Report 4: "Web Architecture: Designing Your Own Page"
By Carolyn Agmata, G11, Cyber Psychology
Other G12 Generation Reports and what I Think
My Suggestions to Others doing This Report
Report 1: "Gender Differences in Driving. Is There a Difference?" By Craig Kawamura, G10, Cyber Psychology
I chose this report because I know the person who wrote it. I knew Craig Kawamura from high school and from sports. After high school I occasionally saw him walking around campus, but I never knew that he had taken any psychology classes.
I found this report by checking out all the Generations starting with G10. I figured that the closer to my generation I was, the more I could relate their topics to ones that I wanted to write about. When I looked at the class list of names, I noticed Craigās name. I then had the curiosity of looking at his web page. I enjoyed what I saw, and was interested in his topic that I chose.
This report was a study done to see what the public had to say about gender differences in driving. This report had a lot of time and effort put into it because of the types of surveys that were done. Mr. Kawamura Composed a survey to formulate a public opinion on stereotypes linked to gender and driving. He did his survey via e-mail and his population was of 8 males and 8 females. The findings were that men were seen as aggressive by both males and females and women were seen as passive. Within this report he also placed links to newsgroups and his summaries of those findings.
I thought that this report was done rather well and the topic was discussed thoroughly. I also found that his research was done very well with the combinations of surveys, newsgroups, and journal articles. His finding were what I had expected because of the strong stereotypes that people have towards gender differences in people. If this research were done on a broader scale like with samples from all over the world, I would be cvery surprised if there was a difference in findings.
Of the other generation 10 web sites that I saw, I thought that this was the best because of the dog that raced across the top of the screen on the home page. I thought that the moving picture was a great concept that really was an eye catcher to captivate the reader. After seeing that, I was interested to see what the rest of the web site had to offer just out of curiosity.
Report 2: "Definition of Traffic Psychology: How do I Stack Up?" By Claudine Dela Cruz, G8, Traffic Psychology
I chose this report because I noticed the name of the person that wrote it. I did a loan for Claudine Dela Cruz at my job. When I saw her name as someone that has a web page, I thought that I had to take a look at it.
I found this report while I was looking at Craig Kawamuraās generation report. I noticed that he had referenced this report on his web page. This made me want to go to G8 web site to see if this was the same person that I knew. It was, so I ended up looking at her web sight.
This report is about the definition of Traffic Psychology as seen by Ms. Dela Cruz as well as 5 other students. After she quotes other students answers, she gives a short analysis of the quote. She also gives her personal experiences into the matter. One is her experience as a driver. The next is as a Pedestrian. Lastly she gives her experience as a passenger. She then summarizes her paper by giving some advice to readers of this paper in relation to traffic psychology.
I thought that this report was done very well because I not only saw the authorās definition of the topic, but also other peopleās ideas about it as well. In other reports the definition that the author gives is so biased and does not take into consideration other alternative answers to the question at hand. I enjoyed the format of this report and the way that her own ideas were incorporated into the paper without being shown as imposing to the reader. The other thing that I enjoyed about this paper is that she brought into it an emotional stance on how the way a person drives is felt not only by the people in the car but all other drivers around the car.
The rest of the reports done in Generation 8 were done very well. The only thing that I have to comment on is the lack of topics that these students had to choose from. Although the students could have made up their own topic, it is very hard to think up a topic to write on especially if it is the first report that a person is doing. This makes me glad to know that I am a part of generation 12 where we have a broad range of topics to choose from.
Report 3: "Collecting Data On Driver Communication: How Drivers Communicate" By Jennifer Lee, G10, Cyber-Psychology
I chose this report because I knew the person who wrote it. I went to high school with Jennifer Lee. When I saw her name on the G10 web sight I knew that I had to take a peek at her web page. I was very impressed with the amount of color that she used on her web page and her eye catching captions that she used. I especially liked the floral prints that are found at the top of her web site.
This report was found when I was looking at the rest of the web sights for G10. After I looked at Craig Kawamuraās web sight, I went back to the main page and saw Ms. Leeās name. I then clicked on her name and I was impressed with her eye-catching graphics on her web site.
This report is about how drivers communicate. There are 4 situations that are her personal experiences in how communication can play a vital role in driving. These situations range in dates from November 12, 1998- November 20, 1998. Within these situations there are different communication forms represented. First there is "Honking loudly and for a length of time, sudden lane changing, and sticking middle finger." Secondly there is "Waving and honking." The last communication form is "Swearing and sticking middle finger." She then posts links to other people from prior generations that have done this same report.
I thought that this report was well done and had a lot of effort put into it. She obtained data, drew her conclusions, and compared her findings to those of previous generations. The only thing that I didnāt like was that she had not observed her own communication forms as a driver. In all situations she was either a passenger or a observer. Within her report she does not make reference to other reports that have used personal driving experiences to observe communication forms. This topic was not apparent in her suggestions to future generations.
5. Comparison to G10
The web site of Ms. Lee was very colorful and very well done. I enjoyed the way the colors flowed together instead of clashing with each other. The rest of the G10 web pages were also done very well. I liked the different types of pictures and ways that the home pages were done. There were no two home pages that were alike, which made for delightful browsing.
Report 4: "Web Architecture: Designing Your Own Page" By Carolyn Agmata, G11, Cyber Psychology
The reason that this report was chosen was because I had gone to high school with the author. I was involved with Ms. Agmata as a student government officer. Another reason that I chose to go in depth with this report is because of the topic that was being discussed. Web architecture is something that I donāt know how to do. I have no creative bone in my body and this report looked like a good way to get some ideas.
This report was found while mining through the web pages of past students taking this class. I first started with generation 11 and stumbled upon Ms. Agmataās report. I first obtained access to the G11 web page and scrolled to the page of peopleās names that had taken the class. This is when I saw Ms. Agmataās name and I then proceeded to read her report.
This report is filled with suggestions on how not to make a web page and how to improve a web page. There are some suggestions from other students about what makes a home page desirable to look at. This report is also filled with quotes for other web sites on the doās and donāts of making a web page. There are also links to other web sites that give some suggestions as to how the make a web page more appealing to other people who are searching the Internet.
I was disappointed with his report. I thought that I could gets some helpful hints on how to make my web page better and all I obtained was a lesson on how not to make a web page. I thought that this paper had to many quotes and not enough analysis as to the authorās insight of the topic. If this report had some helpful hints on the types of themes that could be used on a web page or some tricks on how the optimize the space that a web page has, then it would have been a little better. The only thing that I liked was that there were links to other web sites that I could obtain the information that I had been searching for.
Other G11 sites were done very well. All of the topics that were discussed are ones that generation 12 can also work on. I also enjoyed the different types of icons and pictures that the other web pages had.
My Suggestions to Others Doing This Report
Start early!!! Donāt wait until the last minute. It doesnāt take that long once you start, but the time sure does fly by. I thought that making the links and the graphics would be the worse part of the experience, but I turned out to be the most fun. In making your web page, use Microsoft Word and take advantage of the paper clip thing. It can help out a lot.
