report2.htmlredibly much within these last couple of months, it is absolutely astounding. And I'm so glad that I stuck to it because now I have something to really be proud of (remember this, future generations!). Managing six html files over the Internet is definitely one of the hardest assignments I have encountered in college, not because it is difficult to do, but because it is so time consuming, so tedious, and so brutal on your butt, neck, and back. We cyberpsychology students should be given a bonus for completing our files: a full body massage.

How true this class is very draining. In the end it is worth it because you walk away with something. You leave with new knowledge and your creation is forever.

A Frustrating BeginningThe assignments this week shouldn't have been so difficult. After all, I did take Dr. James' TrafficPsychology class last semester. Funny, I don't remember learning all the UNIX commands. This must be something new.

No wonder Ms.Tanaka's files look so smooth.

I have really enjoyed myeducation here but always felt a deficit in my computer skills. I always avoided using them because of fear and intimidation. Itook this class because I needed a writing Intensive class to graduate. I did not even know it involved computers because if Iknew I probably would have dropped out. I now have realized that God set this whole thing up so I could overcome andconquer my fears. After the first few days of class, I realized that this was going to take my complete effort and time, so Idecided to quit my job. I feel that my education is more important than money. I then began to do the assignments of reading

Dalybeth has her priorities straight. However, I would bet money that even after she quit her job she didn't have much free time. That is life with Cyber-Psychology. C'est la vie.

My major is in psychology and I still have not decided if I will continue my furthereducation because of the tuition increases and stuff. I enjoy playing all kinds of sports like basketball, golfing, surfing, football, and bowling. And I hate to lose but I do love to eat and sleep. Well, I hope you have fun checking out my reports!

Anthony forgot to make the right kind of links. You have to make them like this, ../../../ or else you will lose your reports. Check out his page and see what I mean.

Many times I just have to stop and take a breather when I have been on the Internet too long or if I feel like I am gettingfrustrated. I find that it makes a big difference.

These are just a few tiny words of wisdom. Take a deep breath. Maybe even take a break. Your work will benefit in the long run.

This report period began with an innocent trip to the Computer Learning and Instruction Center (CLIC) in Sinclair Library on26 September at 4:45PM to check my e-mail for the day. The intent was to spend fifteen or twenty minutes checking e-mailthen go home to dinner and homework. AT 7:30 PM, I left the library and called my wife and told her not to call the policethat I was all right but had been sucked into cyberspace.

My how time flies on the net. These last weeks I have been at the lab for an avrage of eight hours at a time. My boyfriend probably thinks I am having an affair. He has been so supportive though. He makes dinner for me anticipating my butt dragging through the door. I wouldn't of done as well without him. Thanks Damian.

Managing my time better.- The main plans here are to plan ahead and to be more aware of the time in general. This plan is probably going to be the hardest one to keep up with. I tend to be quite lazy whenever I can get away with it I'mgoing to work extra hard on this one.--Reasons for change.I have this really bad habit of being just in time or a just a little late. Very rarely do I ever get to my intended destination in areasonable amount of time. I usually wait until the very last minute and then rush over. This kind of thing is okay if yourdestination is home with no other plans but if it's going to work or, god forbid, a date. Well, you get the picture.

Curtis knows it's important to be on time. Try to plan ahead so you can avoid such embarrassment. I don't think Dr. James likes it when people are late to class.

I guess when I really thought about it, the reason why I wasn't getting the grasp of things is becauseI didn't know what things were. I knew that I could learn them. I just felt defeated because it wasn't as easy as I would have wanted it to be. I knew this was a writing intensive class but so much time has to gointo it. For me, in order to get used to the idea of working on the Internet, I needed to be comfortablewith the fact that it would take me time to get used to. It's not like the high school courses I was used toin which I could cram everything in and finish it the night before. No way! This takes a lot of time, patience, and perseverance..... a lot of time, patience, and perseverance!!!

Michelle is aware that you can't skimp with a internet class. This is your creation. It took more than one day to build Rome. Even God needed seven days for his creation. So considering the fact that you don't have a Roman army and you're not God, maybe you should allow some time for this pup.

To stay awake I've been having lots of coffee and nothing else. I have the feeling that I'm addicted...all for this class. It's a totally mind-waking sensation when taken on an empty stomach. Add a shot of Netscape frustration...Let's just say your mind is wideawake but your hands are awfully slow (like I am now) because of fatigue.

Try not to abuse your body too much. Feeling stressed, take a catnap. Sleeping is your body's natural way of sorting out all your demons. When you get up you will be refreshed and clear headed. I don't want to be a Nag, but you don't want to get sick? Do you? That would be a major setback. By the way coffee is my friend too.

(c)What are My views on learning about the internet in a cybercommunity?

This is sort of cheesy but the first thing that comes to my mind, in response to this question is T.E.A.M. I didn't come up with this anecdote but I am using it anyway.(Together Everyone Achieves More). This is the primary benefit to working together as a class. Working as a group we can jump the technohurdles of the net, higher and faster, collectively. Perhaps one person is specifically good at one type of procedure but not so good at something else. That is perfectly all right because there are other people in your class with strong points varying from your own. In contrast the largest negative point to this is that this environment does not seem to allow for much originality, yet. You know that old saying Monkey see, Monkey do. Well hold on to your hats kids, there are legions of that on the internet. I can pretty much guarantee you plenty of copying. In fact nothing on the Internet is private. You should just go in to it knowing that and assimilate as you see fit. So what has been done about plagerism, privacy and any other evils. Not a whole lot at this time. The Internet is pretty much censorship free. Although I know of at least two times where the feds got involved and shook things up. I can't even tell you what happened for fear of being "Red Flagged" myself. At this point though, with the exception of death threats to high government officials and kiddie pornograpy, pretty much everything on this medium is fair game. So before you go online just remember there is no real privacy or ownership on the internet. The silver lining, to your pouty grey clouds, is something that my fourth grade art teacher used to say. To have your work copied is the highest form of flattery. It is a compliment to a good job. Whatever.

(d)Here is some advice for you newcomers.

First off I am not exactly Ann Landers. If I was I would not even be on the web. (Ann seems to think the internet is the root of all evils.) Anyhoo, I will give you some token advice. Take the best and leave the rest. In the honor of the great David Letterman my column will take the form of a Top five list. Top five instead of ten because it will probably be only half as entertaining as Dave's. But thats okay.

#5 A word about Dr.James.

Don't be late to class it is rude. Also, as one boy in class learned the hard way, falling asleep in class is very, very, bad. Interact in class when the designated time appears. "For God's sake Jim he is a Psychology teacher not a Dentist." So feel free to give input to discussion times. There will be no pulling of teeth. Another little hint be honest. Dr James, not only has a Doctorate in Psychology but he is psychic as well. Have fun, you are about to learn a bundle and Dr. James can help you make sense of it all. He has been there already. Neat Dr. James fact. He is originally from Translvania. That is one of the reasons why you can't pin the accent. The other is that he speaks thirteen different languages. Like I said he has been there.

#4 When you take this class allow your self ample time.

I really mean it this class is very time consuming. It may not be a bad idea to mark out all your tests and projects, for all your classes so you can actually see when you will be able to do your HTML work. If you don't make time you just may suffer a miserable defeat. Just keep the faith.

#3 If you want to fly with the eagles don't hang with the dumb clucks.

Does this seem a little harsh. Well it is and I recommend it, at least until you get a good feel for what is going on. C'est la vie. Although as Ann Rice wrote in "Servant of the Bones", "You should always be kind to those that are less fortunate than yourself." I believe this to be true. For two reasons, One because it is what separates humans from other lower animals. The other reason is because how you interact with others always comes back to you . Full circle in your face.

#2 Newsflash read the assigned texts.

This could be oh so very helpful. Most of your questions are covered right there. Fortunately you will be provided with a better more updated text than I was. Dr. James has informed us that there are many more HTML texts available now. This will allow a wider span for creativity. Really, read your textbooks. Stand on the shoulders of the great ones. It would be ever so tedious and time consuming to come up with all this information, all by your lonesome.

#1 Mastering Technology.

Okay this is obviously frustrating. Do you think that when babies are born, they know that someday they will walk or maybe even fly? Perhaps they do, but they probably don't. My point is this. In your early stages of net development, you too are like a baby. Except you do know for certain that with time, practice and preserverance, you will succeed and possibly achieve past your own expectations. So what if you can barely hold your head up now. The information that you have from the get-go of this class should keep you inspired. Then after the frustration will come, pride, euphoria, sucess of mastering the body and seeing a product that you made, quite possibly, lasting forever. That is more than we can say for our own children. Trust me this can happen for you. I have been told that this metamorphosis happens to about 98% of us. It will happen for you unless you are the 2% that drops. I seriously doubt it though. After all you show some sort of commitment if you read through all of this.

One additional thought.

This is very important. You need to get comfortable before you begin your Html work. Adjust your seat to support your back. This way you won't have to endure the severe musclecramping that I was plagued with. If you are using the Porteus 635 lab you have alot of options for adjusting your chair. It makes a really big difference. Another really helpful hint is for your eyes. I got this advice from Dr. Pearl directly from my informative and entertaining little, television. He says to save yourself a lot of problems with your vision all you have to do is dim your monitor. I tried this because I like seeing 20/20. After the first time I tried it, I discovered an additonal benefit. I noticed that my headaches became extinct. This eliminated my biggest computer gripe which was the physical pain that I received from long hours working in the lab. These seem like really simple things to do but they have extended the maximum time I can stand working in the lab and also enhanced the quality of my work. If you follow this simple regimen before you start they should work well for you too.
