Example 9: Protege commercial

Identification:

Day:
Thursday
Date:
July 17, 1997
Time:
6:03pm
Channel:
5, K-five
Type:
Car commercial

Description of Characters:

This is a one minute commercial, advertising the Protege car. Two types of cars : Main one is a black protege, and others are white and unknown. Black protege is showing agility and good easy, handling. The car is showing this by dodging in and out of the white cars trying to block the protege's way.

Description of Bad Driving

  • Weaving in and out of other cars.
  • Protege is speeding and trying to show good maneuvering and agility.
  • Influence Others?:

This may influence children or other drivers who are thinking of purchasing a new automobile. This commercial may let people think this is truly how the car works. If you analyzed this commercial you would notice that there is only one black car (the cool one) and the rest are white (the junk ones). This conception is a little opposite from what's the truth. This may influence many people to think black is cool and it looks better on the road, especially when you are able to speed and weave in and out of others with ease. Which I hope everyone knows is very dangerous!

    Influence Me?:

If I really needed a new car and saw a commercial like this one, I would be convinced to at least go and check it out. This can be very influencing, I would want a car that can do the things like portrayed-not actually thinking of the editing and professional driving behind the wheel. I do notice I do drive this way sometimes-subconsciously. I don't realize the actually dangers I put myself and others in. Now that I analyzed these measures, I will definitely try to do a driving make-over and the first thing I would work on is the speeding aspects of my driving.
