CHERILY OKAZAKI'S REPORT on TAILGATING

The second site I found is that of Ms. Okazaki's report on TAILGATING. Just by reading her report, you will learn that tailgating is used to communicate to other drivers, but in a bad way. She learned from past generations that an individual tailgates another driver to push them until they go faster, which then tell us that tailgating someone conveys "go faster." One student said that drivers tailgate other drivers as a revenge, which is another meaning that tailgating is trying to communicate. But, sometimes tailgating is just a way for us to keep up with the flow of traffic, as another student mentioned. In that context, tailgating doesn't really mean anything or does it? I guess, it's telling the other driver that "No offense, but let's maintain this distance between us so other cars won't cut in front of us" or this is what Dr. James calls "Lane Integrity."
