My Selection Number 1:  Dawn Stone-Webb (409a, G8)

Why This Report...

I picked this report because it was the first one that I browsed through.  The icon that she used on her home page caught my attention.  After looking at her reports, I saw one that discussed virtual relationships.  I thought that it would be interesting to read about people who engage in online relationships.  Her report also included topics such as fantasy versus reality and scamming online.  I thought that this information was interesting, since I'm not very familiar with virtual relationships.

The Steps That Led Me Here...

My total browsing time was around 2 hours.  I concentrated on the generations that were the most recent.  In addition, I thought that the newer generations would be more informattive.

My Summary...

Dawn's report on virtual relationships discussed expressions of the true self.  Information was obtained from discussion groups on the topic.  She stated that there is no physical interaction, but many emotions are prevalent.  Dawn believed that online communication allows one to express themselves freely without condemnation.  She also goes on to say that the fact that these individuals remain anonymous gives them the strength to say how they feel without embarrassment.  Scamming online is when deception occurs.  The report shows that many people lie online, and one may not realize it.  A question is raised concerning whether or not one can handle it.  She suggests that meeting the person face-to-face is much more safe than online as far as falling in love goes.
Online communication is considered a virtual community.  This means that the people using the internet share a common history and value system.  Virtual settlement is defined is a place where people meet and gather regularly.  Interactivity is the key in which computer mediated communication (CMC)) takes place.  The author of the report also gives examples of who, what, why, and how we meet online.  In all, Dawn enjoyed doing the research, and gained much enlightenment from it.    She suggests to get to know everything one can about the computer, and concepts are much easier to grasp.

My Reaction & Involvement...

I really enjoyed reading Dawn's report on virtual relationships.  I found this to be a very interesting topic.  She fulfilled many aspects of the topic, thus, resulting in a greater understanding of it.  I liked how she broke up each section, and headings were given for them.  This made it easy to understand and I knew what to expect.  I agreed with about everything that she had to say.  I don't think that romantic relationships should be created online.  I think it's very dangerous and risky.  This is because scamming online takes place very often.  I learned a new term due to the report, scamming online.  One weakness I noticed was that of links.  She didn't have links that could be of resourceful to the reader.  She probably could have put in some links so the reader wouldn't have to do research on their own.  I think it's possible for me to complete a report similar to that of Dawn's.  It gives me hope, and I know I can be successful too.

In Comparison to Others...

Dawn's report was informative, but there were no icons.  Many of the other reports displayed icons, making it colorful and eye catching.  Dawn's classmates had content that was different from hers.  Many included flaming, and had links to other resources.  Dawn probably could have done a little better in displaying her report, but the content was very valuable.

My Selection Number 2: Rudy Dulfo (409bs97)

Why This Report...

I chose Rudy's report because I wanted to find out a little more information on Web Architecture.  His icons also caught my eye.  There are frogs with their tongues sticking out to separate each section of his report.  I thought this was a nice idea, because the tongue is similar to a line to show sections.  His report is also very thorough and informative as to web designing.

The Steps That Led Me Here...

I didn't take very long with this search.  His report was one of the first that I browsed through.  My mind was set on Rudy's report, but I searched a little more and finally came back to his.  I actually knew I wanted to read a report on web architecture to expand my knowledge in creating a web site.

My Summary...

Mr. Dolfo's report was broken up into sections.  It started off with an introduction, then it went into his personal reaction.  He also included a part on the psychological aspects to web design, what it's like to become a web designer before and after, and a section on articles that can help with web design.
His report offers a link to Glover, who he suggests as a site to visit if one is planning a design for a web site.  This site tells you about the do's and don'ts of making a home page.  Mr. Dolfo also gave his thoughts on various ideas.  He displayed a link to architect which was designed by Dr. James.  The importance of links were also noted here.  Links are for added support or confirmation regarding your page.  Credentials are also very important when viewing different web sites.
Rudy also wrote about his enjoyment in taking the class and how he has learned so much.  He states that in the beginning of the course confusion arose, but after passing that point, everything becomes clear and satisfaction in designing a web site sets in.
Lastly, Rudy Dolfo gives a link to Dr. James article.  He also has five links at the end of his report that tied in with his report, and give specific information on designing web sites.

My Reaction & Involvement...

I was impressed with Mr. Dolfo's report.  He has very interesting points within the report.  I like the way in which the report was formatted and easy to read.  By breaking the report up into sections and providing links to various sources makes the report very user friendly.  I think I could complete a report that is just like his.  It doesn't seem so difficult anymore.

In Comparison to Others...

Rudy Dolfo's report was one of the best amongst his classmates.  Everyone in his generation did a fine job on their reports.  I liked his use of links in comparison to those in his class.  The icons within the report made it a little more interesting and actually helpful.  They were not too big, and didn't distract the reader.

My Selection Number 3: Reid Nakamitsu (459f97)

Why This Report...

Mr. Nakamitsu's report interested me due to the title concerning children.  I wanted to know about self-witnessing and what it was.  I chose this report because it was very simple and the sections were clearly defined.

The Steps That Led Me Here...

It did not take me long in deciding that Reid Nakamitsu's  report would be one of my selections. I browsed for approximately five minutes, and came back to Reid's report.  The topic is what really led me there.

My Summary...

Mr. Nakamitsu's report started off with six links that connected to each section of the report.  There was an introduction, an explanation of self-witnessing, his experience of self-witnessing, and teaching children self-witnessing.  The report ended with his recommendations for the future and and a conclusion.  Self-witnessing is a technique that can be used by anyone.  It's a method in which the driver keeps track of his/her feelings, thoughts, and actions toward driving or drivers.  Reid gives two examples of methods used to keep track of these things, such as tape recorders or a notepad.  He than went into his experiences with self-witnessing.  He used a tape recorder and came to realize his driving weaknesses and attitude toward other drivers.
Reid previewed a report on how to train a child in self-witnessing by Cara Lucey.  He has a link that connects to her report.  She has many helpful recommendations.  Mr. Nakamitsu chose an 8 year old neighbor to study self-witnessing.  He got to know the child's feelings about other cars and drivers, and why he wore a seatbelt.  Lastly, Reid suggested the importance of teaching children and adults of healthy driving.  He learned many things about his driving and drivers from self-witnessing.

My Reaction & Involvement...

Mr. Nakamitsu's report was very informative and he used many resources to back up his data.  The various links made the report even better.  I agree with self-witnessing.  I think it allows the driver to become aware of what he/she is doing.  By beginning to teach children at a young age the skills of healthy driving, the roads will be a lot safer.  I have much confidence in my self, and I think I could complete a similar report to that of Reid's.

In Comparison to Others...

Mr. Nakamitsu's report had content that was new and interesting.  Not many of his classmates decided to write about self-witnessing, therefore, not much comparison could be made.  I liked the simplicity of his report and it wasn't busy like some of his classmates.  Overall, I would say that Reid Nakamitsu's report was on the high end of the scale in regard to others in that same generation.

My Selection Number 4: Heidi Easley (459f96)

Why This Report...

I chose this report by Heidi Easley due to the title.  I always wanted to have a makeover, but I have never heard of a driving personality makeover.  This is the reason this report caught my attention.  Her home page was simple and easy to read.  The article wasn't lengthy, so I thought it would be straight forward and to the point.  That's what I like.  I was also interested to see if I needed a makeover.

The Steps That Led Me Here...

Finding my last selection did not take long but deciding whether or not to actually select it did take me a while. I spent about 30 minutes on the different reports, eventually narrowing down to Ms. Easley's report.  I couldn't decide whether or not to use the report on cartoons or driving personality makeover.  They were both short, but I wasn't too sure what the meaning behind the report was.

My Summary...

The driving personality makeover entails a four step cycle which involves the following:  learning to become aware of your behavioral shortcomings, identify these behaviors, set up a strategy for improving these behaviors, and practice these strategies until the behavior has been modified.  There was a link to Ron Agarpao who gives the definition of a driving personality makeover.  Ms. Easley says that the instillment of these four steps can enhance and strengthen ones life, community, and environment.

My Reaction & Involvement...

This was a short report that contained valuable information.  I think these four steps can help with many things besides driving.  The report was insightful and can be of much use to everyone.  I'm sure I could complete a similar report to that of Ms. Easley's.

My Comparisons...

In comparison to the other reports, Ms. Easley's report was short and sweet. Although the presentation format could have been a little better, the originality and simplicity lead me to choose this report as one of my favorites. The use of icons would probably allow for more creativity and excitement.

Opinions of My Classmates...

Everyone did a wonderful job on their reports.  I like the wide variety of choices, and their opinions of it.  Many of my classmates were very creative, and it gave me ideas for future projects.

Suggestions For Future Generations...

I would definitely suggest getting one's work and assignments done on time.  DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!  It's a lot of work, but don't give up.  Play around with the computer, and get to know the different functions.  It will make things a lot easier.
