Here are a few tips for you on taking this class... Chet and I started out very disorganized and we paid for it later. So first of all, if you are working with a partner, DESIGNATE who is going to do what, down to every little detail. Chet and I had a few mix-ups, and we often did the same material. That didn't make us very happy. But after a while, we decided it would be best if he brought his computer to my apartment, so we could actually see what each other was working on. This made it MUCH easier. Too bad Chet has a 486 computer, so it took like 5 minutes just to start Netscape. hehe.
We split the work where I did all the re-doing of the graphs, and all the scanning stuff. Chet did most of the rewriting of the tables. I am doing the bulk of the work, but that is because I am taking the class for more credits. Lucky for me that Chet is a good typer, for he had to do the real humbug stuff. I ended up doing the easier but time-consuming stuff. I was also responsible for making the 499 homepage and getting all the material on-line with working links.
Some things we regret was starting so late. We were dying in this other class we had, so we put off this 499 stuff until later. NOT A GOOD IDEA! We ended up working 24/7 for a while! Of course none of the work is extremely hard, but it is very time-cunsuming! Some of the material, it took over an hour to do just one page! And we had about 130 pages to do! Only about 10% of the work could we scan and use the OCR software. Everything else we had to re-write completely... Of course some of the complex graphs we scanned in the pictures, but for the most part, we were re-creating tables, and re-typing a lot of the material. So make sure you allot yourself ample time for you to finish it.
Also, don't drink more than 10 cups of coffee within an hour. When we were doing our work marathon, we drank lots of coffee. At one point I stayed up almost 62 hours straight. I was very jittery but then again, I got A LOT of work done. So maybe it wasn't such a bad thing afterall! =)
However, Chet and I had a lot of fun doing the work. We had many arguments over who would have to re-write certain pages (they were extremely hard) and fought over who could use my computer. Using Chet's slow computer was almost unbearable! So for you future 499 takers, be prepared for both good and bad times... Be crazy, for that is when you work your best! Have fun doing the work! And don't take too many breaks to play computer games like how we did!
