Road Rage: Who's To Blame??? |
Subject: Re: Road rage

it is apparent from this that most people driving are irritated by slow and insensitive drivers who hog the left lane, and NOT speeders.
"...were darting in and out of traffic..." sounds more like both of them were speeding because they couldn't get there fast enough
Clearly, this person is expressing his/her reactions on why road rage is happening today. From What I understand, this person basically blames every driver on why there is road rage. I do agree with what this person is saying that all of us contributes to road rage one way or the other because we all are users of the road. I do agree with this person that all of us speeds at times because we are all in a hurry to go someplace and we as drivers wants to get to where we are going right away. Road Rage happens mainly because of the selfishness we have when we drive because we want it our way every time.
Police Tactics On Road Rage |

I think you should make a national law that if you are caught under the influence of alcohol while driving the police should call a tow truck to come get the car to take it to the junk yard. The reason for this would be to prevent harm to their self or someone else driving.
The next big issue is the speed limit with people not obeying it . I think that
is causing to many wrecks. They should give $500 tickets out to
speeders
Also another problem is road rage to me,any people should get it. The state
should post a number to call for road rage and if a police see some one with
road rage they should put them over and talk to them ask them whats wrong, then
ticket them.Ý [Ryan Books ]
Mr. Brooks clearly expresses his ideas and thoughts about certain situations that happen on the road. I do agree in Mr. Brooks idea that if a person is caught driving under the influence of alcohol, police should call a tow truck to take the person's car to the impound yard or to the junk yard. This may in fact help to reduce the person who drink and drive. To my knowledge, Mr. Brooks expressed his ideas and suggestions to prevent all this road rage , Drunk driving and speeding mainly because like other people, he is concerned with the road where he drives and concerned with other people as well. But one thing that I see though is that he wants to make the consequences a little more extreme than usual because maybe he feels the usual way is not working at all.
Road Rage Shooting |

Rage Shooting

If anyone saw the news report on TV last night about this, the state trooper interviewed for the tv news show said " this sort of thing can be expected with all these concealed handguns the state has allowed to be carried on state roads" . With cops that think like this, we are doomed. We need the truth told, if this was a CHL that committed this crime, throw the book at them, if it wasn't, then this trooper needs to apologize to a lot of lawful gun owners he insulted with his comment.
I do agree that we are doomed with cops thinking like this. First of all I do not know what CHL stands for. However, from the point of views I have observed from this person, I assume that CHL is somebody who is either part of the law enforcement or someone legal to carry weapons. The comments that was made by the trooper was very strong and can offend a lot of CHL people. The trooper should have been more careful on his comment because he is basically making a stereotype that all CHL or all people who are licensed to carry a weapon are a danger to our society which we all know are not true. This person clearly expresses the thoughts, feelings and opinions about the situation. From what I have observed, this person also disagrees with the trooper's comments on the CHL shooting.

How can we re-reduce
road-rage? I live in Southern California and the road-ragers own the roads. I
am asking that something
be done. The police are unwilling/unable to help stop the road-ragers. I am
asking that state and federal legislation be enacted that will make it
mandatory for electronic tracking and chips be installed in all vehicles so
that the driving history can be monitored. If it is shown the vehicle/driver
is/has been engaged in unsafe/hazardous driving that the vehicle be impounded
sand
the driver face criminal penalties.
Driving is not a
right, it is a privilege, and the license is not a license to threaten, attack,
abuse, and intimidate others using a vehicle as a weapon. no one is helping and
no agency is implementing any program to help stop road-ragers, that the public
is aware of. law enforcement is a joke in this area. I have tried contacting
officials and the media but everyone does not seem to care. I will help push
for legislation on the federal and state levels for these solutions.

Remove the dangerous drivers now!
San Diego
Clearly this person expresses his anger and frustration out of the people who are considered road ragers. I agree that driving is not a right but a privilege and that vehicles should not be used as a weapon to harm others bust its simply there to help us to bring us to where we want to go and back. From what I have observed in this person's email posting, he/she is being ignored by the city officials, media and the law enforcement people on the problem that he/she is trying to let them know of. This person suggests a solution that would, in my opinion be effective but would be costly for the government and for the people. I know where this person is coming from because I have experienced driving on the road where other people are careless and inconsiderate of others and just think that they own the road. Eventually, we can't do nothing if no one in our community will help us but I'm sure that solutions to prevent road rage will be in effect as soon as every one in the community is willing to help.
Reverse Road Rage Saga |

I am a European Living in the USA, and have noticed that this is the only place in the world where assholes speed up when you try to pass them. What is the matter with these people?
In Europe I drove a SAAB, and no one bothered me. In the USA, where I am just for a few years I drive an old rusty Chevy Cavalier, where the top speed is just about 90 mph on a good day with tailwind. Passing with this "rocket" is a challenge, and needs serious planning. People still won't let me pass without speeding up as you pass.
It's not the SAAB you drive, but it seems that people in the US hate it when you pass them. I live in Iowa now (Yeah, lucky me ;) ) but I've been in over 40 of the states here, and generalized the behaviour is seen all over.
Can any of you explain?
This person basically haven't been in these country for a long time as he describe it and does not know much about the roads here. From what I have noticed, this person is clearly experiencing the road rage that have been going on in every road in the US today as we speak. It is true what this person says that every time you pass by a driver they try to speed up just so they could not be passed through. I can see that he is not very happy with the situation he has been experiencing on the roads of US compare to the Road of wherever he came from. I think that only in the US, you could find problems of road rage in most places.

I am really curious and not trying to put you on defensive. You clearly sound like an intelligent and thoughtful person and may have answers that would help many of us make sense of why cyber affairs are proliferating.
Why can't you talk to
your wife? What do cyber relationships provide you? [ Katie ]
Ok, a man's point of view... I think you are all missing the point. The question is why is he having cyber affairs? What is missing from the relationship? Cutting off access to 900#'s, etc. doesn't solve the real problem.it merely masks it. In fact it most likely will force him to find other ways of getting his "fix".
I'm no shrink, but I do happen to have more than a passing interest in those
less desirable areas of the web. Do I have a problem? Sure..Am I missing
something in my marriage that I get from the web? Yep. I'm missing intimacy,
and excitement of trying new things...of exploring the realms of my sexuality.
Should I be doing it with my wife instead of a beige box? Damm right I should.
But when a relationship is at a point where you can't(or feel you can't) share
your most inimate thoughts and desires with your spouse you both have a
problem!!! I'm in counseling right now..hopefully I will find a way to break
free and truly reconnect with my wife....maybe they should try the same!!
First of all, this type of problems exist in some marriages that I personally know. Katie responded to an email posting by a male who thinks there is nothing wrong to access the net to find some erotic pleasures. On the other hand, Katie who responded to this email posting wonders why this male cannot talk to his wife about his problem. I can see from Katie's point of view that a couple should talk about their problems no matter what it is, in this case it is whether the wife can give her husband the pleasure he needs. I do agree with Katie that this man should talk to his wife which will be more beneficial in the future for him and for his wife. Having a cyber relationship can't help you in your marriage when it becomes rocky or worse. Cyber relationships are just ways to avoid facing the real problems. However, as we all know, no matter how hard you avoid a certain problem, it will still bother you one way or the other. The reason is because all of us humans have "karma."

Oh dear. My husband's sex addiction (that we only discovered too late) seriously escalated when we got a computer. Cyber sex, online pornography, and online relationships are definitely not a good move, and lead to real life affairs.
"Help" Is the first word that came to my mind when I read this email posting. I already have noticed the heavy influenced that the cyberspace had on her husband. This person clearly expresses her thoughts, feelings, and not to mention the preoccupation that she has for her husband's addiction to all the internet materials that had already influenced her husband which is affecting their marriage. The threat that the internet has is very real and can influence a lot of people to change the way they live their life and maybe get people into trouble especially the youths these days.
Drug Addiction |
Subject: Re: Your opinions on this...
Date: 12/07/1999
This argument doesn't work when you consider that many people just would not participate in such a program.
Certainly, but then we need a mechanism for legal distribution of their drugs, preferably in a controlled way, such that those who are not currently using a drug cannot start using it; those who are already using a drug can find a legal supply, but not enough that they could buy and then sell to others a significant amount.
First, if you make it freely available, any reason for people buying it up and selling it to others disappears. There's no such market for alcohol, for instance. Second, you're assuming that addiction is inherently terrible. It's not. Opiates in particular have no negative health effects except constipation. The negative effects of heroin use are SOLELY a result of the War on Drugs; thus, addiction is a red herring. For that matter, the "treatment" of choice for heroin addiction is methadone addiction.
Cigarettes have ghastly health effects and are more addictive than heroin, and not only is no prescription necessary to buy them, but they are freely available to almost anyone. I have rarely seen anyone attack cigarettes on the basis that they are so addictive, nor have I seen the kind of "moral" arguments about nicotine addiction that one encounters aplenty about opiate addiction. For that matter, no one appears on talk shows crying about their caffeine addiction or says you had better not let coffee be freely available because it can give people a habit. And as far as people starting up on opiates, what makes you think that if you have prescription heroin that people who've never been on it before won't want to go out and try it, which would mean buying it on the street? As long as there is a demand, there will be sales. No, proscribing a drug just does not work and does nothing to address the reasons why people want to use drugs in the first place.
This Person clearly expresses his thought about the positive effects of being addicted to heroin. Its true of what he says that as long as there's demands , there's always going to be sales. However, this person must bear in mind the effects of making heroin available to everybody. I know for a reason why the government did not make the availability of heroin as legal as the availability of caffeine and cigarette. The reason is because cigarette and caffeine is not as deadly as heroin. I have no idea as to what heroin is good at except its just another drug that people use to try to get away with their problems. But as I have mentioned before, no matter how hard a person tries to get away with their problems, they will still have to face it one day or another.
Youth and Violence Today |

Ok, just a question for your two cents. Do you believe that our youth today and the violence & tragedy are directly related to dysfunctional homes?
Do you believe the same is directly related to children being taken to day care?
Are our youth today mentally affected by mom and/or dad working?
Or could it be that an over-abundance of all of the above is truly the problem?
I mean, I was sent to daycare for part of a morning and I'll admit, I didn't like going because we had to help make breakfast, clean dishes, (you know, learn responsibility) and we had to fake sleeping for 1/2 hour (which now, I crave 1/2 cat nap!). I am very happy with my life, who I've become and what I learned as I was growing up and part of that was due to the interaction with other children outside of our household. It didn't mean my parents didn't love me--and certainly--if anything were to happen to me there, they would not have continued taking me there. And, btw, our family is very close and loving and there are no regrets with going to daycare!
I think we make mountains out of mole hills---a little goes a long way; too much is never good and attention to our youth when we are with them, I think, is the key. I think it's the missing key...
Your thought?
Youth and violence is a harsh reality and one of the most critical problem that our society face today. What this email posting states is rather interesting because it is very true that youths of today needs attention especially from their families and parents. I have to agree that attention to our youth is the missing key as this parson have stated because people in our society today especially parents are too busy with their job that they could not even afford to pay attention to their children's need. I like the way this person describes his experience in a daycare. I learned that youths today would be non violent if they learn to interact at a young age where they learn to be friendly to other people.
Drunk Driving |

DRUNK !!!!!

DUI is a victomless crime. Filling our jails with people who commit
victomless crimes is certainly not going to make any of our social problems go
away. Education and awareness are the only true answers.
BTW - before you further demonstrate your ignorance and reply with an emotional
outburst about all the alleged carnage on the highways: keep in mind that
the scope of this email is limited to the crime of "DUI". There are
already plenty of other laws on the books that a person breaks if they get
drunk and get into an accident, or kill somebody, or run over the
neighbors rose bushes, etc. My point here is that drinking and driving is
victomless up until the point you cross the line (pun intended)
and get into an accident. At that point we can just let the existing laws
handle the drunks.
ABOLISH THE ABOLISHMENTISTS - REPEAL THE DUI LAWS!!!
why in the fuck you have to go drive when you drink alcohol? i mean if one
glass of beer "doesnt effect you" whats the point of drinking it? if
your gonna drink..then make preparations to have transportation, there no need
for you to be driving, especially if you "think" you are able to
drive.
I have always been against drunk driving and I never really thought of it us a victimless offense against the law. Firdt of all, how can this person say it is victimless? Have this person seen all the casualty and the lives taken because of a drunk driving accident. I might have the wrong interpretation of what he/she means when this person describes drunk driving as victimless but all I can say that DUI laws should be imposed and the only suggestion that i have when a person is caught driving drunk is one, their license should be revoke and never give them the chance to get their license ever again in any part of this world and two, if a person killed another in an accident because they where driving drunk, I suggest that they should throw the book at them meaning they either should be imprisoned for life without the possibility of parole or they should imposed the death penalty on them.

I know that also did newsgroups as one of their assignments. I thought
both of them did an excellent job in doing their reports.

As always, doing this report or any other report is the best
suggestion that i could ever give. Always ask the instructor or one of
your fellow peers who already have taken one of Dr. James' class before if you
have any questions. No one have ever ignored me when I asked questions in
regards to the subject. Learn to get along with one another because your
peers and your instructor are the best hope you've got when it comes to helping
each other in regards to the subject matter.

Participating in a newsgroup is something that I have done for
the first time. At first, I thought it was going to be one of the
toughest assignment that we'll ever have for the course. But as I soon
found out, participating in a newsgroup is something that I or any other
individual could benefit from because newsgroups helps us to learn how other
people think in different topics of discussion and how they feel in certain
issues.
