THIS IS MY GLOSSARY..CHECK IT OUT

1. Convoy: Automobiles traveling in groups with the intentions of not getting a ticket, or with the idea that the closer they travel the faster they will get to their destination.

2. Road safety: The theories and methods used to promote safer and self-disciplined driving.

3. Control x, i: The command used to insert a file.

4. Control d: The command to delete a character instead of messing up by using the backspce key like you would in wordperfect.

5. Control g: Incase you did hit the backspace key, or any other by mistake, you can use this command to cancel the previous one.

6. Control z: This command will stop emacs and return to the www$ prompt.

7. Nurturant drivers: Drivers who stop for everyone, and are in general always yielding to others. They are characterized by feelings of " love, warmth, and alturism."

8. Emergency care drivers: Drivers who will stop and help in the event of an emergency, especially for those they care a great deal for.

9. Accordian effect: This effect usually happens in convoys; it explains the quick separation and union of convoys through stop and go traffic.

10. The hog-a-lane: My own definition of the driver who intentionally speeds up when they see you single so you will not be in front of them. It is drivers like this which make others upset and agressive which causes accidents.

11. Control x, u: This is helpful for repairing unwanted edits.

12. Control K: This command will delete a whole line.

13. pine: This is a simple command to let me check and send e-mail.

14. logout: This command lets you exit whatever you are in if you are at the prompt.

15. Passwd: This is the command to allow you to change your password.

16.Surfing the internet: This is the term to describe reaming through all the information thats in various sections of the internet. You can look at all different types of homepages.

17.WebCrawler: This is one of the programs you use to do an information search on the internet. You simply type in the search words and it will pull up homepages that related itself to that word in some way. The neat thing is that it is international.

18.Tailgating: This is a nice term for all those anoying drivers who ride so close to ypur rear bumper that they actuall look like they are on your tailgate. This is one of the biggest reasons that people get into fender benders.

19.Netscape: This is a more visual way of looking at files than lynx. You can create and see all sorts of images and it is accessible through windows.

20.Good Driver: This is a hard term to define, but in general, it is someone who obeys most of the traffic laws on a regular basis, and posseses both agressive and defensive instincts which help them stay out of accidents.

21.Speeder: By the definitions discussed in class, reports in the generational curriculum papers, and what the general code is for the police, speeding consists of going more than approximately 10% to 15% over the speed limit.

22.Escape Q: This is the command that will justify your report so that you can read it in both emacs and lynx, or netscape.

23.Personality Makeover: This is when you look at all your driving habbits and procedures, and asses what you do that is good and bad. The next step would be to make a modification process for the habbits you feel are inhibitory to safe driving.

24.Unneccessary Lane Changes: This is when you weave in and out of traffic in an effort to stay in the fastest moving lane. Though lane changes might be necessary at certain times, these frequent changes actually slow traffic and promote accidents.

25.Driving Habbits: These include everything you do on a regular basis like speeding, signaling, convoying and tailgating. These habbits go in the personality makeover.

26.Unsafe Speeding: This is the kind of speeding that involves any or all of : Frequent lane changes, traffic, dangerous road conditions, a car that cannot handle the speed for the type of conditions.

27.Safe Speeding: This includes all of the opposites of the conditions of unsafe speeding.

28.Awareness: Having knowledge of the traffic laws is not enough, you must know who is around you at all times, look for escpe routes, and know the conditions of the road. You cannot zone out and drive.

29.Head Smart: In terms of traffic psychology, this means knowing when to drive and when not to. For example, do not drink and drive, and do not drive if you are emotionally unstable. Take time out and meditate, or something...just relax before driving.

30.Tickets and Accidents: These are the things which will turn your driving dream into a nightmare. They can turn you into a permanent pedestrian, put you into debt, or take the life of someone. Avoid these, stay safe, and enjoy the road....SEE YA!!!!!
