgroups develop people's attitudes and opinions, there are a wide variety of newsgroups and attitudes, everyone who participates in it because it is their area of interest; therefore, it brings their own thoughts and feelings on various subjects. And last, but not least, freedom of speech is very important to the usage of the internet. I like how Chris described flaming in a newsgroup. Flaming adds life to a newsgroup. Flaming is when you use negative and derogatory comments to voice your own opinions. While doing so, you must also remember to add constructive criticism, and back up why you flamed. It helps to add substance.

I discovered that most of the reports in generation was lacking content. Ayada Azeez'sreport was one of the better one's along with Ann Ahynh'sreport. Ann Ahynh's report was creative but average in content. Ayada's report was good. An example is her newsgroups report when she discusses assertive and aggressive driving using Dr. James' testimony. A lot of the reports are better in Traffic Psychology, Psychology 459. They go in depth in their analysis of driving behavior.

I surfed through several other members of Generation five, six, and seven. I will be listing the other reports later on. These reports should be looked at too. The reason I picked Rudy Dolfo's Report was because of the content. Rudy gives you exactly what he saw and thought about driving and their behavior. You can tell he put in a lot of hard work into Psychology 459. It was as if I was with him while he did his report. I propose to advance the theory of road rage being connected to movies, television shows, and commercials by practicing safe driving when I drive. This theory is a new one that I think is original and that is why I picked the report. He also gives his own rating system for driving behavior, which I thought was also an unique aspect of the theory.
Most of the reports are creative for generation five. I liked looking at several reports, including a href="http://www.soc.hawaii.edu/leonj/leonj/409bf96/danhamam/409a/danhamamreport2.html>Dan Hamamoto's report</A>and his topical index.

I was impressed with the conciseness of Kathy's report Kathy Teruya's Report after reading a long report by Rudy Dolfo. Kathy's report is strong as she reports on what tailgating is like. She also is good in exploring real life examples using other past reports. The cartoon analysis is good. This report could be even stronger with more traditional research, such as some library studies about tailgating behavior to back up what the cartoons said. Kathy said that cartoons have an advantage over traditional methods of teaching because you can laugh at them and you can eventually recognize the behavior that is portrayed.

However, I came across Jennifer Kaneshiro's report.Jennifer Kaneshiro's Report This is my fourth choice. I thought about bypassing Jennifer Kaneshiro's report. However, upon further review I was impressed by her organization. Her links show that she spent a tremendous amount of work trying to do her research and crafting together her home page. If you take a look at an example of her analysis, you can tell what she is experiencing when she watches a Jack in the Box commercials. Her points are well organized. An example of a link that I liked was the link she provided to Dr. James traffic psychology page. The content about the various effects were there and there was a rating system. The points were also well lined out.

Rudy's reportis also very easy to understand. Rudy seems to like to write a lot as do I, so I am going to let you click on his report to discover what it is all about. He discusses home page creation. P.S. my generations report if double spaced would come out to 12 pages. Rose's report has frames that are easy to navigate and are well organized, as is her report. Rose Anne like other members in her generation, are going to discuss what it is like to create a web page in one of their reports. These are the reports of Generation five

Okay, I will start with generation three. The early generations had it rough because the internet was just developing. Generations one and two also had it really rough because they were using lynx and gopher. Amy Lamdiscusses art and aesthetic perceptions. If someone needs internet references to art, you may explore her links. Her reports are organized into her thoughts and reactions. It is like a diary of reactions. You can also discover what Hey cards are through Amy's directed reading report. Hey CardsThese are cards that are community and course focused.

Grant Muranakagets into driving personalities. Does my driving behavior affect others? Grant then gives links to other people's reports. He also says that it is stressful especially if one has limited access to a computer with a modem and has to access it on campus. Phoungdiscusses how having a tape recorder handy can help you change your driving behavior, based on Amy Lam's observations.

Naoyukisays that cyberspace is an extension of the media. He also has a cool outline of his report. I agree with Naoyuki's conclusion that cyberspace is going to continue to expand. Cyberspace, along with the generational online curriculum is expanding.David'sreport discusses the act of clicking. The internet is so big that you can spend hours and hours per day clicking and clicking on your favorite subjects. Asako Shinaga's report is about well what is cyberpsychology? You can find out by reading her report.

My first advice is to follow all directions. This is pertinent because you want to have a good report and not get lost. You also should not be put under pressure and end up in a rush job. Also I also advise students that they are going to be spending at least five hours a day doing work for this course. Do not take more than 12 credits if you are enrolling in this course, if at all possible. Or for those of you who are psychology majors, you might want to consider taking this course in the summer time. This course is also a seminar, and it is writing intensive. Therefore, it is understood that lots of work is involved in this course.

My report compared to my other classmates. Well at first when I started out, I noticed that my report sucked as far as content as explanations. As I developed my report, my report compared fairly well. As I got better in learning how to do designs for my home page, I got better and more creative, so now my home page is fairly comparable as far as design is concerned, although I think htat I could do more in terms of design. I noticed that my report is easy to read even though it is lengthy, and my report takes a short time to load up on a web browser, compared to some of my classmates. I also noticed that my text is easy to read, along with the background that I chose.

I think that looking at other peoples' reports is important. An individual needs to learn from others. As the internet develops we must all help each other learn what goes on in another persons mind. There are many ways that people process information. As the online curriculumn expands, then there will be a lot of exploring to do.
