Report 1 - Leslie-Ann Francis's(G5) "Cyberspace and mind:identifying some characteristics of virtual reality: virtual, alternate, or real?"

Why I chose this report:

I chose this report because although her home page was not an eye catcher, her report was very thorough and well informed. Cyberpsychology is an unexplored area for me, so the title itself caught my eye.

Steps that led me to this report:

I started browsing through an earlier generation because I wanted to see how Dr. James's syllabus has evolved. I chose Leslie's report because although her page was not an attention getter, her report is. Her report was thorough and insightful. It sounded like she not only did some thorough researching about the subject, she also put a lot of her own thoughts into it.

What this report is all about

Leslie's report is basically about the ideology of cyberpsychology and our relationship with the internet. In her report, she talks about the realness of the internet; is it virtual reality, or just an alternate reality? She starts her report with a brief summary the cybersapce ideology. In this section, she tries to make a parallel between the human mind and cyberspace, both allowing thoughts expressed through words, pictures, and thoughts. She also looked through Generation 4's response to the ideology of cyberspace and applied her own opinions into it.

My reactions to this report

I found this report to be fascinating because these are ideas that I've never explored before. I am not a computer buff, nor do I spend a lot of time surfing on the web, but it is interesting to read about the social and psychological factors that have arise since the use of the internet has gone public. After reading Leslie's article, I think I'm a little bit more aware of our relationship with the world of cyberspace.

Report 2 - Angie Inouye's (G7) "Acquiring Cyberspace Citizenship"

Why I chose this report:

I chose Angie's report because out of the other reports that I have read in Generation 7, her's was funny and honest (almost too honest!). It is also interesting to see the progress of a Psych 409 student throughout the semester. It was almost like peeking into someones journal and reading about their trials and tribulations in the cyberworld!

Steps that led me to this report:

I thought that I should progress my searches chronalogically throught the generations and when i came upon Generation 7's report 2, I was fascinated by the report itself and just how each student had to basically observe themselves in class and observe their own work.

What this report is all about

Angie's report is about the trials and tribulations of learning the internet. In this report, she collected evaluations of her projects throughout the semester, and bascially kept a log of her progress. She also included the opinions of the previous generation and her fellow classmate about the class and the workload. In the end, she concluded what she had learned by doing her report and by taking this class.

My reactions to this report

I thought her report was funny and entertaining. It was also engaging becuase at this moment, every student in Dr. James class is also going through the trials and tribulations of learning the internet on different levels. It was a relief to read that others also were having a hard time putting their site together and that I am not the only one having troubles!

Report 3-Cynthia D'Anthony (G10)"How music affects drivers: tuning in on driving"

Why I chose this report

I chose Cynthia's report because it her webpage was very nicely made and she was one of two students that did a report on music and driving in this generation. I found her report to be very informative (and long).

Steps that led me to this report:

I was looking through Generation 10's homepages and I stumbbled upon Cynthia's page. I thought her webpage was simple, yet at the same time there were little subtle things that made it look good (ie. using music notes as a background in her music and driving report)

What this report is all about

Cynthia's report is about the effects of music on driving. She wanted to know whether there are any effects on the driver's behavior (either causing them to drive too fast or too slow),or if it is just an excuse for their reckless driving. In her report, she included responses from previous generations and reports that were done on music and driving. She also included other research findings that she found while surfing the net. One interesting study that she found was called "Heavy metal, rap, and adolsecent behavior." It was a study about teenage behavior and their music preferences. From her report, she concluded that the effect of music is greatly determined by the traits of that individual.

My reactions to this report

I thought this was a really long report. At the same time, it was thoroughly informative and I agreed with her conclusion. Music does have an effect on me, but it would not be an excuse I'd use if I get caught for speeding!

Report 4 - George Penderson (G10) "Portrayals of Driving Behavior on TV: Good or Bad?"

Why I chose this report

I chose this report because it is simply a very interesting report. Geroge manage to incorporate humour and information into his report. It is a very good topic since he got to watch TV and analyze it!

Steps that led me to this report

When I was reading Cynthia's report, she recommended Georges report on television and driving. I was curious, so I decided to look through his homepage. I liked what I saw (especially the fish on his main page!), and I really liked the report.

What this report is all about

Geroges report is about the effect that television has on driving, and bad driving in particular. He included reports that were done on driving and television in the previous generations. The bulk of his report was on his observations of ten television programs (music videos videogames, and commercials included),their bad driving behaviors, and the level of influences that he thinks these programs would have on children and drivers. He didn't have a clear conclusion because he wasn't sure if bad driving has an effect on children and young viewers. He does think that there is a correlational effect between the amount of bad driving viewed and the implementation of bad driving behaviors.

My reactions to this report

I thought his report was very entertaining. I'm sure he had a lot of fun doing this project (as he stated in his conclusion,"My advice to future generations writing this report is to try and get started soon and watch a lot of TV as I found it hard to watch TV and study.") It was not a very informative report like Cynthia's, but it was short and to the point.
