Carol N. Ohta's Travel Through
Generation One and Generation Two
My Travel Through G1 and G2

Introduction:
I can't believe how much information computers can provide now. I tried to
avoid this technology for years and to be honest, I didn't imagine that
the computers would be so highly used and full of information. I'm so
surprised and impressed on how far computers have advanced since I was in
elementary school. Being that I'm now exploring the computer world that
I so much wanted the avoid in my life, I've noticed that I'm very
interested in looking for pictures, lines, and bars to decorate my files
so they don't look plain and boring for my eyes.
Report contains:
In this report I will tell you how my travels
through generation one and two in Traffic Psychology on the Internet
went. If
you need or want a definition on what exactly is traffic psychology please
visit this site.
People I visited
The people I visited from generation one is Caroline
Balatico, Diane Beauchemin, Kendall Matsuyoshi, Michelle Ota, and Terri
Slaughter. From generation two I visited
Alan Furukawa, Braden Kato, Curtis Nakao, and my friends Jason Nakasato and
Rochelle Tactacan. Below are their homepages and my finds through each
homepage.
Generation one Links:
- Caroline
Balatico's Homepage. The first thing I noticed that stuck out the
most was her e-mail address. I think she should have provided icons,
images, and pictures to make her homepage more exciting to view. I also
think she should've included annotations to her links so anyone visiting
her homepage would know what is contained in each file.
- Diane
Beauchemin's
Homepage. Her homepage isn't exciting but her colorful line image
brightens up her page.
- Kendall
Matsuyoshi's Index page of Lab reports. I like the way he made links
to his report. It made it easy for me to view the topics that were
interesting to me by using his anchor links within his files.
- Michelle
Ota's Homepage. I laughed when I saw the picture of Opus above her
e-mail address. I think she can really improve her homepage with a
background. I think any background will do with her red icons and line.
- Terri
Slaughter's Homepage. Her homepage just reminded me of Kendall
Matsuyoshi's Index Page. The only difference is that she doesn't have
any links to for anchors within her reports. I think she should also
contain some kind of annotation so people will know what to find in her
files.
Generation two Links:
- Alan
Furukawa's
Homepage. If you go to his homepage made sure you're wearing some
dark glasses... Just kidding, it's just a little bright.
However, I like his pictures and lines. His simlie face is great.
- Braden
Kato's Homepage. He
wrote on the top that one shouldn't expect much out of his homepage.
He's right but his Snoopy character is something to see because that
about the only picture you will find there.
- Curtis
Nakao's Homepage. His
homepage makes you feel like your in space because there are stars on a
black background. I like his Bruce Lee picture because it reminded me of
the films acted by Bruce Lee himself. I kind of miss those films... I
think he too should have
used some annotations to make it easier for another viewer to find topics
they are interested in viewing instead of viewing the whole file.
- Jason
Nakasato's Homepage. What a surprise I found that Jason was in
generation two and I decided to view his site so I could tell him that I
visited him. Well, when I told him I visited there he asked me if I
liked it and told me he was proud of his sites on the Internet. I must
say his little devils do remind me of him. I liked his organization of
his files. But I think annotation should've been used. Jason, just
something you should think about.
- Rochelle
Tactacan's Homepage. Hey it's Rochelle; well, her homepage it's much
to see but what I found was a link to my classmates driving story
confessions. I wasn't expecting to find that there. Check it out if you
would like to read my classmates confessions.
Evaluation of Homepages
The homepages in generation one weren't as interesting as the
homepages of generation two because they really didn't have any backgrounds,
icons, and lines to decorate there files. Perhaps that's why in
generation three, we need to include annotation to every file and
report. I think annotations are important and useful but they are a
hastle. Especially when you don't know what to write as an annotation.
Backgrounds
I feel that having pictures
and icons are important because that's what catches peoples attention.
That's the first thing I noticed and went searching for backgrounds and
anything to decorate my files. I got a little tip to go to Lori
Morita's
Topical Index because she has a link to the backgrounds. So I did and
found that she had a link to Terry
Gould's Graphics it's under EVERYBODY'S GOT A BACKGROUND. I copied
the items I wanted into my directory so my files wouldn't take so
long to load. When I was done with that I went to look around through
generation one and two.
GENERATION
ONE
Caroline Balatico-rushing
I started with Caroline Balatico's file on rushing
around. I do admit that I'm one of those people who walk fast and
hate it when
others cut me off and start walking slow. To seek my revenge I would
just walk faster to bypass them and cut them off like they did to me.
You bet I
even start talking to myself as to how irritating and stupid people can
be.
Caroline mentioned that even though we are on tight schedules and rush
around frequently we should take our time getting from place to place
because it will prevent us from unwanted accidents and speeding
violations. I think she is right in a way because when I tell my cousin
who walks faster than me to slow down because people around her are
talking about the way she walks. They said she should learn how to slow
down before she hurts someone. I thought to myself that they were dumb,
inconsiderate, and rude but actually they were right because soon after
that my cousin collided into another person who didn't see her coming.
In addition, my mother is always telling me to slow down in my walking
but I tell her why should I? She'll usually start getting upset at me. I
do think that if I do slow down and take my time I can see around me and
start saying Hi to all my friends. Basically so they don't come up to me
and say that I have a problem and a half. Besides them telling me that I
need to slow down my walking stride so I can see the world. Like someone
told me, why rush around when you can see the world around you without
pasting it by.
I'm always trying to stop rushing around but I'm always finding myself
rushing around and getting to my destination with a lot of time to spare.
I don't know, I have a hard time breaking my habit of rushing from place
to place. I even find myself racing to class because I lost track of time
and need to get to my destination with only minutes to spare. I also find
that I rush from time to time to my destinations because I feel guilty
when I reach my destination late, even if I'm one minute late.
One thing that I think Caroline didn't take into account is that when
people are in a rush they don't stop to realize that they are going to get
into an accident or something. And there are times where unwanted
accidents occur even though one is very careful and cautious because other
drivers around them are in a rush. Hey, before I leave this subject, I
found another site where you can find other possible reasons why people
rush, Terri Slaughter's report.
Diane Beauchemin-Internet
When I first started on the Internet I felt I was a total wreck
because I didn't know anything about the Internet and was overwhelm when I
had to do this report because I have other classes to focus on but I
thought I'd put my full attention on this class because I didn't know
anything about computers. A report that Diane
wrote was quite interesting because I have the same feelings. Like
Diane I felt good about myself in Dr. James class after I got the e-mail
down. Since then the one thing that keeps me going in this class is my
classmates. I would like to leave you with Diane's thought about
suffering from Freudian Computer Program Envy because I think I'm also
suffering from that.
Kendall
Matsuyoshi-Accordion Effect
I feel that the Accordion Effect can happen in traffic as well as in this
class. At the beginning of the course we had two months to finish our
reports and files and had a lot of space between us unto the due date.
Somehow, I wonder where all that time went because March 11 is coming fast
and my space is becoming very small and I feel that even though I only got
this far in this course that thanks isn't good enough because my files and
reports are still incomplete and that will affect my grade. Everything is
compressing into a short time left until the due date. Once I'm done with
these reports and files, I'll feel relieved until the next set of files
and reports are due. You see, everytime you think things are over,
another set of things occur. Soon you find that the space you once had is
gone or compressing you once again.
Kendall Matsuyoshi also mentioned in his article that in traffic if
someone cuts in front of you during traffic and thanks you, you should say
thank you back and not get mad or upset. I disagree, it isn't worth it to
me to say thanks to someone who cut me off because they affected me life.
Meaning they could have caused an accident that can affect the rest of my
life because they are cutting in front with very little space for them to
fit and the only thing they have to say or do is thank me. Now I don't
think that thank you is appropriate, I think sorry is a better word; but
then again, even that wouldn't stop me from saying a few things off my
mind to that driver. I'm certainly not going to say thank you for
injurying me if those injuries will be with me for the rest of my life.
Michelle Ota, Need A Break
I found a funny section in Michelle
Ota's file on Entertainment. I went there to see what I'd find and I
visited the Latest Useless Site and clicked onto the pets. I read Casey
the dog and it was funny and enjoyable to read. In order to survive the
Internet and not go insane, one needs to take a break and laugh a little.
You bet, I think humor is very important when your depressed, pressured,
and stressed. Hey, take a break from your life and visit this Latest Useless
Site and have fun.
Michelle Ota-Change Personality
I think my mother should read Michelle's Change Personality because she does the same thing as
Michelle and she's a passive person too. Even though she isn't too
passive when it comes to me. I really don't like riding with my mother
when someone cuts her off because she'll start yelling and swearing out
the window. Better yet, when there's a pedestrian crossing the street to
slow when they have the right away because they have the walk signal, my
mother will start getting annoyed and start saying "hurry up," "you
shouldn't be walking if you walk that slow," or "take off whatever that's
preventing you from walking faster."
I tell her to listen to herself because when she's a pedestrian and
cars want to run her off the road she starts yelling at them to learn how
to wait because the sign says to walk not don't walk. I can be joking but
she takes me seriously and starts to get mad at me. I start to laugh to
myself because I know the message got through to her. I thinks it's weird
that anyone and anything can change your personality and outlook of life
by the things we do everyday. I know I have a lot of thing to change
about my personality but I know I've come a long way since my childhood
days. It's a hard struggle to fix something you know you have to change
in our life. I can't even begin to imagine what I need to change in my
life to drive and to have the courage to get my license again.
Terri Slaughter-Four Rules
The last person I visited in generation one was Terri Slaughter. Her
report was on Four
Rules (Above Male Dominance) in aiding sidewalk frustration. I think
I need to listen to this article because I do the total opposite from what
Terri mentions in her article. For example, like I mentioned above that
when someone cuts me off I start to say things to myself. Terri suggests
to start to do positive self talk, continue to be polite, and keep a
friendly attitude towards other pedestrians at all times. Is she
serious?
Well it wouldn't hurt to try it out, don't you think? Hey, at least
it's a start!
Overall view of generation one
I think that generation one has too long of reports and files. To
begin with the computer always say that the files are too big to view the
sources after you sit at the computer waiting patiently and anxiously for
them. I still say that generation one files are boring to look at but
some of the contents in there files are interesting and humorous at
times. I do hope that generation two is more interesting because I know
some people in there.

GENERATION
TWO
Alan Furukawa-Plan
The first person I visited in generation two was Alan Furukawa. I
decided to look at Alan's
plan because I
need to make a makeover plan for myself. I agree that to make a plan it
shouldn't be something out of my reach or goal. It should be something
that is reachable and attainable to succeed in. Alan mentioned that a
plan should be a gradual process and if you need to take baby steps than
take the baby steps to get to the bigger obstacle or challenge. Kind of
like the movie "What About Bob?."
Anyway, Alan decided to work on his aggressiveness. I'm still
undecided on what my plan should be because I have a lot of baby steps to
take but where exactly in those baby steps do I want to challenge myself
to?
I think aggression is one of the top ten items that people need to
work on because everyone has to deal with aggression in everyday life on
the road. Since I don't drive it doesn't mean I don't get aggressive when
I'm a pedtestrian or passenger. I tend to find myself talking down about
a driver who is either driving to slow, cut in front of people, or
speed.
Braden Kato-Aggression
When I read Braden
Kato's
article about when he was young he was very aggressive. I learned
that I need to ignore the drivers around me if they speed pass me because
safety comes first. I wish I knew that years ago when I decided to walk
away from getting my license. You see, when I tried for my license I was
so sacred and afraid that I would screwed up that I thought about the
other drivers around me and I used speed during my road test. As you know
that's failure. I didn't go back to try for my license again and till
this day I still haven't. I thought I'd take Traffic Psychology to help
get over my fears and stuff. I am learning through this class that it
doesn't matter how others are driving, what matters is how you drive and
to be aware of the situations around you.
Curtis Nakao-Last Will
I think everyone taking Psychology #459 and #409 should go to Curtis's
Last Will and
Testament because it contains information that will help you out. I
like the fact that he said don't feel intimidated in this class because
I'm feeling it right now. The thing is, how do you stop feeling
intimidated in this class? I figured that keeping up with everything will
help me from feeling intimidated. I was definitely wrong; very much so, I
think the only time I don't feel intimidated from this class is when I
talk to my classmates and read humorous entertainment and files.
Jason Nakasato-Pedrestrian
Traffic
Well, well, well I reached two people that I know from other
Psychology courses; Oh no its Jason and Rochelle. I'll talk about Jason
first, he won't mind a bit I hope. Take a look at his report1.html
under
Pedestrian Traffic: It's Significance to Traffic Psychology. When I read
this I started to laugh because at times I really don't care what others
think of me when I rush pass them. Most of the time I don't say Hi to
people I know even though I'm eye to eye with them. I often get people I
know telling me I have a problem because I didn't say Hi to them when I
saw them. It's not like I'm ignoring them but I don't see them even if I
see them face to face because I'm preoccupied with my thoughts and
thinking. I really need to work on that because I didn't do that before,
but I'm finding that I do that now. I'll need to put this into my plan
because I really need to stop doing this before I lose my friends and if
that happens, I'll lose my sanity.
Rochelle
Tactacan-Solutions in Swearing
Rochelle wrote about
Solutions in Swearing. I can relate because I need to watch my mouth
when I'm a passenger, pedestrian, and a student. I agree that our manners
tell a great deal about the kind of person we are. Not to mention we
don't look to nice to other people when we do swear. I also have a habit
of swearing when I'm mad at pedestrians that walk and drivers that drive
too slow or too fast.
Overview of Generation Two
I enjoyed there reports because they were humorous. I liked there
style and appearances in there reports. I think that generation two
homepages are better than generation one because they used pictures to
decorate their pages. Only Rochelle's Homepage was plain. I even like
the fact that I can view their sources without any problems of their files
being to big to open.
Thanks G1 and G2
First I'd like to Thank generation one and two for making our
generation benefit from the reports and files that they created. I think
without there reports and files I would have dropped this class because
people in generation one and two had similar problems like me when they
started making and creating there files and reports. I really didn't care
about generation one files due to no backgrounds, lines, and icons and now
that I thought about it, I think they didn't have places where they could
collect icons, pictures, and lines to copy and paste. They were probably
more focused on collecting information and reporting on there findings. I
think being in generation three that we're going to be expected to move
faster in creating our documents. I don't really know if I can pull all
the expectations required for this class because I have so much limits on
this computer technology today. I just hope that I will try my best and
put in the best of my ability in this course and survive through it all.

Anticipate my Contributions
in G3
Since this is a Traffic Psychology Course, I thought I'd put together
what I think this course is all about. I think that we as society need
to look at our behaviors on the road, sidewalk, school, and home because
these are the places that are most likely to cause us the most difficulty
in controlling our rage, anger, frustration, stress, and etc. I thought
I'd take this course to understand my behaviors as to why I'm afraid to
attempt my license again and to improve me in my driving technique so I'm
no longer scared to drive.
Well, what I found that was true was when Dr. James told my
class that our behaviors are a reaction to what we are feeling towards the
other person that we are mad or upset at. Being mad at another driver
only makes us more mad and we start to do crazy things, so we need to look
at things in a different matter. We need to thank those who cut us off
and pass us by so we look at things more positive than negative. I came
to realize that we first need to work on our affective, cognitive, and
sensorimotor in order to achieve a higher persona or character. By
working on our affective, cognitive, and sensorimotor we will work on our
feelings to change our thoughts to have a positive attitude and behavior.
Conclusion
Through my travels in generation one and two I noticed that
generation two was a step foward from generation two. I just have a
feeling that my generation needs to improve where generation one and two
need inprovements on. I only pray that my classmates and I can pull it
all off and survive on the Internet.
