Introduction for report 1: Driving Behaviors on TV

My first report talks about the portrayals of driving behavior on TV-is it good or bad? Well most people do not observe and analyze what is on TV, but if you were to do a report on it, (like me) you would realize that many things shown on TV are of bad influence. I broke up my ten examples into four different types: 1) Cartoons, 2) TV Series, 3) Commercials, and 4) Movies. Each example will be broken up into five different parts: identification of the observation (day, date, time, channel, and type of program), a brief description of the characters, a specific description of the bad driving behavior, how it may influence others, and how it may influence me. After viewing my examples, I think you will get a clear conception of the different driving behaviors and realize the negativity it frequently portrays on TV.

Materials and Methods

The most important thing you need to do this report is a television. Secondly you will need some type of recording device-a tape recorder or a pen and paper. After having these materials you are ready to begin. When I first got this assignment I thought this would be really easy and fun-especially because my homework was to watch TV. Then as the dead line was coming about I noticed I haven't been able to watch TV as much as I used to, I had to work twice as much and the rest of the time I had to go on the computer and try to figure things out. After procrastinating, I finally found my first example, I was so excited. After finding my first one the other nine weren't to hard to find. In fact, there are so many out there, I didn't realize it until I actually had to do this project.

Examples 1-10

Cartoons:

  • The Simpsons
  • Dragon
  • Goof Troop
  • Tiny Toon Adventures
  • TV Series:

  • Silk Stalkings
  • Magnum PI
  • Tarzan
  • Commercials:

  • Jack in the Box
  • Protege
  • Movies:

  • The Chase
  • Future Generations:

Before doing this report, I didn't realize all the negativity TV portrays about driving. Now that I am more aware of this issue, every time I turn the television on, I tend to pick out all the bad driving examples (sensitizing affect). After writing out my report I'm glad to see it on-line, now everyone will be able to read it, comment on it, and even add to the examples-there are millions. I feel the on-line communications is the new-wave of the future, so I'm hoping to see these examples passed on to schools, especially elementary. This kind of on-line communications can also be incorporated into CARR (Children Against Road Rage), or even have this available to driver education courses. This may encourage teachers, parents, and children to become more aware of the differences between the falseness portrayed on TV and the realities of their lives.
