"I wish people would not rubberneck, they are causing a traffic jam!"
Inspired by Cherilyn Okazaki.

This cartoon shows a car driver rubbernecking to look at an accident and a big truck behind it getting mad. The person in the truck is mad because the person in front is rubbernecking and is slowing down traffic. The next part of the cartoon shows the person in the truck rubbernecking and holding up traffic. This cartoon is funny because of the irony of the situation. The person who got mad at the first rubbernecker did the exact same thing.
The significance of this cartoon is that traffic jams are frustrating for almost everybody and that rubbernecking significantly increases the traffic. The underlying message of this cartoon is that although many people get mad at people who rubberneck for slowling down traffic, basically everyone does it. Each of us has to do our part and stop rubbernecking in order for everyone to be happy. The traffic would decrease and people would not get so upset at rubberneckers. Maybe everyone should keep in mind that by rubbernecking, an accident could be caused because driving concentration is decreased in order to concentrate on the event that induced the rubbernecking.
Modeling is one way to explain this behavior of "monkey see monkey do." The driver sees someone rubbernecking and although it is upsetting and it slows down traffic, the driver, who was upset at the rubbernecker, performs the same action. The driver rubbernecks as well. Maybe if we were more conscious of our actions and if we think about our reasons for our actions, we could all be on the way to happier driving experiences (see my report on self-witnessing).
