The purpose of this report was to explore and learn about web sites involving religious futurists. One group was assigned to me, and the other group I discovered from the first page. World Future Society
The next page I found from this one was a page on the group called World Future Society. These two groups affiliate and the fee for this one is 35 dollars. Here are some other facts about this group.
No one knows exactly what will happen in
the future. But by considering what might happen, people can more
rationally decide on the sort of future that would be most
desirable and then work to achieve it.
Opportunity as well as danger lies ahead, so people need to make
farsighted decisions. The process of change is inevitable; it's
up to everyone to make sure that the change is constructive.
The World Future Society is an association of people interested in how social and technological developments are shaping the future. The Society was founded in 1966 and is chartered as a nonprofit educational and scientific organization in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
The Society strives to serve as a neutral clearinghouse for ideas about the future. Ideas about the future include forecasts, recommendations, and alternative scenarios. These ideas help people to anticipate what may happen in the next 5, 10, or more years ahead. When people can visualize a better future, then they can begin to create it.
Membership is open to anyone who would like to know more about what the future will hold. The Society includes 30,000 people in more than 80 countries--from Argentina to Zimbabwe. Members come from all walks of life. They include sociologists, scientists, corporate planners, educators, students, and retirees. They're thinking people who seek a better future for themselves and society.
The Society's program of local activities has grown to include local groups of people in more than 100 cities who share the same interest in the future. These local chapters give members a chance to meet other forward-looking people and to discuss various topics of the future.
Dues for membership in the World Future Society are $35 per year (in U.S. currency or its equivalent in other currency). Dues are the same throughout the world.
All World Future Society members receive:

Questions and Answers about web page o
1.Who will be the majority of religious followers in the upcoming millenium? (The age group) Why do you think so? Marilyn Ortal.
I feel personally that the next generation is slowly being weaned away from religion. This may not be so, but today I suspect already that most members in the WNRF and WFS are mostly older professors and professional people. I also think that older people in general are more concerned with where they are going after life, since they are more near the afterlife.
2.What do you think is the relevance to the future of religion on the net? Is /or will the net serve as a way to promote religion. Juliet Baptista
I think the net is and will be very relevant in the future. It is a great source for easy access in which individuals who are religiously affiliated can access and transmit information.
3.How do these people get their articles published on this site? What is the screening process? And needed Credentials? Jayson Nakasone
Credentials needed are that you are either a member or a significant individual in the religious community. The screening process most likely involves that the members of the board designate individuals to oversee the publishing of such articles.
4.Do you think these sites could become a future basis of Religion? Monica Chen
Yes I feel that it is possible that enough people access these sites they could turn into a place where people actually pray and worship god.
5.What is the purpose of the site? Tony Pun
This site is aimed at bringing together people who wish to explore and discuss the potentials of religion in the future.
6.Will technology change the future view of religion? Man, Wing Kim
Yes it definitely might. This is one subject that is discussed on this sight. The sight prides itself as a clearinghouse for ideas on how technology and religion can coexist in the future.
7.What is the main goal of this group? Cindy Hisley
The class was very attentive to the subject and asked me various questions in class. The subject of religion is relevant to many people. This topic is relevant to our study of the Internet in that it is studying how people live online and this is one aspect of the idea of Life on the screen that Sherry Turkle titles her book. The class needs to realize that we are studying all aspects of the Internet and that is why this subject of religion is relevant and why it has been presented.
Other students who have completed their reports dealing with Internet links have done a good job. One such is this page by Shela Korrf. She did her report on affective computing. Her report was thorough and she did a nice job at decorating the page. All her links were fine. Thats all you can really ask for, is good content, good links and good looks. Other students havent put their pages up yet, but when they do I will look.
What Id tell the next unlucky soul
For the next generation I do suggest that when and if you do write up your report for the oral you type it out the first time so you can just copy the info. There is a lot to be said and to type. Also do your oral report on the computer the next day after presenting it or even the same day. It will be a lot fresher in your mind that way. Dont procrastinate either. The Oral report is kind of fun because you get to read everyones questions about what they think and thought about the presentation. Make sure you give other presentators good questions.
