(PSYCHOTOPICAL PHASES GRAPHICALLY INDEXED) Swedenborg, in Heaven and Hell (17), describes the process of christian rebirth as "turning". People are born facing North, spiritually (see: "inherited evil" of selfishness in natural mind). Phase alpha, or "reformation", is complete when the person is turned "W", i.e. "shuns evils as barbarism (see: MORALITY). Phase beta is completed when the person faces "S", i.e. "shuns evils as sins". (see: SPIRITUALITY). Phase gamma is completed after death in other world.

The accompanying graphic representation summarizes the description of the threefold self as given in Swedenborg's writings. After studying it for a few minutes, and committing it to memory (to some extent), you may consider the following points regarding the concept of "influx".
The universal influx of life's operation is God's own will, intellect, and power with which all life's motion and states are created, maintained, and altered in accordance with His ineffable purposes.
God's purposes, to some extent, have been revealed to the human race on our natural earth through religious revelations to individuals who then told others and thus established religions and laws of social behavior. An individual here is thus born into a religion and is educated by others. Afterwards, the mature indicidual continues to adhere to family religion or rejects it and espouses other views and rules of living.

("PSEUDO-NATURAL" in appearance) & ABSTRACT THOUGHTS & REASONINGS &

There is thus individual freedom along with influx. However the area of freedom
is different in each of the three worlds. In the natural world, the area of freedom is in
the organic functions of the natural self (memory-knowledges from sensory input and
material reasonings with them). There is no other freedom in the natural world, though we
have the hallucination that the thoughts and abstract reasoning we're aware of are
our very own. We would indeed be surprised to learn (and might incline to disbelieve) that
we are indeed conscious of some abstract thought but these are not
thought by the "me" we know! Instead,
these abstract thoughts that our consciousness is aware of enters by influx into our
imagination. In other words, others in the spirit world are thinking those thoughts which
then enter into our imagination where we can percieve their natural analogy or
"image".
The accompanying graphic diagram shows the three areas of freedom. The natural self's
freedom is in the area of material reasonings, as we know ourself in our daily living
activities and settings. Thus we can move our bodies in freedom in accordance with
whatever image or memory we feel like satisfying of pursuing. These are the external or
C-level freedoms. We are at liberty to think and choose whatever material ideas or
pursuits we can memorize of construct.
We are also aware of non-material or rational ideas as when we see the difference between
a contradiction and a paradox, or when we build graphic models of the threefold self, or
when we intintively decide on right/wrong or good/evil. These rational ideas have natural
analogs by which we are aware of them, but they themselves are not int he natural world
but in the spiritual world. The natural self can thus become aware of rational ideas and
thus understand truths and good and evil, but has no control over these as they exist in
the spiritual and celestial worlds only. Hence the sphere of freedom to the natural self
is restricted to thinking material thouhts which are local and external images of rational
thoughts.
The sphere of freedom of the spiritual self is in thinking and reasoning with rational
ideas, and the sphere of freedom of the heavenly or infernal self is in choosing the
affections and loves implanted within their innate strivings.
There is thus a natural freedom inour material thoughts and reasonings by which we can
build the morality of our character. For example, as spiritual ideas of truths or
falsehood stream into the brain from the spiritual self's environment, their analog in
material imaginations makes their presence conscious to us in the natural world. Thus, we
in the natural world become conscious of our spiritual self though we can't control that
self's activities in the spirit world. This awareness gives us the means to build our
character since we can choose in freedom to alter the direction of our spiritual self.
