Part 10: Summaries for 18 Links

by Jenica Guerra

This page is an introduction to traffic psychology. A few of the things it includes is a definition of traffic psychology, why it is needed, and how it works. The purpose of this page is to make its readers aware of the facts of the road (e.g. the number of deaths a year due to car crashes) and to make known that traffic psychology is needed. The readers then may become more aware of their driving personality, thus, hopefully, causing their awareness to better them. I think this page is very informative. It gives a good introduction to traffic psychology. It is easy for an educated person to read it and get an overview of what traffic psychology is and why it is needed.

The knowledge to be gained from the "traffic psychology" page will allow me to be less bias and more open-minded. Thus, I can start my walk to overcome self-righteous indignation. I believe knowledge is good and this page will give me a little more knowledge.

I was very happy to see this page and that is why I clicked on it first. I knew I would be coming to this page many times. I knew it would help me in my class and in life. I was not intimidated by this page but rather intrigued by all the digestible information.

This "Dr. Driving Says..." page contains facts and figures for automobile collisions and it has many links which explain the problem with driving personalities and remedies to lessen the amount of car crashes. The purpose of this page is to make readers aware, through facts, of the danger of driving. The purpose is to interest readers to the point that they will explore material on driving. I think the page is good, it fulfills its purpose. It makes people think. The facts and figures show people the reality of the problem and this may prompt them to either make a change within themselves or at least broaden their driving knowledge.

I really liked this page because it had information I could put to use right away. The facts and figures were very interesting and broadened my knowledge, and in turn I will use the knowledge to enlighten someone else or I may just use it for casual talk. Nevertheless, I feel like a smarter person knowing these things. Just knowing these things will also give me more incentive to change.

The "Dr. Driving Says..." page will also help me continue my quest for a better self. I am constantly trying to pursue this goal but I get lost many times along the way. Maybe this will aid my journey to be a better person overall and on the road.

The student generational reports page gives a description of the different types of reports done by former students of Dr. James. The purpose is to clarify the different types of reports to make it easier for a net surfer to choose what to view. I find the page useful because it clarifies the different links available on the home page. It helps to cut down the search time so one can find things more easily.

I was very excited when I looked at the page because I knew I would be using it a lot. I liked it's clarity and usefulness. I knew that for my reports, I would not have to search through tons of information in order to find what I needed from the generational curriculum. I foresaw that this page would cut down on my research time twofold.

"Indexes for this site" page contains links to locations in the site. It also contains various modes one can use to find a particular subject. The purpose of this page is to make a selective search easier and to give a broad overview of all the subjects in the site. This page is very helpful because of its systematic organization of topics. It allows one to go straight to a particular topic.

Although this page is very helpful, it is also very long. I was quite intimidated by the page's length. I think that one has to be looking for something in particular in order to make use of this site. One can not just go to these indexes and browse through looking for something interesting. These indexes are serious stuff!!

The cyberpsychology page talks about technology and its growth in the world. It defines computer technology's many aspects. The purpose of the page is to familiarize one with the subject of, growing interaction done between computers, online interaction. The page is useful and gets one on the way to overcoming technophobia through familiarization.

I was scared of this page because I am very technophobic but perhaps I will soon overcome my technophobia. This page can help me do just that by familiarizing me with the computer and what it is capable of. Perhaps soon, I will be aware of what I can accomplish with my newly learned information.

"Social psychology of home page architecture"contains a big description of home pages and their functions. It also gives useful information to keep in mind while creating a home page, like the appropriate length of a home page and what complexity of icons is appropriate. The links' purpose is to diminish barriers against creating home pages by having an example of a man who loves working on his home page and wants to share the joy of it with others. It gives the readers an inside perspective of a net user rather then an negative outside view. The link goes on to describe different types of home pages and their functions. The page goes from simple to complex and understandably so. I found the page as interesting. I sympathized with the situation of the man who wanted to diminish negative views towards what he loved doing, working on his home page. It gave me a different perspective so I could empathize. I then became more interested and read on to find out what the big hype was about a home page. Very interesting!

The search page contains a box to type in words, names, or concepts which one wants to search for. The purpose is to allow users to narrow their search down by using words, names, or concepts to find relevant material. It is useful because it helps the user to go straight to pertinent information.

I was happy to find this page because I need all the help I can get. I mean, all you have to do is type in a name, word, or concept and the computer does all the searching. The one thing I was wondering though, was if this search engine searched only through the title field or through the whole document. If it only searched the title field, the search engine would not do me any good.

The University of Hawaii page contains information about itself. It is a table of contents to information regarding the University. Its wide diversity ranges from information technology to leisure activities. It also contains further links to specific sites. The purpose of this page is to make University information readily available. Instead of looking through the phone book, calling number after number, and getting tons of information, one can go online and take in information at ones own rate. It is also useful for people who want to know about the University in general. The page is quite useful. It allows own to go at ones own pace and locate information interesting to oneself. The further links allow the user to gather more information on any one subject.

I will use this page in the future to register to the University and I would also use it to gather information for continuing education. I am going to graduate soon so I have been going to different departments and inquiring about requirements for graduate and continuing education school. The University of Hawaii page will be very useful, it will cut down on my time spent looking for all types of information I want. I can't wait to use it!

The page on information about the site contains a broad overview of the different topics in the site(i.e. traffic psychology, cyber psychology, and spiritual psychology). The overview discusses what you can find in the different areas(e.g. Articles, reports, and resources). The purpose is to make a user aware of what to expect from Dr. Leon James' home page. I think the page is good because it allows users to decide whether or not they want to further explore. It helps the users to decipher if the information in interesting to them. It also prepares interested users for what to expect from the home page so they won't become overwhelmed or get lost.

After viewing this page, I personally knew exactly what I wanted to explore, the traffic psychology page. This page described the topic as pages containing confessions about how people behave on the road, which (the confessions) are classified and analyzed. I was really interested in what confessions people had and how they were analyzed. I will admit, I was quite skeptical that they were analyzed by students, but I got over that. Students have fresh insight, a new perspective, they are not so set in their ways. After I look at the traffic psychology aspect of the site, I will go back to the "information about the site" page and choose my next area of interest.

Diane's home page contains information about herself, the University of Hawaii, different search engines, and things that may be helpful to novice computer users. Her page contains links to many sites which students of Dr. James can definitely find useful. Its purpose is to give information to those who are new to being online and to provide tips that may help the novice. Her page is helpful to people who have an affiliation with the University of Hawaii. It is also useful to novices on the Internet by providing search engine analyses. I think it is aimed toward the UH goer.

At first I did not think that I, personally, would ever use this page until I saw the link to different search engines. I was really excited to see this. I was not aware there were so many search engines and what there different strengths were. Now anytime I want I can go to her page, choose a search engine, and go straight to it.

Dr. James's address page gives his e-mail address, information about him, and his voice mail. The page was designed so anyone could contact him to discuss topics relevant to his home page. The page is good because a person wishing to respond can do so easily through the information given or by just clicking on to his message link.

I probably will not use the address page this summer. However, after summer school, at least I know I can contact him to talk about anything I want. If I have questions I can contact him and if I want material I can ask him where to get it from. So if it will be useful for me after I finish this class, it is probably currently useful for people browsing through his home page.

The Swedenborg page is about Emanuel Swedenborg and his philosophies and theories. The page contains links to his works and references to articles related to him or his works. Links to various other Swedenborg home pages are also given. The purpose of this page is to show viewers the big influence Swedenborg had and to provide links to more information regarding him. The page is interesting. The abundant amount of information shows how much influence he had and still has. The links are well organized onto the one home page.

Although the page is well organized, I was still overwhelmed by it. It contains so many links and so many separate sections which separate the links. I understand that the page is probably condensed enough as can be but I was still taken aback looking at all the information. I suppose once I have time to leisurely look at Swedenborg's material, I will more appreciate his home page.

The tour page contains links to reports done by students of Dr. James. The three tours aim at different subjects. The first tour contains links about cyber psychology and traffic psychology, the second has links to topics of daily round archives, and the last has links based on nutrition and exercise. The purpose of this tour page is basically the same as the generational curriculum page with the exception of the last tour. The purpose is to provide an easy way to view reports done by various generations. The page confused me at first until I explored various links and realized what it was about. I then found it was useful, in that one can easily choose a certain topic by a certain generation.

Although I found the tour page useful, I was confused at the tour page on nutrition and exercise. Why was it there? Of what significance was it? It seemed more like a personal home page then anything else. I am interested in being healthier so I guess I may look at it someday but it seemed slightly out of place compared to all the other pages throughout the Dr. James' whole traffic psychology home page.

The spiritual psychology page is a glossary for information pertaining to Swedenborg and his works, which deal primarily with spiritual psychology. It tells about Swedenborg and how he incorporated spirituality with science. It also tells about his beliefs. The page discussed different views of spiritual psychology which both challenge and complement his beliefs. The purpose of the page is to introduce a different type of psychology which is not taught in traditional psychology courses. Another purpose is to broaden one's views and to show that unconventional ideas are not bad ideas.

I found this page very long but very interesting. I liked it a lot, it excited my thoughts and feelings. I have never hear of this "spiritual psychology" before and I was very interested to read about it. I did not get to thoroughly read through every article but I read enough to get the gist of it. The thought of spirituality and science together is a new concept for me and it really made me think and ponder the spiritual psychology point of view. It gave me a new perspective!

The DRA page describes what DRA (daily round archives) is and how it came to be online. Daily round archives, analyses of them and related articles are provided through links. The page exists for those unfamiliar with the DRA. I found the page useful because I had no idea what DRAs were. It provided a clear explanation of what it is, why it is, and how to access actual DRAs and articles relating to them.

In class, Dr. James would always talk of DRA's and I would feel so lost, I had no idea what they were. I did not want to sound stupid asking, and I did not want to get cut down for not knowing, so I did not ask. One can imagine how relieved I was to find a page which explains exactly what they are. I was ecstatic and I felt as though a burden was lifted off my shoulders.

The page on articles and books lists various articles and books along with a short description of each. Many, if not all, items are from the cyberspace occupied by the home page. The purpose of the page is to provide a fast route to specific articles and books. This is very useful since one can go directly to a wanted location without having to surf through so many links.

Wow, another resource I can go to when I am doing reports for class! What a treat! I was happy to find yet another place to help me make sense of this whole fiasco with tons of links. Now if I want to look up material covering a certain subject, I could do so. All I would have to do is to go to this page and browse through the material.

The text only page contains the same information as the other home page. The only difference is that the text only page contains only text and no graphics. The page exists for people who are used to reading in text without graphics (Graphics were not available at one time.) and for people who just want to read in text only. This page is useful for those who prefer text only pages by providing the option to choose.

I was happy to find this page because many times I go to pages with graphics and it takes forever for the page to come up. At least now, if I want, I do not have to deal with the waiting. I just have to go to the text only section and "whoalla," the images and the waiting have vanished forever!
