Hey everyone, this is just M letting you know that MP3 World is open and ready for business! Feel Free to start posting news/questions/answers/blah blah blah... about mp3 and anything related to it. Oh yeah, and check out my free mp3s at [www.mp3.com/smear. ]

Response:
I found this discussion very interesting. For those who don't know what mp3
is, you better look through the website which is attached. MP3 is a file
format which stores audio files on a computer in such a way that the file size
is relatively small, but the song sounds near perfect. You can identify MP3
files because they will end in .mp3. Typically 1 MB is equal to one minute of
music or several minutes for spoken work/audiobooks. MP3 is simply a file
format. However, it can be used either legally or illegally. Using an MP3 is
legal if the song's copyright holder has granted permission to download and
play the song. Also, it is legal to make copies from CD for personal use.
However, it is illegal to encode MP3s from CD and trade them without
permission from the copyright holder. This is a new discussion and it includes
the standard of mp3. Where they can find specific music, etc... The
phenomenon I could find in this discussion is people are very helpful with
each other in this community. The idea of anonymity immediately came to my
mind. The people in the newsgroup generally don't know each other, but they
are willing to help each other.

A NEWSGROUP OF YOGA
Title: Re: Another newbie
Date: 1999/03/07
M,
Okay I admit it it happens to me regularly and i teach yoga. I've gone
for years practicing effortlessly and then have periods when I have to drag
myself to the mat. That's just life.
Finding a buddy to practice with can help. Making the practice short
and manageable for a while can also be a good choice. Classes, tapes, videos
all can be supportive.
The one thing that isn't useful is feeling guilty and beating yourself
up over the issue. That doesn't help and actually distracts from yoga.
When all else fails me I meditate on the nature of resistance and my
own resitance in particular. This leads me to frustration with sitting and
eventually I get up and practice.
Hi all! I think that there must be something magical about yoga because everyone I see that practices it are usually very beautiful people with a very noticable, peaceful, energy about them.
First I would like to say congratulations to those of you who practice on a
regular basis. I'm sure that your efforts toward a more peaceful exsistance
are felt not only by your bodies but by all of us. Next I seek motivation. I
have two books on yoga and I have been subscribing to Yoga Journal for about
two years now. The problem is like with just about everything else I can't
seem to motivate myself to practice. I know the benifits it offers and the
healing, but... If anyone else hd this same problem please offer some advise.
My latest excuse is because I live in a college dorm with a very obnoxius
roommate. Even though it's true I don't think that it should interfere with
my life.
Also, I was wondering which would be a better place to practice, here in the room or in the university gym. Here I would be concerned about interuptions from any one of the 6 guys living here. Thanks in advance for your help and bless you for making that light which normally shines very dull, shine so warmly. [ Mike ]
Response:
This newsgroup caught my sight because I want to know what people are talking
about with Yoga. I don't know about this kind of exercise deeply. I think it
is kind of like the Chinese's Taichi. This discussion talks about a person
have a great difficulty to learn Yoga himself. I think he is kind of shame to
practice it because most of the people nowadays don't have much experience
about Yoga. Some people even laugh at it. They just don't know it is a kind
of exercise to reduce tension. It just the person, Mike, so shy to pratice it
at home. Newsgroup gives the person a specific group of people which could
help him along. It's hard for a person to walk on the street and pick a
person which knows Yoga and gives him advices.

A NEWSGROUP OF SPORTS
Title: Lakers get the job done
Date: 1999/03/08
The lakers went in to utah and simply outplayed the jazz. They are certainly the better team. Even if the jazz have homecourt advantage against the lakers, it will not matter because the lakers know they can go in to the delta center and win. Some comments on the game:
1) Eddie Jones still needs to be traded. He looked horrible out there today. For those who didn't watch the game, he chose an area closer to the baseline for his "stand in one place" spot.
2) The jazz don't have anybody to defend bryant.
His outside jumper was obviously not there and he was still impressive. The
hornacek/russell/anderson on kobe matchup equals death for utah.
3) Campbell should play malone more than rodman. I know rambis doesn't have much for brains, but even he realized this and had campbell in against rodman late in the game.
4) The utah jazz took complaining to the next
level in this one. There was one instance in the first half when hornacek
simply dribbled the ball off his foot. Everyone knew it. Instead of just
picking the ball up and giving it to the ref, jeff had to have a conversation
with him. There was another situation in which hornacek flopped on a move made
by bryant. He wanted a charge called for a play where virtually no contact
occured. Hornacek has become the #1 complainer on the jazz, and thus
the #1 complainer in the league. What is annoying me the most about hornacek
is how he shoots every time the ball is whistled dead. Say an illegal defense
is called and hornacek has the ball. Hornacek should just give the ball to
the ref, but he always hoists up a shot, regardless of whether he was about to
shoot or not. Then a ref has to retrieve the ball before the game can start
again. I have seen other players do this, but not nearly as much as hornacek.
One thing that was nice about this game was the abscence of jerry sloan. It
was nice to see a game where neither coach was shown throwing their hands up
in the air every 10 seconds and smiling like a jackass, a la jerry sloan.
Speaking of Rambis, he seems to be not pissing
anyone off too much. The players don't have a problem with him, but they dont
respect him either. I was particularly amused when rambis pulled kobe off to
the sidelines and was trying to talk to him. Kobe acted like rambis wasn't
even in the building. That is the ultimate insult to a coach. He could have
cared less what rambis had to say, and he made it clear to a national audience
who was running the lakers- the stars, not the coach.
But as long as rambis doesn't upset the big boys, things should work out
fine. Rambis can be a good coach by not doing a whole lot of coaching. If the
lakers had wanted a real coach, they could have gotten one. They just wanted
to get rid of harris, so a dope like rambis will work out fine.
Kobe and shaq made a statement today- that they are not going to let utah win a postseason series against them again.

Response:
I'm absolutely a NBA fans. There are a lot of
discussions about NBA games. The people react differently in order to support
or reject to their teams. This is a discussion about a game which is played
on 03/08/99 between LA Lakers and Utah Jazz. I've also seen this game. The
reason I choose this message is that he has a very in depth look in the game.
I can't believe that he is so concentrate on every player on the court. I'm
for sure he is not a commentator, but for sure he is a big fan of NBA. He
even have some comments about how the teams administration operated. As an
audience I only watched the players played, I don't care what the
administration of a team will affect the players. But he is also concern
about it. He expressed what he felt about the game all in this message. I'm
impressed by that.

A NEWSGROUP OF NEWS AND POLITICS
Title: Re: Clinton Should Answer Broaddrick Rape Allegation
Date: 1999/02/25
Clinton should answer the allegation of rape made by Juanita Broaddrick.
No ... I think it's in his best interests to ignore her entirely. A big chunk of the public just isn't interested in entertaining ANY more sex scandals about BC. Whatever it is, they will think the GOP is behind it or has fabricated it entirely.
Personally, given the age of the case and the fact that she has changed her story over time ... well ....
Short of videotape showing him forcibly molesting some girl scouts, Clinton is now sex-scandal-proof.
If the GOP wants to "get" Clinton, they will have to find something entirely unrelated to sex - bribes, treason, theft, murder, abuse of power. Even then, it's kind of late for all this. Clinton is old news. The GOP should be quiet about Clinton so the public will forget their failed impeachment initiative. Efforts should be directed towards the FUTURE - AlGore and friends.
The GOP has developed a positive OBSESSION about getting BC. They had better drop it, right now, and get on with business.

Response:
I want to say this for a while already. The Americans
like to make fun of themselves. If Clinton is the president of China, I feel
very insulting. I find that the Americans are so materialistic, some of them
make fun of their president in order to make money. Don't they think it's so
insulting to have a president like that? I think people in other nations are
laughing at either the president and the US residents. If I were a US
resident and talked to a group of people all over the world, I think I won't
talk about that sensitive topic to them. I'll just kept slience because
Clinton is not only insulting himself and his family, but the whole country.
The message also spoke the truth. The people have already lost their interest
over the sex scandal about Clinton. I think they are now recognizing that a
president's job is to rule the country, they shouldn't bother their
president's private life.

Title: Re: New survey: boogers 'n' haints
Date: 1999/02/21
What kind of booger or haint (boogey-man or ghost, for you Northerners) does
your local legend claim wanders the dark fields near your home, waiting for
the careless homeschooler to walk across their path?
I don't know what sort wanders around here, but where I grew up (Yuma, AZ), there were two different hauntings. One was a beautiful Spanish lady who haunted the canal banks because her baby had drowned there. At girl's slumber parties we scared ourselves silly with the old tale that if you turned out the lights, lit a candle, looked in a mirror, and said "_______, I have your baby," she would show up. I've forgotten her name, but when we moved to California there was a similar story about Agnes, who had been in a car accident, picked up by a trucker while she was unconcious, taken to a hospital. While there, she awoke and asked for her baby. Nobody had seen a baby, she grew hysterical, and escaped from the hospital. Nobody ever found her or her baby, and the mirror thing was supposed to work the same way. It's better for me to stay far away from this stuff. [ Kanga ]
The highest form of bliss is living with a certain degree of folly.- Erasmus
Which may explain why we enjoy our seven children so much, particularly the
toddler right now.- [ Kanga ]
Response:
A group of folks have started trading tales about
regional "boogers 'n' haints" (known as boogey-men or ghosts in the North).
Don't join this discussion if you're easily spooked! The above discription
drew my attention to this discussion. I personally don't believe in ghosts.
But the person who wrote this story seemed to be a believer in this kind of
stuff. It's kind of like a legend in his living place, and he got to believe
it. I think people who believe in such kind of stuff is liked people having
psychological problems like illusion or hallucination. I think they shouldn't
take it too serious.

Sample ads:
Are you witty, big-hearted, and intelligent?
I'm seeking a nice tall chap to have fun with. I'd like to meet someone who is "comfortable in their own skin", who enjoys good food (and can probably cook), who is witty and intelligent and enjoys exercising their mind rather than their body! I'm a tall sensual brunette who loves cats, books, poetry (especially Louis MacNeice, Yeats and the Mersey Poets). I like James Stewart films.
I'm an odd mixture of extremely compassionate and occasionally unattractively selfish; confident and self-doubting; I like to laugh and I enjoy being around people who can be witty, have a social conscience, and who are warm. I hate dishonesty in myself and others.
I am told I am sexy and good-looking - sometimes I feel okay, and sometimes I think I look like (as my Polish friend says) "something the dog has spitten out". I'm looking for someone to enjoy the journey with in all ways.
Speaking of journeys, I love Cumbria, Suffolk, Spain and Italy. Loved Istanbul.. Got dysentary in Tunisia.
Response:
I think this kind of men seeking women, or women seeking
men are similar to the advertisement on the newspaper or magazines. The thing
that I could see in this newsgroup is that people from all around the world
can be communicated with each other with the use of internet. The
advertisement which were seen on the newspaper are usually localized. So the
people they are seeking are always based on the people within the country.
But with the use of internet, people can be communicated with each other
throughout the world. There are no fees in participating in newsgroup too.
They can wrote whatever they want to write there.

DOES INTEL MAKE A JUNIOR MOUSE? A ONE BUTTON
MOUSE DESIGNED FOR SMALL CHILDREN TO PLAY GAMES. MY GRAND-DAUGHTER IS THREE
YEARS OLD, AND LOVES TO PLAY GAMES. SHE HAS AN TERRIBLE TIME WITH THE FULL
SIZE MOUSE. IF YOU MAKE ONE, WHERE CAN I FIND IT? IF NOT, WHY NOT. SOUNDS
LIKE A GREAT PRODUCT TO ME. I'LL BUY ONE.
THANKS,

Response:
This is a new discussion and I think there aren't
anybody to reply to this guy yet. But the phenonmenon is that people are
using newsgroup as a media to demand and produce a new idea of technology.
The companies don't know what the market will be because nobody have ever
think about that kind of products before. Who knows people are using
computers everywhere nowadays? Companies may take the ideas and actually do
some products like that. The market is already there. Some people may have
needed that kind of hardware products for their young children. This kind of
discussion also reduces some companies from design idea of what products they
should have produced in the following few years. The newsgroup have just
provided a free information for them.

Title: Re: to bring or not to bring....
Date: 1999/03/07
You can go to just about any Target (Walmart, et
al) store and get a hair dryer that has a little switch on it to convert
voltage (110/220).....all this for less than $US10. No converter required.
Then when you get to Amsterdam (or wherever) you stroll to the nearest corner
store and buy an adaptor for $.25....or scam one from your hostal/hotel. And
you can actually use the dryer outside of Europe. Problem solved.
Response:
Anybody want to have an vacation during the spring
break? If you don't know what things you should bring during your trip,
newsgroup will help you getting some information. People from either living
in the country or went for a trip before can tell you what exactly you have to
bring. This message is about a person who wants to know if there are any
cheaper converter in Amsterdam cauz of the high cost in the US. More
discussion about car rentals are also discussed in the later messages. I
think people are now smarter to have a earlier preparation about their trip to
prevent nervous after they arrived to their vacation area.

Title: Re: World's Worst Drivers? (was: Ticket for backing up at red light
UL)
Date: 1999/02/19
These answers aren't even in the correct ballpark. The world's worst drivers are in Africa and Asia. IMHO the worst drivers in the first world are in Naples and Portugal, although in all honesty at least in Lisbon they stop for red lights. ö [Mason Barge ]

Response:
"They just don't know how to drive! Where are the
world's worst drivers? Massachusetts? Melbourne, maybe? Perhaps Philadelphia?
Listen in as drivers around the globe chime in with their votes." This quote
drove my interest in reading this discussion. Really neat and fun stuff to
read. Researcher can now made their hypothesis much easier by looking at
various newsgroup to design what their hypothesis is. In this discussion,
people are responding so excited and angry to what they have experienced. A
person vote for Spain and said tha, "Madrid. Only time I ever felt G-forces in
a cab." A person said that it's Malta, and India for sure because the drivers
keep in the middle, in both driving is on the left, but only when you feel
like it." I think they're not only show their anger, but also show how
dangerous and how scare they are.

Date: 1999/02/21
If you can pick up the following items (must be the whole lot), then they're yours for free. They are just collecting dust in my basement:
1
- IBM PS/2 VGA monitor 13" (working)
1 - IBM PS/2 Model 50 (386) (haven't turned on in 3 years, used to work with
monitor above)
1 - Compaq Portable III (luggable laptop "lunch box" type) Working??
1 - HP LaserJet IIp laser printer (not working, can be repaired?)
Response:
Anybody wants free stuff from the net might want to
check this out. Various newsgroups are giving out free stuff. Sometimes
people are just too lazy to get rid of unwanted things. These items may be
useful for others, so they used newsgroup as a media for people to get these
things. There are a lot of these kind of discussion that are giving out free
stuffs. Some of them are kind of promoting their own products, some of them
act as agents of the companies. I think it was pretty fun to check these kind
of things because may be there are something you might wanted at your

This is what we can find easily on the web. These are
sharewares. It's pretty easy to search through the web and some of them even
have full version programs to download. Sharewares often needs user to input
serial numbers to be members of it. Some of the websites give out these kind
of serial numbers for users so that they don't have to download the same
program in a short period over and over again.
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
This is the first time I have ever browsed newsgroups. What I have found were all kind of informations and they are suitable for all kind of people to join with. Any sort of problems, the discussion community are willing to help each other and the response are kind of fast. Most of the replies that I've saw on the newsgroup are with several days or even a couple hours. This explain that there is a high and fast circulation in the newsgroup. The people inside the newsgroup also act differently as I have observed. They are either having a desire to ask and learn, and some of them are really getting excited about what they've said. They wanted to expressed themselves to the public.
My suggestion to the following generations is always the same, don't wait till the last moment to do this report because you won't get enough time to do this. Despite browsing the newsgroup, I really used up 2 whole days to finish this report. So, my suggestion is to do it earlier. Also looking at different kinds of newsgroups also enlarge your communication capacity.
