Introduction
This is my scanning project for Psychology
499 independent study with Dr. Leon James. I was given a total of 96 pages to scan
and put up on the internet. When I first got the assignment I figured it sounded
easy enough, just scan the pages and post them on the web. I couldn't have been more
wrong, the pages I were given were over 20 years old and some of them were faded quite
badly. Some pages were so faded that my scanner couldn't pick up the images.
This meant that I had to re-type many of the faded sections of the assignment. In
addition many pages included pictures which had to be converted to gif images and then
inserted in the page.
What I tried to do with this scanning assignment was to try and
use as much of the original material as possible by scanning the pages into gif images.
When this was not possible the pages were re-typed and hand drawn by myself.
For this reason you may notice some pages are direct scans and some are re-writes by
myself.
I learned many things doing this assignment. First, I don't
work well at independent study. I need deadlines or I procrastinate. Second, I
learned how to become much more capable of using the scanner. I bought my scanner
about a week before this class started so I was a total novice when it came to scanning.
Now, I feel I'm am a fairly competent scanner and through this assignment have
learned many scanning techniques.
